Can someone explain what makes “doom-pop” different from what say, Tears For Fears used to do? Citation below (mute one or the other, the pitches match but the tempos don't):

They dish a little more info on HURTS:
“A moody and exceedingly stylish duo from Manchester, Hurts inhabit an enigmatic, cinematic black & white world where they construct melancholic 1980s-inspired electro-pop. They resemble Tears For Fears, as shot by Anton Corbijn.

Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson were in (scruffier) bands Bureau and Daggers before, the latter of which supported Gary Numan. But on a trip to Italy, they discovered “disco-lento” (slow disco), became fixed on adopting a more austere and elegant European aesthetic and Hurts were born.”

I dislike the label Pop Noir because it's already the name of a popular club i Southern California (San Diego, specifically) and they don't exactly play "doom pop" style music (I borrowed that term, btw).

I'm quite resourceful at procuring quality tracks. I'm happy that people seem to be digging HURTS, and that their label (it's a safe assumption they have one) has yet to insist that we take it down.

Pulling alongside our gucci shoes drive-up bank window, a woman was not happy with her position. So she backed up and pulled closer. Still not satisfied, she backed away and tried again. After five attempts, gucci handbags she finally parked the car and rolled down her window. I greeted her with a simple "Good morning". "Good morning," gucci sunglasses she replied cheerfully. "I'm going to have to use this drive-up all the time. It's so easy!"

There's quite a bit of this Doom Pop floating around the UK at the moment. Probably recession-induced I guess. It's also been called Pop-Noir, which I think is an even better name! Check out the band Mirrors for more great examples of it (at http://www.myspace.com/mirrorsmirrorsmirrors )

Hurts are a band from Manchester, who deliberately keep a tight lid on everything over here, although we believe they were born out of the now defunct band Daggers. They won't even let us have this mp3, (they mentioned something about a major label forcing them not to hand it out) so dunno how you managed to grab it!? Well done though coz it's a really great tune.
