London based producer/DJ Sinden, who is known for his genre-spanning mixes and dancefloor packing anthems, does it again with this brand new remix of electro darlings Crystal Castles‘ remix of noise-band HEALTH’s ‘Crimewave’. Ethan and Alice already danced up the original track but Sinden takes it to the next level perhaps spawning a new club anthem for the fall.
Be sure to check out Sinden’s remix of Björk’s Innocence in our previous post. If you live and play in the Bay Area, Sinden will be at Vessel SF on September 24th. Crystal Castles touch down Oct 29th and in November HEALTH graces us with their noisy presence. Mark them google calendars.
Buy Crystal Castles’ self-titled CD from insound. HEALTH’s self titled album can be procured from Lovepump Unilimted and check out Sinden productions in the iTunes store.
E’rybodys favorite electro thrashers, Crystal Castles, are hitting So. Cal. before taking an aeroplane to tour Europe. All this partying to promote their recent self-titled debut release. We’re stoked to have some some recent Crystal Castles tracks and remixes from L.A.’s LAZRtag (which is one part Luvtek, of ‘Do It At The Disco‘ mixtape fame and one part StellarDRV). LAZRtag have done nice ‘lectro’d up work of ‘Crimewave’, a track that can be fully credited to HEALTH and Crystal Castles as mash-up/remix, now remixed once again.
Sample this album cut, ‘Courtship Dating’, a track that we controversially linked to Timbaland’s ‘AYO Technology’ last September. I guess that’s old news by now, so we’ve brought that post back (no longer contraband, we hope). What do you think?
Above is a couple of our photos of Alice performing at the Neighborhood Music Festival in LA September 29th. Press passes are the new black. We have more, we’ll get them up soon. Anyways, enjoy this remix of Crystal Castles ‘Alice Practice’ by Londoners Futurecop!. This shit, like most of Futurecop!’s work is super duper trashed up to the max. Your parents will definitely think you’re on drugs. Enjoy the music &/or drugs.
This Saturday BigStereo & Mezzanine present Crystal Castles! Last time Crystal Castles came to town they were here it was in support of The Presets, this time the duo are the headliners. They are supported by Iheartcomix golden child, The Toxic Avenger! Also on the bill are SF’s own Lemonade & Off Campus. DJ sets by BigStereo writers Rchrd Oh?! and Miss Toats.
Shit will be off the chains! Get you tickets in advance from TicketWeb. Or if you like to live dangerously just show up to the Mezzanine Saturday night and pray to the 8-bit gods that there are still tickets left.
A reader brought it to our attention that hip hop producer Timothy “Timbaland” Mosley may have in fact illegally sampled Crystal Castles and used the material on 50 Cent’s latest single “She Wants It” featuring Justin Timberlake.
50 Cent - She Wants It
The Crystal Castles track which is believed to be sampled is an un-released song called “Courtship Dating”. Here is a clip of the Canadian duo performing it live in London in March of this year.

What do you guys think? Most people would say why would a mutli-million dollar producer sample from some low level indie-act. But, Timbaland has been introuble for sampling chiptune bands before. In 2006 he produced Nelly Furtado’s Album ‘Loose’ with the song ‘Do It ‘ on it which was ‘alleged’ to be stolen from Finnish producer Janne Suni. Timbaland adamantly denies sampling the musician, but this side by side comparison is pretty detrimental to his case.
Side by side comparison of Nelly Furtado’s ‘Do It’ vs Janne Suni’s ‘Acid Jazzed Evening’
Timabo went on a radio show where he was asked about the accusations and he explains his definition of ’stealing’ and ’sampling’. It’s pretty funny, check that out here. You could get lost for days in the amount of information and articles on the previous plagiarism charge, but this wikipedia article sums it up pretty well.
The boy/girl duo known as HEARTSREVOLUTION will take you over. Thrash pop punk with catchy hooks and mega dance beats that ain’t gonna let you stop. They just released 2 tracks both on vinyl only. One is a split 7″ w/ Crystal Castles on glow in the dark vinyl, limited to 350 copies and the other is a heart shaped white vinyl, also limited to 350 copies.
The duo operate their own pimped out ice cream truck called HEARTS CHALLENGER which showcases Lo & Ben’s favorite things like candy and toys, mixtapes, graffiti prints, limited edition sticker/button packs, t-shirts, records, toys, their own product line and tons of other amazing shit. The truck can be found at skate parks, art shows, in front of nightclubs, raves & concerts in LA and NYC.
Later this year HEARTSREVOLUTION will be touring in London and Tokyo with their ice cream truck in tow. And then returning to LA after the New year. All you party promoters out there hit them up and book some Cali shows! Preferably somewhere within driving distance of Missingtoof headquarters!
London’s Sohodolls are hot like fire! They’ve been on UK scene for a few years, but now they’re ready to go big and make an impression on the world with their upcoming debut album, ‘Ribbed Music for the Numb Generation’. The album will be released this September 10th, imprinted on Filthy Pretty Records, with production and mix-down by Robert Harder (producer of Whitey, Babyshambles and Ali Love, among others) and Steve Lyon (co-producer for Depeche Mode and The Cure, among others).
The fox with the tape-y nipple that you see above is Maya von Doll—writer and singer of Sohodolls. The tracks below span from 2005 to now, but some of the best songs are a slow burn before the inferno! I’m the kind of simp that falls in love with strippers, so the Sohodolls single, ‘Stripper’ is my jammy.
Here’s another good CC related track. Leif, half of Aries Noise and contributor at ChazBlog put together a little mash-up EP last month and it’s kinda fucking excellent. We posted a couple tracks before and told you where to grab the whole thing, but this mash-up of Crystal Castles and Aries Noise deserves more push:
If you are in New York and are reading this right now, I want you to stop, put on the same shit you wore last night, eat a mint & hail a taxi to We Are Your Friends & check out the Crystal Castles show. If you get a chance ask Alice if I can get her pager number.
We first heard about UK indie rockers ‘The Goodbooks’ due to Crystal Castles remix of their single ‘Leni’ which we immediately fell in love with. At first listen I thought to myself ‘Bloc Party 2?’, but upon further review of their material, specifically the new release ‘The Illness’ ep. it’s apparent that these boys have a lot to offer musically & should have no trouble shattering any comparisons to the larger act.
