Funkstorung

I was doing some spring cleaning the other day & ended up digging through the crates (a.k.a. a box of loose cd’s that I keep in the closet) and stumbled upon Funkstorung’s ‘Additional Productions’ from 1999. Funksturong was a duo of producers sometimes described as the ‘German Autechre’ & were among the upper echelon of IDM acts.

Missingtoof reader Trouc brought up the remix of Wu-tang’s ‘Reunited’ in the Bird Peterson - ‘Ain’t Nothin’ to Fuck with‘ post comments & I’ve had a hankering to re-hear the song ever since. Was finally able to satisfy my musical thirst. The Bjork remix is a beautiful glitched up piece of audio imagery.

Partake.

MP3: Bjork - All Is Full Of Love (In Love With Funkstörung Remix)

Funksturong broke up in 2006 due to musical, personal & practical differences. The whole ‘Additional Productions’ cd is filled with other outstanding remixes. Their final CD ‘Appendix’ is a must have as well. You know where to go Funkstorung.

I love Funkstorung but wasn’t happy with the waaaay too hip-hop direction they took towards the end.

That Bjork remix is a total masterpiece, I always wished they’d work together more.

They also did a Prince one they only played live, it was fantastic!

You know another IDM group that took on a way more hip hop (& by hip hop, i mean, r & b) direction? Telefon Tel Aviv. kinda put me off at first, but i’m diggin it now.

never got teh chance to see them live. LUCKY!

I Didn’t mind the ‘hip hop’ direction they took as hip hop or hip hop rap music was a prominent influence with Michael Fakesch and Chris De Luca- but i think this was more Chris’s input as this is apparent when you listen to “Deadly Wiz The Disko” his solo work with Peabird. Nevertheless, everything from Post Art to Vice Versa (well about 40 percent of Vice Versa) they have put out high level sound design savvy and beat heavy crunch Arm Chair Music. They’ve been a part of classic Arm-Chair Music, when everything from said genre was top-notch (1995-2001), I think one of the greatest projects they had ever been a part of was the “MASK” 100-500 series with their Musik Aus Strom label in connection with Skam Records, very rare, you can’t find those releases any where other than just P2P download ish. But defininately worth getting. Any who my only complaint about Funkstorung and the direction they took toward their expiration, is that they pushed this peculiar (not an a good way) R&B with that guy that tried to sound like a male Bjork or something, i think his name was Enik, i dunno it was awful i totally wasnt feeling it.

btw: I seen them too in SF back in 2003. They did that Prince track as well, man they had everyone dancing- well atleast everyone near the front. they signed my little doodle i drew during their performance, very nice guys, they didn’t want to ruin the doodle by putting their names on it…haha…i think Machine Drum was there too with Ken (Eigh Frozen Modules) an enjoyable time it was.
