Klaxons - As Above, So Below (Justice remix) REVISITED

klax Klaxons - As Above, So Below (Justice remix) REVISITED

We posted the undeniably good Justice remix of Klaxons ‘As Above, So Below’ last week, but remember I said it reminded me of Michael McDonald for some reason. Well, it finally dawned on me that Justice must’ve have been listening to a lot of the Doobie Brothers at the time of making the remix. Listen to the Justice remix and then The Doobies 1978 hit ‘What A Fool Believes’ and you decide.

I’m glad I’m not the only person who noticed that. Also note the synth elements taken from Alan Braxe’s remix of Kelis’ “Bossy”…

Hate me everybody, but it sounds lightly like Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical” (At least, in the very beginning…) :S

“Whatever… it’s an amazing tune” I’d prefer if there was less reinterpretation and alike going around myself. It’s a nice remix, but come on?

i remember that sweet freedom track from the movie.. it’s at the end where they’re sailing off during the credits.

safri duo did a remake/remix of that track with michael mcdonald a few years ago.

Tom - yes, reinterpretation and remixes can certainly seem been there done that after a while, but the truth is that all art is based on reinterpretation and reactions to what’s already out there. Wether it’s Chromeo borrowing a term that Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown made famous in the 80s (starts with t ends with oni), or Matthew Barney ripping off Houdini’s image for his Cremaster series.

Take it for what it is, BAM!

its interesting because daft punk does the same thing. takes old songs from late 60’s and 70’s uses same tunes but modernized and bam. you have daft punk. :]
amazing what one can do with simple tunes.

I think bassline is the sample of My forbidden Lover by Chic. When you listen to My Forbidden Lover at the beginning an make it very slow. it sounds pretty like this remix’ bassline.

  26. 26 jthomas Identicon Icon jthomas

It’s funny how someone thinks it’s Luther Vandross - Shine and someone thinks the bass is from Chic - My Forbidden Lover cause there is actually a remix of both songs on Youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFPKc-nMB7A

I think you’re both right and maybe Justice watched this video before doing their Klaxons remix ? ;-)

I personaly love this As Above, So Below remix, cause it’s very far from the original song.
