Actual Rave.

rave Actual Rave.

Everyone’s talking new rave this & new rave that. Can’t help but be reminded of old rave, or as I like to call it actual rave. I partook in my fair share of parties & even had a short term career in the field of street pharmacy, which ended up with a brief stay in the big house. I have since reformed my ways, got rid of anything I owned that glowed in the daylight & stayed as far away from dark, damp warehouses as possible. However I still kept all my old vinyl, & every now & then I take a trip (ha, trip) down ‘what I can remember’ lane. Here’s a few cuts that were in every dj’s arsenal back in the day.

(these are vinyl rips, the needles are pristine, but some of the vinyl isn’t. If you hear some cracks & pops. My bad.)

Joshua Ryan – Pistolwhip (a.k.a Fragrant #11) (Download)
Josh doesn’t shy away from laser noises in this cut. The track is long, but the break is the shit.

Bassdropper – Lovin’ You (Land of Oz #9) (Download)
Appropriate name for an artist who does just that all over this track. Drops bass.

Prezioso – Raise Your Power (TEC T) (Download)
Remember the Mortal Kombat soundtrack? This shoulda been on there.

As with most old dance records you have a few option as to where you can get them, old collectors, dig through crates for hours or spend a little dough on shipping & get them shipped to you from the source of dance music; Europe. Best sites to obtain records like this: HTFR, Juno, Satellite, Humpty & Dance Records. If those links fail you hit up ebay.

So, in your opinions which is a better musical movement, old rave or new rave, or no rave? Let’s discuss.

pistol whip is not euro trash rave like launch and sandstorm the b-side on that record is also really cool...almost the entire Fragrant catalog is really good though.

    lol @ that

Pistol whip was for bastards that missed the true glory of the rave scene. You may as well post DJ Jean's the Launch or Darude's Sand Storm. If you want glory check out Steve Morley's Reincarnations Disco Droids Interspace, or Baby Doc's Back to Love. I would kill for each and any of these tracks on vinyl.
  • I would take actual rave over new-rave in a heartbeat. Though, I'd take a bunch new-rave vinyl back with me and not tell anyone.

new rave is cynically driven revivalism. not that there's anything wrong with nostalgia (said the dude in the retro 80s band). but at least old rave is actually rave *music*!
  • heh. :D

oh man, i'd have to enlist my friend david if we were gonna do a rave weekly. that fool listens to music like it's still 1997. he's like Crystal Castles who?

& DUDE! i saw just your post! whhhhhhuuut?! Craziness! Creepin' on a come up!

p.s. the art for your posts & just you blog layout in general is dope. you're about to take over the blogoshpere! let me get an image of the logo so i can throw it in the sidebar!
