L.A.’s Guns’N'Bombs are wise old record collectors. You probably know they crank out the finest gentleman’s techno, but did you know that they do the disco? The folks at Echo Park Records gave us this mix last week and it’s been the rotation for summer ever since.

Out of the retro mode here’s some more good stuff in the form of a remix of Guns’N'Bombs Kitsune debut, ‘Nothing is Getting Us Anywhere’ from more of L.A.’s best, Acid Girls.

MP3: Guns’N'Bombs - Nothing is Getting Us Anywhere (Acid Girls Remix)

Can’t neglect these Guns’N'Bombs remixes, an eclectic array of mixes for my hip-hop uncle (I wish), Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah, iconic goth-rock band, The Cult and poppy Junior Senior (of which the ‘Bombs Turbotito was a member). All recommended:

MP3: The Cult - Sound of Destruction (Guns’N'Bombs Remix)

MP3: Junior Senior - Can I Get Get Get (Guns’N'Bombs Jak The Tab Remix)

Oh shit! Guns’N'Bombs tours exotic locals such as Tapei, Bangkok, Portland, Vancouver, Los Angeles and San Francisco to name a few. Full dates and details on Guns’n'Bombs MySpace tour page.

And know that the new single drops, September 16th; the label is tentative. Here’s a taster’s spoon of the new heat; check YouTube.

Dizzee Rascal: ‘Sirens’ remixes from Acid Girls & El-P

dizzeerascal Dizzee Rascal: Sirens remixes from Acid Girls & El-P

Londoner and rap champion, Dizzee Rascal has a Mercury Music Prize collecting dust, garnered after his 2003 debut ‘Boy in da Corner’ got international attention for its clever blend of UK garage beats and hip hop grime vocals (at the just 19 years of age). But since then it’s been a bit quiet—at least in the US—Dizzee’s 2004′ follow-up ‘Showtime’ and 2007’s ‘Maths+English’ placed on the UK charts at #7 & #8, respectively, but the states never saw a proper release from the Dizzee boy. Until now—enter heroic hip-hop label Definitive Jux to pump some new life into the latest ‘Maths+English’, which is given a deserved US release slated for April 29th.

To get you all excited, we have a small handful of remixes by bloggers-gone-big-league, Acid Girls (whom a little bird told me have completed their first original production with Frankmusik vocals and it’s bananas!) and Def Jux ringleader El-P.

HEARTSREVOLUTION: C.Y.O.A. (Choose Your Own Adventure) remixes from Lauren Flax & Todd Nickolas / ‘Prism Effect (feat. Cory Kennedy)’ & Acid Girls Remix

NY/LA Boy/Girl icecream/rockstar force, HEARTSREVOLUTION are back with new remixes of a very very favorite from ‘07. You may remember ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ or simply, ‘C.Y.O.A.’ that we shared way back? This tune is still infectious, with a lot of life left. It’s dancey and just a little punk rock. Oh, that touches our sweet spot! We must have watched the video two dozen times—It’s sexy & clever and touched us again, this time getting well past second base. :-O

You may have heard the buzz; HEARTSREVOLUTION and their label IHeartComix have just concluded an open contest for the best ‘C.Y.A.O.’ remix. And who came up on top? None other than LA’s own Dan Oh of Cinespace Tuesday residency fame. The big winner comes on the upcoming single, released March 10th, alongside commissioned work from French electro-craftsman Brodinski, fellow Shot Callin’ blogger and Miami-based party rocker Lazaro Casanova, our favorite Montreal remixer CFCF, and this, from one of NY’s busiest DJ/producer ladies Lauren Flax:

More to come, but let’s dig in the past, with these B-sides off their prior heart-shaped vinyl released through Colette, and their self-pressed split EP with Crystal Castles on the A-side (supposedly without permission. Is that right? Punk rock as fuck!). It’s the track ‘Prism Effect’ featuring some vocals by high schooler and “it girl” Cory Kennedy, as well as a 2-minute vocal free edit by the oft-mentioned LA blog-producers Acid Girls.

Think you can do a better version of ‘C.Y.O.A.’? Get your bootleg on while it’s good for the getting! The tools are here. Always remember how that one oh-so-popular Justice vs. Simian track lost the battle, but won the war! Never say die!

And on that note, check this bootleg from Canadian sound designer Todd Nickolas (clever a.k.a. Civil Discobedience):

MAD REPEATERZ: Guns ‘N’ Bombs - Nothing Is Getting Us Anywhere (Acid Girls remix)

acid-girls-gnb MAD REPEATERZ: Guns N Bombs - Nothing Is Getting Us Anywhere (Acid Girls remix)

DANCE SONG OF THE YEAR!

This another installment of Mad Repeaterz. I didn’t think I’d be doing another one so soon after the Para One - Midnight Swim (Surkin Remix) but, this song landed in my lap & totally gave the other one the boot.

Two of my fave artists right now, both of whom I’ve seen perform live in the past month (big ups to Sleazemore for bringing out the heat) are finally together on one track. The Acid Girls remixed Guns n Bombs‘ (who, if you’ve been paying attention, we can’t get enough of) hit single ‘Nothing is Getting Us Anywhere’ (Kitsune). & If you’ve heard the Acid Girls’ remix work before for you know that shit is top notch.

Bonus!!

MP3: Acid Girls - Bump, Pump & Spank to Switch On Justice (Spank Rock, Switch, Justice & Technotronic)

Acid Girls & Guns ‘n’ Bombs both reside in Southern California and play nothing but the best gentleman’s techno. If you have a chance check them out. Word on the streets is a mini west coast tour is in the works. Do yourself a favor & keep your eyes peeled.

There’s so much good music out right now, Tonight will be nothing but straight bangers. I love Sleazemore’s sets and I’m really excited to see what Acid Girls have in store for SF. I’m hoping someone spins that new Simian Mobile Disco track ‘Hotdog’. That’s the jam right now.

Oh Snap Son!

acidgirls2 Oh Snap Son!

The peeps over at Acid Girls drop a super duper awesome mash up of Spank Rock’s ‘Bump’, Technotronic’s ‘Pump Up The Jam’, Dr. Dre’s sample of David McCallum’s ‘The Edge’ & Justice’s ‘Water of Nazareth’. It’s 9 minutes & twenty-four seconds of ass-shaking, finger-snapping, roof-raising, speaker-popping musical insanity. Download it while you still can!

Acid Girls are from Costa Mesa & throw a bi-monthly event by the same name. Visit them.

If you live, work, play &/or get high in the Tenderloin come check them out at my boy Sleazemore’s night Lights Down Low @ the triple deuce on December 22nd. I will most definitely be up in the piece.
