Dopplereffekt- Gesamtkunstwerk: Basura’s Pick of the Week

dopp Dopplereffekt Gesamtkunstwerk: Basuras Pick of the Week

Not intended to feature the latest music out there, my ‘Pick of the Week’ is to simply share & highlight music I personally enjoy regardless of timeframe. This weeks pick is Dopplereffekt’s album, ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’.

Highly influenced by Kraftwerk, mysterious Detroit Techno/Electro group Dopplereffekt have a sound that is precise and clean, minimal but far from boring, having more in common to the retro-electro sound of Cybotron than what is considered “electro” by todays standards.

‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ (Released on DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo Records), acts as more of a collection rather than an album, combining material they released prior with some other tracks.

It’s amazing to think that this album came out almost 10 years ago…

I love this album. Funny thing about this one. I didn't even know there was 7 inch record in there with the 2 12's. Sterilization 1 and 2 are among my favs to drop in the middle of a set. Time travel indeed.
  • I'm told they actually used to sell cassette versions of the album themselves in the streets of Munich, where they used to play live(ish) and pass the hat too!

My buddy Mark actually does the interrogation in the Ocean Drive video ;) Also check out Fred Everything - Revolution on youtube!!
  • @ johnatron:

  • Where is pornostar?!? Or whatever it was called.

PS: technically the fpu track was "crocketts theme" .... like from miami vice. The tiga remix version was ocean drive. The mateo murphy remix is still my favorite.

    Thanks for posting this
  • @ jo: yes! fpu was awesome! ocean drive was a killer track! =)
  • @ rafael: yes! there is a relationship to trash. i just found the word interesting long ago, and i stuck with it. =)

  • @ Stephen:

You're not going crazy! When this album first came out and I was spinning electro back in the day, most of it sounded like this..Indeed, time travel is crazy!

And I STILL rock Dopplereffekt in my sets!! Peep my 'Live In Le Hot Room Mixes' in the archives- i feature a Dopplereffekt track in one of them mixes..

  • Maybe I'm going crazy, but I feel like I can hear the beginnings of just about everything that's popular now, in just these two songs. Especially the kick snare style on that second track. I can think of more than a couple people that have likely ripped that off.

    Time travel is crazy.
