Aphex Twin vs. Chevy One – Dublicker

aphex twin Aphex Twin vs. Chevy One Dublicker

We’re down for this white-label. There’s charm in the no-name, no-label no-BS tracks; they’re perfectly content to exist in obscurity: no flashiness, no waving of banners. It’s just a track to find and appreciate on it’s own merit. Well here’s one, which I, admittedly, gave a listen to because it’s obviously a dubstep remix (because hey, who’s heard much dubtronica lately? Bill Laswell where are you?) & obviously a remix of Richard James’, better known as Aphex Twin’s, facemelting IDM dissertation ‘Windowlicker’. Ah yes, ‘Windowlicker’, from ‘99, back when Aphex Twin was indoctrinating people into his cult of Let’s-See-How-Far-We-Can-Push-Things, with support from the director Chris Cunningham, who really helped usher in the contemporary music video. Let’s reflect on the original video in HD at YouTube.

MP3: Unknown Artist vs Aphex Twin – Dublicker (2009)
[ 12mb | 284kbps vbr | 5:42 | Genre: Dubstep ]

The tune was nicked from a white-marbled UK pressing. Producer step forward and claim your prize—or not—mystery is allure. The release is Boots001; Boots for bootleg, presumably. Witty.

Snag the real mccoy on wax at our favorite, Turntable Lab.

Edit (11-21-209): Our close personal homeboy and favorite sampleslaya Sharooz (Hell Yeah!) alerted us that the ‘Unknown Artist’ is, in fact London-based Spaniard Chevy One, of Breakbeat pedigree. More propa tunes on his MySpace!

Gescom: A1-D1

gescom2 Gescom: A1 D1

Having released music from the likes of Boards of Canada, Autechre, Bola, Mr. 76ix, & Jega, Skam Records is at the very forefront of the leftfield/experimental electronic music scene.

In the past, no one was really sure who was involved with the Gescom music project- some expected it was perhaps a mixture of ‘IDM’ staples Autechre, Aphex Twin, and others. To this day, I’m not sure if anyone really knows who is in the current Gescom lineup, though it seems that, along with Russell Haswell, Gescom is indeed Autechre related.

The only certainty I have of Gescom is that, whoever is involved, ‘they’ make very interesting electronic music. Gescom usually dabble with electro, acid, and hip-hop beats and then destroy shit via rhythmic skips & glitches. Their sound is like a malfunctioning music software program gone wrong. I love it.

‘A1-D1′ is a collection of six tracks taken from 2 vinyl EP’s Gescom released prior to the CD. Here are two of them.

Ceephax Acid Crew: Basura’s Pick of the Week

Ceephax Ceephax Acid Crew: Basuras Pick of the Week

Not intended to feature the latest music out there, my ‘Pick of the Week’ is to simply share & highlight music i personally enjoy regardless of timeframe. This weeks featured artist is Ceephax Acid Crew (Andy Jenkinson). Firmly rooted in all things electronic, particularly acid & drum and bass, Ceephax can be compared to many of the acts on Aphex Twin’s record label, Rephlex, as well as his brother Squarepusher. I’d describe his music as being rhythmically erratic and energetic with melodies that can sometimes detach you from reality…
