Steve Aoki (a.k.a Kid Millionaire)—the founder of Dim Mak Records and co-founder of Hollywood’s premier indie/dance weekly, Cinespace (Tuesdays)—is known the world over as a int’l party rocker and so-called celebrity DJ. Today, Steve Aoki droped his debut mix album, ‘Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles’ on Thrive Records.
And what did I tell you? Aoki starts his record off with Refused’s hardcore punk classic ‘New Noise’ and from there on it, it’s three thick layers deep of partytime. Layer one: take a club hit: Justice’s ‘Waters of Nazereth’. Layer two: find the most balls-out remix from one of the biggest names in dance music, Erol Alkan. Layer three: (now here’s the tricky part) enlist your hip and talented friends, say, Spank Rock affiliate Pase Rock to put a special verse in the mix.
Now do that over and over again. You’ve got a pretty unique and phenomenal mix. Here are some layered excerpts pulled from the mix:
MP3: Steve Aoki - Goose - Bring It On (with Todd Fink of The Faint guest drop)
MP3: Steve Aoki - KIM - Wet N Wild (with Mickey Avalon guest drop)
MP3: Steve Aoki - Scanners - Low Life (LA Riots Remix) (with Uffie guest drop)

isn’t the pase rock verse off lindsay lohans revenge? good mix though.
This is some stupid shit. Not only are a lot of these tracks old and played out but adding a verse that doesnt even mesh and isnt mastered properly is just a poor excuse for a release. Aoki should stick to being a rich-kid hollywood socialite and continue getting drunk with 17 year old and leave the proper releases to the real artists. The only reason he tours like he does is because of his label and the fact that he has so much money, even so he agrees to his face on the side of a bus and to tour with hollywood actors gone djs? I dont think I could think of a greater way to insult the djing community and discredit yourself, ooh yeah maybe hang out with corey kennedy and let her take over your set when you are too wasted to finish. total wanker.
I love DJs who Tour includes stops at local best buys
hahahah amazing. Im glad someones on the same page as me. Im just mad i didnt get booked to play my local circuit city.
pure garbage
Way to copy and paste the PR bullshit. I think i’ve seen that paragraph on three other blogs/sites who don’t have the stones to say aoki is bullshit and who the fuck would pay for any of these tracks when theyve been out for months (years in some cases). And that erol alkan remix is simply a drum edit for DJs, wouldn’t exactly call it revolutionary or crazy or anything.
@ zach:
I copied nothing. The reason why you’ve read similar things on different sites is because we’re listening to the same album and saying what’s notable about it. Presumably, the layers like I mentioned.
I have nothing buy love for Steve Aoki. It’s not a mix of dubplates, so what. It’s not a technical marvel like a Mixmaster Mike or Mike Relm record. So what? …I’m still listening to good mixes from 4 years ago. Spinning dubplayes is all politics. It’s a fun mix. And Steve Aoki is a good dude. He’s kept broke nobodies like me drunk and partying for free for years and years. There’s nothing pretentious about that.
Drink your haterade everybody.
its so true. hideosly true infact. just because you know everyone in hollywood doesnt give you the right to remaster good music and make it sound shit.
Nice to know he was able to buy you off with free drinks and entry to parties. And dubplates? Thats not politics thats expressing a true love for djing and seeking out rare and exclusive tracks, how is that politics? Spinning all blogged mp3s is trendy, id rather be strong in politics and stick around then be a played out trend, sukka!
He released the album through a label other than his own? wtf mate?
in LA it’s trendy to hate on Steve Aoki, actually. So we’re counterculture. And we’ve not said more than three words to each other in our lives. He’s not a friend of mine—he’s just a dude who knows how to get a party crackin’, and I respect that.
But I stand by my opinion that it’s an enjoyable mix. For every negative comment above we’ve got 50+ people wanting the album in contest entries.
I was introduced to a lot of great music through steve aoki’s label, Dim Mak. I also hear he’s a fantastic guy and a regular stand-up human being.
however, not even in motley crüe’s cokebinge hayday did they release anything nearly as embarassing as the pillowface chronicles.
This EP / mixtape represents every parody, and every unfortunate moment that is making the LA electro scene an embarrassing watermark on the current music scene.
there is no amount of blow I could ever possibly do to excuse the mickey avalon “KIM” edit, nor even listen past the first verse without turning red in the cheeks and closing my laptop.
I am not the greatest producer in the world, but this shit makes us all cringe. seriously.
come on man.
“cobrasnake takin pictures of my dick while my bitches sit and wait”
“don’t hate on the AV cause I treat my ladies bad, I’m crazy in FX and maybe I’m a fag.
There’s a party in my pants and you’re all on the list.
The doorman’s big and black and he’s pissed
So don’t bring no dudes
hide the ludes
and bring me a mickey for the pain in my kidney.”
It’s worse than sebastian bach’s most self absorbed moment ever. His shitty purple lips were an accident. they were honest. This verse is worse than anything Uffie could ever dream of. Uffie is like ghetto boys compared to this shit.
Please. Steve Aoki. I beg you.
Stop.
Don’t make my memories of your label and the music you introduced me to become tainted with this self-absorbed hopeless bullshit.
Quit trying to hang on and re-affirm your redundancy. We get it. You’re old and boring.
Be a man. Take control of your “artistry”

There must be a lot of people on Steve Aoki’s dick for this to have made it onto this website. Apparently knowing anything about anything, music in particular, is becoming less and less of a priority for the burnt out pro skateboarders and dorks like Steve Aoki who have hijacked LA’s club scene. Why is his name before the artist’s on this cd?
Comment 12 is on the fucking money.
The lyrics and quality of the vocals are horrible.
Aoki is nice and can be way cool…
But this is definitely a fuck up - bad.
Dude could have hired dope artists to make original bad ass exclusive remixes.
That would be giving the people something.
Instead he drops shit shit shitty vocals that represent the personality of the worst cheesy ass frat boy dipshit with hipster clothes and street cred off of pushing blow.
Pure shit.
So maybe I missed the battle when this post went up, but I completely agree. I’ve never been to LA nor have any intention of going in the near future, and one major reason is that LA electro scene. It’s just like fucking Hollywood: overprocessed and dumb. Don’t get me wrong, some great shit has come from the west coast and some horrible shit is coming out of everywhere else, but I think this poor excuse for a compilation is the perfect example of everything that’s wrong with it.
Steve Aoki is a kid who DJs because he can…and nothing annoys me more than that. If he had as much passion and drive to dig through crates and yard sales and blogs and underground magazines (like so many music geeks out there without the easy fucking means/money to become “famous”), he wouldn’t have given us some debut album with these LA hipsters dropping dumb guest verses over songs that have been looped and recycled for years. Maybe he’d use his chintzy Cobrasnake fame and give a chance to some of the kids out there producing shit that’s new and worthwhile, rather than an Erol Alkan remix of a Justice track we’ve all heard a hundred times over. The only saving grace in that I paid 18 damn bucks for this is that it happened when I was completely shitfaced at an awesome local record shop’s closing party. The fact that those 18 dollars will go to toward’s funding the owner’s bank debt is the only thing that made the purchase even a little okay.
(Giggling) With So Much Drama in tha LA-SCENE, It’s Kinda hard bein Steve A-O-KEY…
I’m New to MISSINGTOOF, and maybe this has already been done on here, but why don’t you guys have a mixtape contest. Then we can compare them to Aoki’s mixtape. It shouldn’t be that hard since so many people think what Aoki does is easy. Lets put our mixes where our mouths are people…show us these amazing underground bargain bined tracks you’ve got. SHUT THE FUCK UP…if you don’t like it leave and getcha money back!
What are the rest of the words after that song……i can never understand it…..after the kidney part…???
Ahh its frustrating me lol
in the song…..
Wet EN Wild w/ Mickey Avalon’s Guest Drop
can’t be better
