Felix Cartal - New song ‘Vancouver’ / Remixes of MSTRKRFT, Dragonette, Ashlee Simpson, & Britney Spears

felixcartal Felix Cartal - New song Vancouver / Remixes of MSTRKRFT, Dragonette, Ashlee Simpson, & Britney Spears

Know who’s the fucking man? FELIX CARTAL, all caps, is the fucking man.

Cartal is a child of France but his affinity for his second home, Canada is strong. In his newest work, Felix Cartal pays homage to the city where he lived and partied and was undoubtedly inspired. The track is ‘Vancouver’, which bookends his previous track, ‘Montreal Dreams’.

MP3: Felix Cartal - Vancouver

By Sea, Land, and Air, (and Dance Music) We Prosper (Vancover’s new and improved motto).

Our friends at Trash Menagerie have an interview with Felix Cartal where you can pick up ‘Montreal Dreams’ at 96kbps. If you’re thirsty for more info, there’s an earlier interview at Floukids.

Felix’s catalog between his 2006 debut and now is small but immense. The most recent favorite here at Missingtoof, is the B-side to Moving Units recent ‘Crash ‘N’ Burn Victims’ single on So Sweet Records, which we put up a while back.

So what other remixes has Felix laced? Try on MSTRKRFT, Dragonette, and a surprising very (very) favorite remix of Ashlee Simpson. Now, as Felix notes in the aforementioned interview, he does have a thing for female pop vocals, so his Britney Spears remix was an apt follow up.

What to do when you love them all and can’t decide? All or nothing, baby.

MP3: Dragonette - Take It Like a Man (Felix Cartal Remix)

MP3: Ashlee Simpson - L.O.V.E (Felix Cartal Remix)

MP3: Britney Spears - Outrageous (Felix Cartal Remix)

Oh man, that’s fresh. Let’s go overkill and pile on the Felix Cartal. Dude should be all caps at all times. This is large. From oldest to newest, let’s indulge further:

MP3: Felix Cartal - Decadanse

MP3: Felix Cartal - Moss vs. Tree

MP3: Felix Cartal - Drugs

MP3: Felix Cartal - Parisienne

MP3: Felix Cartal - Drugs (Hostage Remix)

Which reminds me, how sick is Scotland’s Hostage? Felix Cartal, in his globetrotting, has recently settled in Scotland and clicked up with his electro-fied kindred spirit. A remix is a beautiful thing.

Daft Punk - Around the World (Villains’ More Cowbell DJ Edit)

villains3 Daft Punk - Around the World (Villains More Cowbell DJ Edit)

As you’ve probably noticed if you’ve been here recently, we’re very excited about Villains.

Who better than than three young, but experienced, audio engineers to usher in the the new era of Los Angeles and US Electro sound? You’ve heard their remix of Bloc Party and their finesse of Michael Jackson samples. So what’s next? The acid test, it seems, in this electronic music niché is the Daft Punk remix—they’re never in short supply and it seems that every would-be producer has one in their répertoire. For this benchmark of production ability, the Villains pass with flying colors, while the majority turn out as dull as alkaline.

Soulwax - ‘Miserable Girl’ Royal Rumble edit / Original mix

soulwaxroyalrumble Soulwax - Miserable Girl Royal Rumble edit / Original mix

At this point you should be no stranger to L.A.’s Royal Rumble gang—the three-man no-holds-barred tag-team party posse.

I was having dinner with Dan Rumble, of RR fame, the other night when he told me he had the goods—a DJ friendly edit of Soulwax’s ‘Miserable Girl’ that takes the hypest elements of ‘Miserable girl’ and prolongs that feeling of electro-euphoria.

MP3: Soulwax - Miserable Girl (Royal Rumble Edit)

And ’cause this track was melodic and perfect to begin with, a rip from the original, the brilliant, Soulwax ‘Nite Versions’ 12″:

MP3: Soulwax - Miserable Girl

And lastly, something we’ve posted before, but damn if it doesn’t deserve one more go around—the Rumble’s remix of ‘Damn Girl’ by Kid Sister. Shit is dialtone, son! (’Cause it’s off the hook!).

MP3: Kid Sister - Damn Girl (Royal Rumble Hall of Fame Remix)

Blow Up SF and Frisco Disco Strike Again

After Steve Aoki and Uffie, we didn’t think BLOW UP could get more epic but Jeffrey Paradise (a.k.a. Jefrodisiac) and Richie Panic took 11 to 12 alongside The Glass (NY) and Pink Skull (PA). Then they did it again the next night at Frisco Disco alongside Gina Turner (LA) and Hatchmatik (Montreal). Photographer Lady Meleksah and videographer Peter Noble were there to capture us getting down.

Villains - Vol. 1, Featuring Whiskey Pete (Mix)

villains2 Villains - Vol. 1, Featuring Whiskey Pete (Mix)

Villains have officially taken over the blogger’nets. Starting with yrs truly, the villany spread to Good Weather for Airstirkes, BlocParty.net and on down the line.

As promised in the introduction earlier this month, more Villains coming at you. Today we have their first mix, ‘Vol. 1′ for your speakers. So, crank ‘em up and get an earful of this electro set that the Villains “can almost call … a ‘classic’ mix wrapping up what was hot for 2007″.

This mix is atypical for an electro set for two reasons: First, it has an emcee, LA’s own D’n'B champ, Whiskey Pete, who spikes the beat-punch with a few shots of party raps. Second, the Villains can cut a mean record and they bring that turntabilsm to the table—or pair of turntables as it were.

‘Vol. 1′ is also one of the few places you’ll hear the mastered version of the Justice’s ‘DVNO’, LA Riots remix—that will be appearing on an upcoming Ed Banger EP.

Tittsworth & Klever: The “Kleavage” tour begins tonight! Club remixes of Justice, Bell Biv Devoe, Paul McCartney, YoungbloodZ, Purple Ribbon Allstars & Hollywood Holt

kleavage Tittsworth & Klever: The Kleavage tour begins tonight! Club remixes of Justice, Bell Biv Devoe, Paul McCartney, YoungbloodZ, Purple Ribbon Allstars & Hollywood Holt

The witty-tour award absolutely goes to DC’s Tittsworth and ATL’s Klever, who are kicking off their “Kleavage” tour in Miami tonight. Expect good things from this pair of club smashing turntablists—but I didn’t have to tell you that. You already know this isn’t something to be missed when they roll through your town.

Get amped with these Club knockers: Titts’ re-work of Bell Biv Devoe’s ‘Poison’, and (’cuz ’tis that season again) ‘Titts’mas’ with the sleigh-bells and Paul McCartney’s ‘A Wonderful Christmas Time’ samples. Oh, and that A+ remix of Justice’s ‘D.A.N.C.E.’. We put it up last month, but it’s so good it gets a blog-rewind.

MP3: Tittsworth - Poison

MP3: Tittsworth - Titts’mas

MP3: Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (Tittsworth Remix)

Klever is one bad dude! These tracks will sound very familiar if you’ve ever spent a little time on a club dancefloor. We’ve got a re-work of Purple Ribbon Allstars featuring Big Boi (of Outkast) re-branded as ‘Kryptobounce’. We’ve got a so called “VIP mix” of Youngbloodz featuring Lil’ Jon and Pitbull on ‘Don’t Start No Shit’. And, lastly we’ve got a remix of Hollywood Holt’s ‘Caked Up’.

Under the Covers 3

underthecovers3 Under the Covers 3

The Under The Covers column returns! We’ve slowly been collecting more cover songs that run the gamut from awesome to odd to awful. All varieties are worth hearing! Listen in awe or disdainful laughter.

30 Seconds to Mars covers Kanye West’s ‘Stronger’ live on BBC Radio 1. This falls into the laughable category even though frontman Jared Leto delivers the vocals so earnestly. They saved the Daft Punk vocals, so don’t expect any. I’d be rolling if they tried.

MP3: 30 Seconds to Mars - Stronger (Kayne West cover)

Ontario’s hardcore rockers Fucked Up covering Justice’s ‘Stress’ a few months back. Fucking awesome.

MP3: Fucked Up - Stress (Justice cover)

File this under fantastic, I first heard do this Pink Floyd cover at last month’s Vegoose festival and was very impressed. Not many groups can come close to a classic, but the The Shins do.

MP3: The Shins - Breathe (Pink Floyd Cover)

The Lemonheads folk-rock version of MisfitsDanzig-era punk classic ‘Skulls’. Fucking ‘ardcore!

MP3: The Lemonheads - Skulls (Misfits cover)

And in that same vein, this Zwan (Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame’s 2001-2003 project) cover of Metal gods Iron Maiden on ‘Mark of the Beast’. Probably one of my favorite covers comes at you from the Spun soundtrack.

MP3: Zwan - Number of the Beast (Iron Maiden cover)

Next up, Lightspeed Champion covering The Beatles immortal John Lennon. Lightspeed Champion is Devonte Hynes or just “Dev”, formerly of thrash-rap-punk group Test Icicles. Test Icicles remains one of my favorite things ever. I seriously moaned and writhed while morning the death of the Test Icicles last year. But the musicians live on! Dev maintains a blog at TheWorldForgot.com, there he puts up a great many home recordings—quite different from Test Icicles, but great in a whole new way:

MP3: Lightspeed Champion - Better Off Dead (Elton John cover)

Ladytron getting sexy R’n'B’d out covering Tweet’s slut-anthem ‘Oops (Oh My)’. Y’all remember this original? With the Timbaland beat and Missy Elliot doin’ backup vocals? This cover appeared as a b-side on their ‘Evil’ single:

MP3: Ladytron - Oops (Oh My) (Tweet cover)

And, perhaps, saving the best for last, three Radiohead covers of The Smiths, New Order, and Björk in a recent live webcast on their Dead Air Space promoting their newest LP, In Rainbows:

MP3: Radiohead - The Headmaster Ritual (The Smiths cover)

MP3: Radiohead - Ceremony (New Order cover)

MP3: Radiohead - Unravel (Bjork cover)

The covers are king sized! We got covers for days so expect more ‘Under the Covers’ posts soon.

You want more now?! Peep our archive for the tag-word ‘Cover’.

Guns’N'Bombs: Mixtape #3

gunsnbombs GunsNBombs: Mixtape #3

I haven’t slept in 24 hours, and this Monday is gonna suck! But it’s okay, because I have Kitsune playboys Guns’N'Bombs new Mixtape #3 on repeat! Fuck a sleep! Guns’N'Bombs Mixtape #3 is the most bananas-est, balls-to-the-walls mix we’ve heard in a minute. My ear wax is boiling, dunny! This shit is hot!

The mix was recorded for L.A. radio station Indie 103.1’s Saturday night electro show Neon Noise. Fluokids got the master recording and spread the word—Now we’re running with it, because, well, Guns’N'Bombs are some the very best L.A. has to offer and we’d be ashamed not be pushing these goods. As Guns’N'Bombs’ Johnny “Guns” Love and Turbo Tito‘, long-standing slogan goes, “All bangers. No mash.” This is Techno and House done proper. Take yr mash and shove it.

Tracklisting:

  1. Harddrive - Deep Inside
  2. Boys Noize - My Head (Para One remix)
  3. Junior Senior - Get To Know You (Guns ‘N’ Bombs Jak The Tab mix)

Dead Kids ‘Fear and Fluoride’ remixes from Shy Child, Lillica Libertine, Re:ply, Rio & We Are Not Ghetto Kids

deadkids Dead Kids Fear and Fluoride remixes from Shy Child, Lillica Libertine, Re:ply, Rio & We Are Not Ghetto Kids

London kids, Dead Kids are absolutely one of our favorite indie rock acts out now, and it doesn’t hurt that they’re having some top-shelf remixes done to their most popular, ‘Fear and Fluoride’, which is slated for release this upcoming Monday, November 19th on Salvia:

MP3: Dead Kids - Fear and Fluoride

A strong showing of remixes have been churned out by some of our favorite peoples including Shy Child who you can read up on in our Shy Child archive, the oft-mentioned Lillica Libertine who we can’t post enough of, and some new favorites, Prague producers Re:ply!, French producers We Are Not Ghetto Kids and a mysterious ‘Rio Remix’ that I just can’t place.

MP3: Dead Kids - Fear and Fluoride (Shy Child Remix)

MP3: Dead Kids - Fear and Fluoride (Lillica Libertine’s Tried and Tested Remix)

MP3: Dead Kids - Fear and Fluoride (Re:ply! Ruff Remix)

MP3: Dead Kids - Fear and Fluoride (Rio Remix)

Wow. Monster remixes!

The government’s been putting that mind-control fluoride in the water for years. It’s how they get us to willingly pay parking tickets and watch FOX News. We’ve never been afraid of losing a tooth or five, but we are afraid of mind-control! Listen to the songs above and don’t drink the water!

Let me leave you with one more original that shows what other tricks the Dead Kids can pull off:

Refused: The finest hardcore punk of our generation gets Electro-fied & Hip-Hop’d out by Shark Attack & Hensforth

refused Refused: The finest hardcore punk of our generation gets Electro-fied & Hip-Hopd out by Shark Attack & Hensforth

Sweden’s Refused are something I get very excited about. It doesn’t matter that they broke up in 1998 and their ashes have since scattered into other groups including The (International) Noise Conspiracy. Refused is my long standing favorite hardcore punk band.

Many are familiar with the track ‘New Noise’ off Refused’s last album, ‘The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombation In 12 Bursts’ on Burning Heart Records (and later Epiptaph). That tune, amazing music video and containing album had acute electronic music sensibility and it lends itself very well to club rotation. I’ve heard Steve Aoki throw down ‘New Noise’ in his sets on numerous occasions—I always smile, then throw elbows and stomp feet. The build up at the beginning drops right into some of the fiercest screams ever. Play it loud or louder.

MP3: Refused - New Noise

Yow! Electro “bangers” and hardcore punk aren’t so far apart, really. The energy levels can be nearly identical.

I know RATM gets love in L.A.’s hippest dancefloors, particularly since the Late Night Laptop Re-Edit remix that Ed Banger’s SebastiAn did.

Now San Diego’s Shark Attack have put an electro twist on ‘New Noise’. I think a re-edit of this track is long overdue and I’m excited to see someone has stepped up to the challenge. The main sample sounds a bit clipped, but who cares, it’s Refused! The novelty rules! Some of y’all might like it and others might think it’s the highest blasphemy. I’d like to see other edits and uses of this track someday.

MP3: Refused - New Noise (Shark Attack Remix)

And for good measure, here’s a another original, ‘Refused are Fucking Dead’ along with a remix that appeared on their 1998 ‘Theology E.P.’:

MP3: Refused - Refused Are Fucking Dead

MP3: Refused - Refused Are Fucking Dead (Bomba Je Remix, Long Version)

And on a final note—something different—hear this hip-hop from Montreal’s Hensforth that takes Stack House rapper C-Ride’s ‘P-P-Pushin’ and remixes it with ‘New No
