Dizzee Rascal: ‘Sirens’ remixes from Acid Girls & El-P

dizzeerascal Dizzee Rascal: Sirens remixes from Acid Girls & El P

Londoner and rap champion, Dizzee Rascal has a Mercury Music Prize collecting dust, garnered after his 2003 debut ‘Boy in da Corner’ got international attention for its clever blend of UK garage beats and hip hop grime vocals (at the just 19 years of age). But since then it’s been a bit quiet—at least in the US—Dizzee’s 2004′ follow-up ‘Showtime’ and 2007’s ‘Maths+English’ placed on the UK charts at #7 & #8, respectively, but the states never saw a proper release from the Dizzee boy. Until now—enter heroic hip-hop label Definitive Jux to pump some new life into the latest ‘Maths+English’, which is given a deserved US release slated for April 29th.

To get you all excited, we have a small handful of remixes by bloggers-gone-big-league, Acid Girls (whom a little bird told me have completed their first original production with Frankmusik vocals and it’s bananas!) and Def Jux ringleader El-P.

El-P + insert_whoever = Awesome: A case study

Exhibit A (above):

El-P + Trent Reznor + [adult swim] = WOW NEAT.

Just so we’re clear, that’s El-P’s new single entitled Flyentology from his new “I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead” LP. The song features Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and the video is produced by, and debuted on, Adult Swim. WOW NEAT, right? On the album there are more awe-inspiring genre-mashing colabo tracks with The Mars Volta and Cat Power which all add up to the same thing, you know by now.

Exhibit B:

Add another layer of Cassette’s Won’t Listen remix!

El-P + Trent Reznor + Cassettes Won’t Listen = WOW NEAT redux.

Exhibit C (for further study):

More proof that EL-P plays well with others in the form of an old Head Automatica (i.e. good Head Automatica, when Dan the Automator was producer) B-side from their first single, “Beating Heart Baby”.

El-P drops one soon.

el p1 El P drops one soon.

El-P’s new album ‘I’ll Sleep When Your Dead’ drops soon. I’m hoping it will be as legendary as Fantastic Damage. That album was on super duper mad repeat the summer of 2002. In my opinion F.D. was El-P’s best work since Funcrusher Plus.

Tracks from the new album were posted on My Old Kentucky Blog & So Much Silence.

All this inter-talk of new El-P albums made me dig some old albums out of the archives & reminisce.
El-P – Deep Space 9mm

Also, while we’re reminiscing, anyone remember the beef between El-P & Anticon member Sole circa 2000? Sole was just putting out his first albums & thought it would be a good idea to go on record & diss El-P on the track “Dear Elpee”. El-P writes his rebuttal & releases it on Mr. Len’s Class-X (Tribute To Company Flow) & hilarity ensues.

Listen to Sole’s Track:
Sole – Dear Elpee

And then listen to El-P’s track complete with recorded phone conversation between Sole & El Producto himself. He totally rips the young buck a new one.
