MP3: Jason Tyler – I’m in Love

Jason Tyler has a recent debut record, but he’s no new jack. He’s been in the EDM scene for years—as well as being a classically trained jazz musician. Jason Tyler earned his stripes in the Chicago house scene, but has always been apart from the rest. Jason Tyler is a little different. He’s been known employ his jazzy trumpet skills while mixing and has done the same for the likes of Mark Farina, Timo Maas, Cajmere (a.k.a. Green Velvet), and Miguel Migs.

Jason Tyler has one of the most tragic of anecdotal stories. It happened not too long ago, when his Chicago rental house burned to the ground while he was on tour with his temporary roommate, tour buddy and friend Superstar DJ Keoki. The fire was caused by a frayed Macbook power cord. The cord was pinched by a cinderblock holding Keoki’s DJ equipment—eventually sparking a blaze that took the whole place down. When the pair came back from touring they found their house boarded up and their stuff in ruins. In a sentence, DJ Keoki burned Jason Tyler’s house down.

In the wake of losing everything. Jason Tyler went transient in New York before setting in South Beach, Florida. There, he’s grounded himself and made a fantastic record; that record is ‘Model Tested Rockstar Approved’. The name is lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek. The content is hard-hitting and can drop a jaw. I’d align it with what’s called “electro” more than anything else. It’s a fantastic record; people just need to hear it.

  • whether or not jason's a dick (he's not - he's an incredible person) is besides the point. this is a music blog. and anyone who comes on here to trash talk him not once but twice should look into getting some hobbies.
  • I have known Jason for years, have had him DJ for parties of mine and have recently kept in touch with him as I'm a writer for URB. I have of course, heard all the rumors listed above but my experience of him is that he is a sweet genuine person who has worked hard at his craft. Jason has been sending me all his new material and I applaud how hardworking and dilligent he is. The tracks are good, he's been able to reinvent himself, and whatever relationship he may or may not have had with Keoki has no bearing on this album. Kudos to Jason.

  • I've got to say I like the guy, but there are certain similarities with the itch and glitch there is elsewhere, but isn't that inevitable?

Anyway, after Joey Dee's enthusiasm I featured Cause and Effect in this weeks Anablogue episode, a podcast about mp3 blogs.

My final comment on this to Chicago Laughs is!! WTF are you talking about a great guy. Lets see he ripped off the kids from Seattle to throw all that Jazz he threw parties with Vanilla Ice because.....gosh that is really pushing some musical bondries you wouldn't do that JUST TO MAKE MONEY!!! WTF!! How many times did he have a headliner at his parties that he NEVER had booked?? You are out of you mind......I love the beats but thats besides the point. IF YOU HAVE SHIT ON PEOPLE THE WHOLE WAY TO THE TOP GET READY FOR SOME OF IT TO GET POURED ON YOU IN THE END!!!

Interesting take from tellithowitis (minus the gay/straight comment, which was moronic/comical). I have no clue if it's true or not, but the association with Keoki did/does make me a bit skeptical.

The tunes, however, speak for themselves as true bangers, so I withhold judgment.

Also, for those that want this album and don't require physical media to feel fulfilled, beatport has this full album available for purchase (though for some reason only at individual track pricing...).
  • this stuff is...quite...searing really.

that's one of those words that gets thrown around to describe muzik too oft...

    but damn. SEARING.

'Tell it how it is'...You are crazy. If you even knew translucent/Jason Tyler you would know he is a very nice guy. Gay or straight has nothing to do with music and considering you put that in your comment, you are a shallow person. I have personally seen jason play and have never seen him clear a crowd, in fact he does the opposite. He is one of the most innovative djs around. I am from chicago and remember him rockin countless dance floors. If anything, it was very brave of him to leave the well-respected house community and step out on a limb to what he is doing now, which, btw i wouldn't even classify as electro. Sleeping with Keoki even if that was true...Lmao this really shows your character by the things you are making up. You really need to grow up...you obviously have or have had issues with Jason and should save your drama for your psychiatrist. Jason has alot of friends, fans and people that like his new stuff. We miss Jason and there will always be a home for him in Chicago...so drop the bitter.
  • @ tellithowitis:

I didn't know the politics. I just called it how I heard it.

This is a big farse!!! Jason Tyler is the worlds biggest douchebag! Fuck I can't count the number of parties where this fuck cleared the dance floor with that stupid fucking trumpet he doesn't even know how to play. Or the amount of promoters and djs he has ripped off with this shadey shit parties. Also how the fuck week in and week out do you go from being straight to gay and then back and forth again the next week?? This guys ragged on electro or anything that wasn't some shitty deep house music for years and years. Not until he started taking it in the ass from crackhead Keoki did he start turning to electro and he only did that because he could make a buck on it. FAKE FAKER.....and Jason Tyler the fakest douche of them all. Boycotte buying any of this guys stuff if you want to preserve "LOVE OF ELECTRO MUSIC FOR PEOPLE THAT REALLY LOVE ELECTRO MUSIC!!! peace kidz
