Bearries, an experimental electro-dance outfit out of Chicago, make exciting live-electronics based music that is refreshing to the ear, and I can only imagine how they must sound live. Based on some of the footage and pictures I’ve seen on their Myspace page, I’m sure they put on a hell of a show.
There’s just something about seeing electronic musicians live on synths and drum machines, twiddling knobs and pushing buttons on actual pieces of equipment that make a performance that much better than just say, seeing someone in front of a glowing laptop like they’re checking mail in front of an audience (No disrespect to anyone btw, it’s just more fun watching shows when musicians use real music equipment!!!)
Bands of the past like Throbbing Gristle and Kraftwerk (both of which I’ve never seen, to my dismay) to newer acts like Wolf Eyes, Meat Beat Manifesto, Solvent, and Adult. (all of which I have seen) do this well, inviting the audience to a more intimate and personal performance with every sound they command out of their machines, and in a way it seems Bearries do this well too… if you ever get a chance to see them live, do so!
Here are two of their tracks, both almost around ten minutes each. These are amazing electronic excursions! Enjoy!
Mansion (comprised of Toronto talents DJ Barletta and Violca) take Swedish superstar DJ/Producer Eric Prydz‘ huge ‘Pjanoo’ track and give it a filtered, glitched out makeover ideal for peak-time club action. Shit bumps!
Visit Eric Prydz on Myspace for tour dates and such (he’ll be making big stops in Vegas, SF, and LA this week and then heading over to Europe & Australia until the end of January- check him out if he’s in your area!)
Hall & Oates‘ classic 80’s pop track ‘Out of Touch’ gets remixed by Indiana’s hardworking Action Jackson, giving it more of a ‘B-More’-style backbone. With its familiarity to the (general) public and overall catchiness of the tune itself, this should easily bring people on to the dance floor like bees on honey. On the rizzeal!
“Indianapolis born and raised, ACTION JACKSON has quickly established himself as one of the premier up and coming DJs in the country. Specializing in genre bending mixes that span multiple styles of music, he is equally comfortable spinning hip-hop, Baltimore club, electro, old school classics, dancehall, rock, and everything in between. His productions are diverse as well, having remixed artists such as Hall & Oates, Soulja Boy, and Treasure Fingers. In short, there’s not a crowd or party that he can’t rock. In 2007, he partnered with Flufftronix to form Rad Summer, a booking and promotions company, and has since been responsible for several succesfull events throughout the Midwest as well the first Indiana performances of Flosstradamus, DJ Assault, The Toxic Avenger, Scottie B., etc…”
Everything you ever wanted to know about Action Jackson is on his website here.
A few posts back we featured the UK’s Futurecop! remixed by Cryptonites, but this time around we’re featuring a remix Futurecop! did for Florida party rappers Yo Majesty!
There’s not much I can say about Futurecop! other than they know what they’re doing and they do it well. Here’s the catchy-80’s-nostalgia-synth-loving Futurecop! take on Yo Majesty’s cut ‘Club Action’..
Grammy nominated producers Jean-Marie Moens and Luke Mourinet collectively know as Ruff and Jam have been in the game since 2002 and have done official remixes for the likes of Kylie Minogue, The Killers, Sia, Amy Winehouse, Tiga and more. The duo has now worked over blog towns favorite trio of ladies Au Revoir Simone’s ‘Lark’ which is off their 2007 album titled ‘The Bird Of Music’. The remix isn’t what you call a dancefloor banger but it’s just as sexy and sentimental as the original.
And whilst we’re on the subject of Au Revoir Simone and remixes, I know you all remember the rework of ‘Fallen Snow’ by The Teenangers. which we’ll post it again for nostalgia’s sake.
Please visit Au Revoir Simone on myspace or their own official site. If you have not picked up last years ‘Bird of Music’ album you can do that at Amazon, Insound or if you prefer digital, iTunes.
Ruff and Jam have a new official website that you should check out. They are also on the MySpace and new some friend love. Add them and check out the other awesome works they have available for stream.
Housse de Racket is a Parisian duo made of of too childhood friends who have a knack for making insanely catchy tunes. The bands outstanding single ‘Oh Yeah’ which sounds like an ode to musical maestros of past, has received the remix treatment from fellow Parisian electro purveyors Tepr, 25 Hours a Day & Gonzales. Partake.
Housse de Racket’s first album ‘Forty Love‘ is out October 13th. They are playing various dates in and around Paris. If you are in the area be sure to check them out.
Britpop kings Oasis came out with ‘Dig Out Your Soul’, their seventh studio album today. (Pick it up at your local independent record store!)
Hardworking New York-based DJ/producer Chew Fu, who has remixed the likes of The Beastie Boys, Keyshia Cole, and even Frank Sinatra!?! decided to add Oasis to that diverse list of names, giving their track ‘The Turning’ the bumpin’ filtered house treatment…
MP3: Oasis- The Turning (Chew Fu Remix)
Removed at label’s request
For good measure and a change of pace, here’s ‘Wonderwall’, one of my personal favorite (and much older) classic tracks from Oasis…
