Dan Sena: ‘Panther’ plus remixes of Scanners & Yeah Yeah Yeahs

O.C.’s Dan Sena, former hardcore vocalist in Bullet Train to Vegas, Dim Mak alumni and lynch-pin in the Orange County dance music scene with Busywork (which, was run and residented alongside our buddy and featured artist, Clifford Lidell—formerly CASIO), has something for you to hear under a discoball.

We’ve got a couple fresh Dan Sena tracks. The first and original ditty with a disco-house vibe and some electro-house “oomph” titled ‘Panther’ that makes a brother just wanna move. Uncleared samples for some unclean dancing(!), just as the music gods—in all their purple crushed velvet glory—have intended.

Next up, a remix for Dim Mak’s Scanners which was released as a single December 8th with this Dan Sena remix alongside mixes by Tittsworth, Don Diablo and Dirty Disco Youth. The Scanners always remind me of the David Cronenberg’s 1981 flick of the same name (IMDb). There’s a scene in it that resembles what listening to these Dan Sena tunes looks like and it goes like this.

One more for good measure, because Yeah Yeah Yeah’s ‘Heads Will Roll’ is, like, song of the year, and this is a pretty good mixdown.

Dan Sena’s upcoming EP, ‘AYEMGEE’, will be out in 2010. Eyes peeled. ‘Panther’ is likely to prowl it’s way on it.

Also, keep ‘em peeled for a party Missingtoof is supporting with Dan Sena and our UK homie Sharooz in January at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, O.C. Keep lurking for details.

Flairs: Trucker’s Delight

Flairs, or Lionel Flairs, is one of my favorite type of geezers—talented & good humored. He reps the Staines & Soho London ‘hoods as well as neighboring dance music epicenter gay Paris (he’s a born Frenchman). He makes smooth indie-dance tunes that delight the blog world (Ohh Crapp & 20Jazzfunkgreats a.k.a. your favorite blog’s favorite blog) & find their way onto mixes of tastemaking DJs like Soulwax, who championed Flairs, dropped the little ditty ‘Trucker’s Delight’ into their Essential Mix for Pete Tong’s BBC Radio1 program just after its release last year (See the tracklisting and grab the mix), and also on last Decembers end-of-year Mixmag compilation (Aptly titled ‘Part of NYE Never Dies’).

Boom; a year later. Our buddy TADT linked us to the cute little video you see above, just moments after French label Third Side plopped it on their YouTube channel (good things travel fast). Now about 24 hours later, we’ve watched it what probably totals 24 times, and total views are surely the better part of a 100k. If you watch, you’ll know why: Sprite tits, stellar colonic flight and 18-wheelers! Trucker’s delight indeed! It’s the inspired work of Jérémie Perin under the wing of design agency Premiere Heure. This even surpasses Flairs last video, ‘Better Than Prince’, which enlisted the creative help of Jonas & Francios to produce a unique animation of whole ‘nother variety (watch ‘Better Than Prince’ on YouTube).

Flairs released a promotional ‘Better Than Price’ in 2008 with ‘Trucker’s Delight’ as the B-side. A winning pair.

Additionally, some good remix have come from singles of tunes culled from his recent LP effort ‘Sweat Symphony’ (pun intended). Mixed down by Alex Gopher, who is also a the remix producer of the mix below (Flairs has recently remixed Gopher’s ‘The Game’ in trade). More solid remixes of singles include work from: Benjamin Theves, Patrick Alavi / roXour, Bitchee YaYaYa, WZRDS, Be-Noizy, 25 Hours A Day; And these, from Lithuania electro badman Metal on Metal & Ontario’s disco-funksters Alixander III.

Steed Lord – Royal Ruffian (LAZRtag Remix) & Kosher Management Showcase

steedlord Steed Lord Royal Ruffian (LAZRtag Remix) & Kosher Management Showcase

Iceland’s Steed Lord have big plans: A massive remix record that reworks the tracks of their release from late ‘08, ‘Truth Serum’. A record which produced some cool ditties like the original ‘New Crack City’ (video on Vimeo).

The remixes are part of the appropriately titled ‘The Truth Serum Remix Project’, which will be dropping this October on New Crack City Records (via Last Gang). For ‘The Truth Serum Remix Project’, in addition to Steed Lord remixing their own tunes, they’ve enlisted some major talent to help rework their music, such as, Crookers, DJ Mehdi, Mercury, Jack Beats, Sharkslayer, Russ Chimes, Hot Pink Delorean, Mustard Pimp, Tommie Sunshine, Klever, Nic Sarno, DJ Barletta, Vyle & that ain’t even the whole rollcall! Also on this crazy laundry list of talent is L.A. hometown hero’s LAZRtag who we’ve made you well aware. Yo dog, you herd it here first:

We’re incahoots with the MediaContender blog, who are debuting another remix from ‘The Truth Serum Remix Project’. The mix comes from Missingtoof alum and Philly-come-LA representative, Nate Day. Hear and download the ‘Bucket of Blood (Nate Day Remix)’ at MediaContender.

The Icelandic foursome Steed Lord have a new stateside stronghold in Los Angeles. To make their presence felt they’re bombing up Cali, starting with the Missingtoof approved Kosher Management Party, which will take place at Roxy on Sunset in West Hollywood, this upcoming Monday, September 28th. Full details and RSVP at Facebook. The show will feature Kosher Management artists Steed Lord and our boys Villains (who are making new great things on new horizons). Pre-sale tickets are available, but I’d just hit the door early ‘cuz it’s ticketbastard.

Self-described “whacky french fu**ers”, Stereo Heroes, make a some big tunes that are wacky, but far from wack. We’ve threw our support behind the team from the onset and they’ve gone on to grace the blogosphere with many a banger. The Stereo Heroes got back to us with this remix befitting of a debut on this Cali-based blog, a remix of California punk staples The Offspring. It’s a remix of the band’s punchy 1994 hit ‘Come Out And Play (Keep ‘em Separated)’. If you know or u don’t, get acquainted with the original track on YouTube. This is electro-punk as it gets & it’s ass-kickin’, broham!

It’s always nice when things we like collide! This is like some MFin’ rainbow sprinkles & butterscotch on my strawberry frogurt right here!

What it is, is, N.Y. posse, Leif (once PalmsOut representer) doing a workover of Glass Candy’s homage to 5th Ward gangsters, Geto Boys, on the track, ‘Geto Boys’. It’s got that Geto Boys ‘Mind Playin’ Tricks on Me’ sample that’s forever fresh.

And since we haven’t had a wholly Leif-centric post since his ‘Flossy Bounce’ EP years ago, let’s keep good ch00nz coming with these: The track ‘Black Magic’ & remixes from last year’s ‘Black Magic Promo EP’. Nice work in the original & in the remixes from Swedish houser The Touch with the haunting vocals of Swedish singer Lina and the other from fellow New Yorkers, Stay High that takes a fidget/dubstepped approach.

Keeping the good stuff coming, I must say I’m quite partial to this cover of Stockholm’s finest siren, Lykke Li. Leif’s voice is so far apart from Lykke Li’s—& the vibe is so different—yet it works just the same. An interesting take:

Tigersapien with remixes by Kolt13 & Designer Drugs

Four man, Philly meets N.Y.C. crew, Tigersapien, have a sexy sleazy tune in ‘God Knows’. The sacrilege is awesome, and so is the supreme remix production of Parisian producer Kolt13. Tigersapien’s vocals are admittedly on the emo-pop tip with a hint of whine (in the best of ways, like, say, The Faint), but I love the cockiness of it all, and I’ll tell you what, my lady friends do too! Their crossover appeal is high and the “band to watch” label is already being thrown around the blogosphere quite a bit. Enjoy this dirty love song about the truths of “hookin’ up”. This one is for you boo.

The originals above are just a pinch of hottness taken from their EP released in January. The EP is for sale on iTunes and well worth yr duckets. And, I do believe these boys have a winning gimmick, wearing fuzzy tiger heads for press shots. I hope they sound as good live and keep the tiger head and champagne pourin’ on tits image rollin’ along.

Before we go, let’s bring the focus back to producer Kolt13, who’s intricate production values are producing some extraordinary things for not only Tigersapien, but others, including this rework of up and coming hip-hop super-producers, Ohio’s The Kickdrums.

Miss Kittin & The Hacker: ‘PPPO’ & ‘Party In My Head’ from sophmore record ‘Two’ / Mix

misskittinhacker Miss Kittin & The Hacker: PPPO & Party In My Head from sophmore record Two / Mix

Mark your calendars for what will be a joyous day, when the forces of Frenchmen (and Frenchwoman) The Hacker and Miss Kittin come together once more! Collectively known as Miss Kittin & The Hacker, the pair have released EPs periodically since 1996, however it was their 2001 full length, the descriptively titled, ‘First Album’ that sank and arrow into the hearts of so many techno fans! That sexy techno record (which some even called ‘electroclash’, but, hey, what’s in a name anyway?), released on DJ Hell’s reputable International DJ Gigolos, held us over for years nearly a decade, with a support from new EP releases over the years, but now, yes now, we will finally have a second full length to adore! Following the trend, the new record is titled ‘Two’ and we can expect it to be on sale April 20th! This record will be released on Kittin’s own fledgling imprint Nobody’s Bizzness (which also released her solo ‘Batbox’ last year, blog ‘d here). Yay! Here’s a sample of what’s in store!

Yes, you heard right, bloody Elvis freakin’ Presley meets techno diva. Holy smokes. Now while that’s novel and good, this track other track gets stuck in my head a little more. Let’s party, my skull or yours:

Yazoo: ‘Situation (Cory Enemy & Skreach Remix)’ + Hollertronix & Housemaniac mixes

yazoo Yazoo: Situation (Cory Enemy & Skreach Remix) + Hollertronix & Housemaniac mixes

Yazoo (or just ‘Yaz’ to us Yanks) was a British new wave group born in 1982 and laid to rest in ‘83—short lived, with only to albums, but with a lasting legacy. Built from equal parts of former Depeche Mode songwriter, Vince Clarke on keys and English singer Alison Moyet doing vocals, this group left their mark on many a band as well as young remixers, the L.A. to ATL transplants, Cory Nitta a.k.a. Cory Enemy of Pink Enemy and Skreach, who have taken the B-side, ‘Situation’ (a popular track in its own right), from Yaz’s ‘82 single, ‘Only You’, have cut it up for the clubbbb. It’s a little bit electro with with a dubstep break in the middle. Is this a new trend? Following the After Midnight tune posted earlier this week which also had the electro/dubstep/electro switch up. If that’s the trend, I sure ain’t mad at it!

Yazoo has remained current over the last three decades with remixes from a slew of producers and mash-up DJs. In addition to a notable remix from Hercules Love Affair last year, Yazoo found themselves on the 2006 Hollertronix (a.k.a. Diplo & Low Bee) release #6 with a ‘Don’t Go’ Bmore cut redubbed ‘Don’t Go Snitchin”. Also, the track above is gunning for my favorite mix of ‘Situation’, knocking this heavy house remix from a mysterious UK white label bootleg record, dubbed ‘Housemaniac 2008 Remix’ from #1:

We’re fans and friends of L.A.’s After Midnight. They are house-rooted DJ Farron and former-Villain, Philthy B. We’ve had the pleasure of introducing them last year and are down for what they’re cookin’ up now.

What they’re cookin’ is an official remix for South Side Chicago’s Club District Allstars‘ ‘Change’, released on Textrue Recordings. Club District Allstars is the collaborative forces of major house hero CZR, protégé Vince Melo & Malik (a.k.a. one-half of The Outhere Brothers. Wow. Boom Boom anyone?). This will house you!

Also on deck, we’ve got some tasty bootlegs. First up, Rockwell’s 1984 spooky-yet-poppy r&b jam ‘Somebody’s Watching Me’, featuring an at-prime Michael Jackson. Forever epic! Peep the original video on YouTube. The After Midnight boys give it that Jenny Jones makeover that take it from ’80s electro-pop to to modern electro to dubstep and back again. This shit is ‘ard.

Bootleg #2, is not second in quality or importance—it is an equally tasty remix of M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade’s sensual, mnml, house track, ‘Body Language’. Here After Midnight shows their diversity with a little excursion in dub.
