Risk One of the Bum Squad DJz is a top-shelf party-cracker with a turntablist background. Currently, homeboy is holding Seattle down on X104 FM with ‘The Leak’ program and doing grips of residencies.
Risk One hit us with his edits of M.I.A.’s ‘Bucky Done Gone’ and The Cool Kids‘ ‘Black Mags’ and that shit slayed me down!:
You can sample and purchase Risk One tracks on CrooklynClan.net and grab free mixes from his MySpace (I’m really feeling the Electro/Balle Funk mix called ‘Noc Noc Demo’. No tracklisting, so you’ll just have to trust me that you’ll love it. Download it direct, here).
Chi-town fam. The Cool Kids rocked the spot last week at Cafe Du Nord with Trackademicks, Starski & K.Flay. Theres a gaggle of pics over at Vaindeer.com. DJ Klever who reigns from the ATL has done gone and remixed the hell of Cool Kids’ instant hit ‘Gold And A Pager’.
The Cool Kids are unsigned but in talks with some of the best, like Fools Gold Rec’s. Big things are happening. Very cool indeed.
I’m excited for this. The homie Them Jeans, who we’ve already featured in this post, throws this weekly club in Hollywood and it’s always the heat—and that’s exactly why I’ve been there more Tuesdays over the last 3 years than I’ve not been there. You should go too if you’re able, like tonight. You can’t argue with the line up, and if you get there early there’s free booze it’s a breeze to get in. If you can’t make it, Trash Fashion is doing more Cali dates in San Diego and San Francisco before their return to their UK home. Dates and info for all these artists can be found in the links at the bottom.
And truth be told, I’m very obsessed with Does It Offend You, Yeah? (Good Weather for Airstrikes can bring you up to speed with their artist profile). Their essential “We Are Rockstars” has been a dance party requirement for months and months on end and we’re still not sick of it. Not even slightly.
If you want to be down with Cool Kids, then check out our Cool Kids post from last week.
If you want to be down with Steve Aoki a.k.a. Kid Millionaire a.k.a. owner of Dim Mak records a.k.a. half of Weird Science, you can check his MySpace or the Dim Mak site.
Visit Does It Offend You, Yeah? at MySpace and download their XFM Mix.
Visit Trash Fashion at MySpace and buy their Limited EP, “It’s a Rave Dave”
Visit Cook Kids at MySpace and say hi.
Visit Them Jeans at his official site and heckle him in the comments.
Cool Kids hail from Chicago, Illinoise & bring that old school rap style back to the forefront. Aside from recently making it on to URB magazine’s next top 1000 artist list, they are talking with several labels including Fool’s Gold (home of A-Trak & Kid Sister) but have yet to sign with anyone. So like their song says, I’m sure they got a little bit of gold & a pager.
Chris over at gorilla vs. bear posted their track ‘Mikey Rocks’ earlier this week.
Thanks Chris for keeping us point.
