Goblin: The sound of 70s Italian horror & Justice’s Phan†om

Goblin - Tenebre (Main Theme) [1982]

Goblin are the sound of Italian horror films. I watch a lot of the genre and yesterday while fixing up after a birthday hangover, I popped in Italian horror legend Dario Argento’s Tenebre. Everything about it is good, but our focus here is music and I was reminded that I need to do proper little tribute to the composers of Tenebre and so many other great films: Goblin.

To start, some might not know Goblin’s name, but might recognize their impact on contemporary electronic music in the form of Justice’s Phan†om, which borrows heavily from Tenebre’s main theme. All it takes is a simple side by side comparison:

Sampling is the life blood of so much music. Here are some more amazing Goblin tracks just waiting to be remixed, re-fixed, butchered and mashed. See if you’re up to the challenge! Not that they’re not absolutely perfect they way they are. Enjoy a pair of the best themes from a pair of the best Italian horror movies ever:

MP3: Goblin - Suspiria (Main Title) (1977)
from Dario Argento’s Suspiria (buy)

MP3: Goblin - Zombi: L’Alba Dei Morti Viventi (1979)
from Lucio Fulci’s Zombi 2 (buy)

This is just a small sample of what they’ve done early in their career which hasn’t quit yet. If you like what you hear, then buy Goblin CDs from Amazon.

You can also sample and purchase a la carte MP3s all from their official MySpace and discuss how much you love them at the MySpace group in their honor.

Tenebre (the film) is easy to find in Europe, however, it is out of print in the US, but you can still buy it from Amazon Resellers. Also highly recommended are these films if you want to go on a well-scored gore binge.
