Dieselboy- Substance D

dieselboy Dieselboy- Substance D

Riding on the coat-tails of Kittens‘ post on Photek, I couldn’t help but put something up about Dieselboy’s latest mix CD, ‘Substance D’, (A reference to Philip K. Dick’s novel, ‘A Scanner Darkly’) as I’ve been bumping this HARD in my car since its release a few months back.

A 2-disc compilation of unrelenting drum and bass not for the faint of heart, the first is a mix featuring the likes of Technical Itch, Evol Intent, SPKTRM, as well as remixes of MSTRKRFT & Computer Club. The second disc is unmixed.

This first track here is a fuckin’ SLAPPER. Knuckle up & jump up, you’re in for some shit. If you’re a DJ, the breakdown is perfect if you wanna transition your set into some electro or techno…

MP3: Dieselboy, Evol Intent & Ewun- Midnight Express

The first minute of this track is the calm before the storm, then the bassline hits and you know something isn’t right, something bad is gonna happen…soon…’Step up if you wanna get HURT!’

MP3: Friske & Perpetuum- Step Up

D-Styles: Phantazmagorea- Basura’s Pick of the Week

phant D-Styles: Phantazmagorea- Basuras Pick of the Week

Not intended to feature the latest music out there, my ‘Pick of the Week’ is to simply share & highlight music I personally enjoy regardless of timeframe. With so much music being put out everyday, especially independently, it’s quite easy to forget about the great releases that have withstood the test of time…

This weeks pick is D-Styles‘ album ‘Phantazmagorea’.

What makes ‘Phantazmagorea’ stand high above the rest of ’scratch’ based albums is that it was composed ENTIRELY from samples/scratches off of turntables, the very first of it’s kind. No computers, no samplers- just two turntables and a mixer and some basic effects.

D-Styles, like this album, is pure genius. Prepare for some jaw-dropping, face-melting good times as he astounds you with his technical skill & musicianship, scratching and sampling from the likes of cult-shock-punk rocker G.G. Allin, iconic American criminal Charles Manson, Bruce Lee, and many more.

Are you ready?

MP3: D-Styles: The Murder Faktory

MP3: D-Styles: Diabolikal

A former member of pioneering DJ crews Invisibl Skratch Piklz and the World Famous Beat Junkies, D-Styles is now a resident at weekly party Low End Theory in LA, which has an amazing resident lineup that includes super producers Nobody and Daddy Kev, as well as legendary artist Mear One, while electronic musician Eliot Lipp holds it down for Low End Theory NYC.

Show D-Styles some love. Buy this album and other releases at your local independent record store.

BSBTRGDCLUB- ‘Short Dick Man’ Remix Exclusive + ‘Need Food’ Mix

bclub BSBTRGDCLUB- Short Dick Man Remix Exclusive + Need Food Mix

The ‘BACKSTREETBOYSTOTALRUDEGHETTODANCINGCLUB‘, or ‘BSBTRGDCLUB’ for short, are Propro and Jillijill from Montreal. Though quite new to producing music and DJing, they have done their share of remixes, including one for Baille funk greats Bonde do Role and have many more in the works.

You may be asking, ‘What’s with the ridiculously long name anyway?’ Here’s what they say about that:

The concept of the name is that we want to keep producing and DJing…but if we go commercial or mainstream, people would most likely not be able to pronounce or remember our name. It’s like hiding our faces/identity with a mask, sort of like ‘anti-marketing’.

If that idea works or not we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, enjoy this Missingtoof exclusive.
