Fucking MIXHELL! They dropped one of my favorite mixes of the year a few months ago called ‘Electro Banger Ghetto Trash’ (get it here!). And now Iggor hit us off with more hottness.
In case you forgot: Mixhell is the production duo of Igor “Iggor” Cavalera, famed ex-drummer (and founding member) of Brazillian Death Metal band Sepultura and his wife Laima Leyton.
Get ‘em? That is, if you didn’t already grab stuff from our homies at Stockholm Beat Connection or IHeartComix. Great tracks get around quicker than a rebounding hottie.
Mixhell is currently on tour in Europe supporting Soulwax on their album record-release tour. View the tour dates and stream more music on Mixhell’s MySpace.
M.I.A., like Justice is a artist who’s not short on official/unofficial remixes. But as music lovers we gotta collect them all, like Pokemon. This remix by Canadian DJ/producer Rock Steady Drew is the most official unofficial remix of Boyz that we’ve come across. Peep the scene.
If you are in Toronto on the 25th be sure to hit up M.I.A.’s official CD release party at the Drake Hotel Underground. Rock Steady Drew will be getting his disc jockey on & there will be a live performance by Toronto’s Bonjay.
OMG, so the new M.I.A. record, ‘Kala’ will hit stores on August 21st and is available for pre-order now. It’s produced by Switch and makes dancey people lose their god damned minds.
I caught up with M.I.A. tonight for her first of two sold out L.A. dates. You can catch her tomorrow if you jostle a ticket on eBay or Craigslist (like I did tonight). After L.A. she moves on to Chicago, then Baltimore. There’s still dozens of dates around the world and you can see if she stops at your city on M.I.A.’s MySpace.
After connecting with Diplo on what came to be her first albums, ‘Piracy Funds Terrorism’ and ‘Arular’, she enlisted the other half of Hollertronix, Low Budget to be her ‘Kala’ tour DJ. M.I.A. is a smart cookie when it comes to choosing colaborators.
And interestingly, anyone buys her new CD single for ‘Boyz’, gets enhanced content including audio of ‘Boyz’ broken down into parts for D.I.Y. remixes. So get to it and send ‘em here (buy on Amazon)! Remixers and would-be remixers should check out our VST archive for some goodies.
First out of the gate with a really great ‘Boyz’ remix was German producer Kimono Cops who set the bar high:
But, my favorite new M.I.A. remix (of a 2005 track) right now comes from one of our favorite peoples, DJ LuvTek of Los Angeles, whom you might remember from his brilliantly mixed, ‘Do It at the Disco Mixtape‘ which we posted recently. Coincidentally, I checked out his weekly club, Genre for the first time tonight after the M.I.A. show and the shit was proper! Thurr were teenagers making out, gays giving each other hand jobs, stylish dudes, cute girls, drunk brawls and, of course, loud party music for loud party people. What more could you ask for? Seeing a dude get a glock 9mm put to his head while waking to your car afterward? Nope! Saw that too! Genre’s got it all! See wuz up every Monday night at Cinespace in Hollywood; Strictly for the 18+ set.
The tangent was for dramatic effect! Now, without mo’ adieu, hear the LuvTek remix of ‘URAQT’:
Combining elements of Brazilian baile funk, Miami bass, and very recognizable samples [Debbie Deb, Alice in Chains, Tone Loc, etc.], Bonde do Role’s debut album, ‘With Lasers’, does not strive to have a pretentious sound like many of todays hip new acts try to have. Rather, it’s just fun as hell (at times cheesy) dance music to shake your stanky ass to.
Stand out tracks include ‘Caminhao De Gas’, ‘Quero Te Amar’ and ‘Marina Do Bairro’. An album clocking in at just over half an hour, this is sure to get you worked up. Here’s an experiment: turn this on at a party. Make sure the bass is all the way up & If you and your friends aren’t drenched by the end of listening to this, then there’s probably something wrong with you guys.
