New Wave Tuesday: Lucrate Milk

Masto & Laulm, Two ex-milk delivery boys started Lucrate Milk (short for lucrative milk) in 1979 & were later joined by two other mates. With a penchant for the absurd & anything morbid the band went about making music with nihilism & careless.

Interest in expressionism & the dadaism combined with the members limited capabilities produced a sound that hasn’t been duplicated since. The use of sax immediately brings to mind the X-ray Spex. And Nina’s vocals aren’t to far off from Poly Styrene’s but they are a tad closer to Slits lead singer Ari Up. The band eventually disbanded in February of 1984. Only 2 EP’s and a split album with MKB Fraction Provisional were ever officially released.
