Bearries!

brsk Bearries!

Bearries, an experimental electro-dance outfit out of Chicago, make exciting live-electronics based music that is refreshing to the ear, and I can only imagine how they must sound live. Based on some of the footage and pictures I’ve seen on their Myspace page, I’m sure they put on a hell of a show.

There’s just something about seeing electronic musicians live on synths and drum machines, twiddling knobs and pushing buttons on actual pieces of equipment that make a performance that much better than just say, seeing someone in front of a glowing laptop like they’re checking mail in front of an audience (No disrespect to anyone btw, it’s just more fun watching shows when musicians use real music equipment!!!)

Bands of the past like Throbbing Gristle and Kraftwerk (both of which I’ve never seen, to my dismay) to newer acts like Wolf Eyes, Meat Beat Manifesto, Solvent, and Adult. (all of which I have seen) do this well, inviting the audience to a more intimate and personal performance with every sound they command out of their machines, and in a way it seems Bearries do this well too… if you ever get a chance to see them live, do so!

Here are two of their tracks, both almost around ten minutes each. These are amazing electronic excursions! Enjoy!

Au Revoir Simone - Lark (Ruff and Jam remix)

au_revoir_simone Au Revoir Simone - Lark (Ruff and Jam remix)

Grammy nominated producers Jean-Marie Moens and Luke Mourinet collectively know as Ruff and Jam have been in the game since 2002 and have done official remixes for the likes of Kylie Minogue, The Killers, Sia, Amy Winehouse, Tiga and more. The duo has now worked over blog towns favorite trio of ladies Au Revoir Simone’s ‘Lark’ which is off their 2007 album titled ‘The Bird Of Music’. The remix isn’t what you call a dancefloor banger but it’s just as sexy and sentimental as the original.

And whilst we’re on the subject of Au Revoir Simone and remixes, I know you all remember the rework of ‘Fallen Snow’ by The Teenangers. which we’ll post it again for nostalgia’s sake.

Will Bailey (formerly of Twocker) remixes Pharoahe Monch’s ‘Simon Says’

Birmingham, UK has a powerhouse of sound in Will Bailey (a.k.a. Rudi Stakker). Formerly half of short-lived fidget outfit Twocker (with Calvertron), and owner of startup label Simma, Will Bailey makes world-renowned tracks in the emerging fidget house sub-genre. It’s something that sounds a bit of UK garage, electro house, drum’n'bass and breakbeat thrown in a martini shaker and poured over a 4/4 time signature (don’t forget the olive). Will Bailey shares the Fidget umbrella with the likes of Crookers, Stupid Fresh & Mickey Slim, just to name a few.

Just in, Will Bailey has shared with us his throbbing remix of Southside Queens hip-hop hero, Pharoahe Monch (who you know we got love for, peep the profile of Monch & his former group, Organized Konfusion in this post from last year). This is perhaps taking a cue from the electro-minded remix by Edinbergh’s Hostage. If you’ve heard ‘em all, how’s this compare? I think this is huge:

MP3: Pharoahe Monch - Simon Says (Will Bailey Remix)

Here’s another Will Bailey banger with additional production from fellow Birmingham “producer/engineer/DJ” Mikey Hook, he’s not much older than seventeen and already smashing tracks with the big boys.

MP3: Will Bailey & Mikey Hook - Cross The Trax

And for good measure, here’s that Twocker sound that you’ve grown to love (or you should have). It’s a remix of their only original single (with the exception of the ‘Chopper’ B-side) as remixed by other major fidget playboys, Sydney’s Bass Kleph. Love teh wonk:

MP3: Twocker - Stitch (Bass Kleph Remix)

And yo, we ain’t even finished yet! To match the exclusive remix at the top, here’s a mix to match. Recorded hot on the heels of Will Bailey’s recent gig trip to L.A. to play Nocturnal Wonderland. California love:

Tracklist:

  1. AC Slater - Jack Got Jacked (Jackbeats Remix) (Will Bailey Into Remix)
  2. The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up (Bass Weazal Remix)
  3. How You Like Me Now [Rico Tubbs VIP Remix)
  4. Lee Mortimer - Putto
  5. Idiot - Gorilla (Lee Moritmer Remix
  6. Mighty Fools - Hey Babe
  7. Bass Weazal - Jungle massive
  8. DJ Deekline - Don't Smoke da Reefer (Twocker Remix)
  9. Leon Jean Marie - Bring It On (Jack Beats Remix)
  10. Blatta & Inesha - Blow Up (Hijack Remix
  11. Twocker - Sugar Daddy
  12. Pharoahe Monch - Simon Says (Will Bailey & Mikey Hook Remix)
  13. Speaker Junk - Through the Keyhole

MP3: Will Bailey - Will Bailey Loves California (Mix Session 09-16-08) [60:44 | 139mb]

In the mix the Pharoahe Monch track is credited to both Will Bailey & Mikey Hook. I dunno what givz thurr. Whatevs! Twocker, although “broken up”, are going on a Australian tour through early October. Will Bailey goes on to Canadian dates late October through November 1st. Then it’s back to the home country for more UK TLC. Full dates and details on Will Bailey’s MySpace page.

Le Castle Vania remixes Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Zero’ into ‘Zero Machine’

lecastlevania Le Castle Vania remixes Smashing Pumpkins Zero into Zero MachineDesign Credit: Electrik Suicide

ATL come L.A. DJ/Producer Le Castle Vania has earned a reputation for whipping crowds into a frenzy, no doubt aided by this staple of his sets, the hard-as-fucking-nails electro track, ‘Zero Machine’ that samples (or remixes, if you prefer) the alternative gods, The Smashing Pumpkins, classic, ‘Zero’. If last year was all about Mr. Oizo’s RATM remix (or was it, Patrick Alavi’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ (here) remix instead?), this year is all about:

MP3: Le Castle Vania - Zero Machine

Also new in the Le Castle Vania repository is this collaboration with Birmingham (but soon to be L.A.) party monster, Computer Club. Computer Club shot this over to us before his recent string of L.A. dates, including Nocuturnal Wonderland (where he straight murdered it). Nod to event coordinators like Insomniac who have, in the last year, let this indie-electro-blog-house thing get a massive stage of their own and fill it with global players. It’s fun to be along for the ride as a genre goes from fledgling to full-fledged—But I digress… Here’s Le Castle Vania & Computer Club:

MP3: Le Castle Vania & Computer Club - The Messiah

MP3: Le Castle Vania & Computer Club - The Messiah (Radio Edit)

Yo, so why’s it called ‘The Messiah’ (Besides the potentially obvious, it being a straight-up cover of Renegade Hardware junglist, Konflict’s 2000 track, ‘Messiah’), here’s one you might not know, from way back to 2003, when Le Castle Vania was Messiah-1, drum’n'bass producer and operator of his own short-lived label Negaverse Recordings. The release is a tune is ‘Relic’ which got a properly massive remix by L.A.’s Gridlok and the original ‘Red Dust’. Strictly jungle (the crazy bass drops are all about half-way in):

MP3: Messiah 1 - Relic (Gridlok Remix)

MP3: Messiah 1 - Red Dust

Boh! If you love it, know that we love it too. If you don’t, go kick rocks. Or, maybe give this other contemporary Le Castle Vania a try, as remixed by L.A.’s top-shelf’s LA Riots:

Codebreaker - Fire (featuring Kathy Diamond)

codebreaker Codebreaker - Fire (featuring Kathy Diamond)

Milwaukee duo Codebreaker has been funking up and down the west, gaining fans everywhere they go. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Hot Chip, Datarock, Chromeo, The Silverspun Pickups, Har Mar Superstar, The Electric Six & more.

The band just released a new double single on Disco Demolition Records. The single ‘Fire’ features UK disco singer/songwriter Kathy Diamond on vocals.

MP3: Codebreaker - Fire (featuring Kathy Diamond)

Codebreaker definitely likes to keep it funky and seems to be taking a few cues from Parliament & Funkadelic as shown in their previous single ‘Exiled’. The remix by Miami Horror is amazing to say the least.

MP3:  Codebreaker - Exiled (MIAMI HORROR remix)

The singles are currently available on all major digital outlets all across the globe including iTunes & Amazon.

The 12″ vinyl version will be available October 7th exclusively through Groove Distribution and all fine record stores throughout Europe. The boys will be announcing October/November tour dates soon. Keep an eye on their Myspace page for show dates and new funktastic tunes.
