Hollertronix 10: The Partysquad – ‘Murderer (Diplo & JAYOU Remix)’ + more JAYOU Remixes

hollertronix Hollertronix 10: The Partysquad – Murderer (Diplo & JAYOU Remix) + more JAYOU Remixes

R.I.P. Hollertronix series, that club staple borne in Philly by Diplo and Low B that, in its lifetime, has seen the pair rise from small time basement collaborators and underground party hustlers to major label players and arena rockers. It helped introduced the world to Bmore and Balie Funk music and let DJs know it was okay to embrace a pluralistic club experience where it’s more than okay to crunch up a set with indie, hip hop and dance music. The seeds of Hollertronix are sown, but now they’ve grown, with the departure of Low B, Diplo has nursed the growth into the full-fledged Mad Decent label under Universal’s Downtown Records umbrella.

The last word from Hollertronix is this, a four-track banger from Amsterdam’s The Partysquad, which is the ‘Hollertronix 10′ 12-inch. It includes potential future classics: ‘Pull Up’, ‘CrazyFunkyStyle’, ‘Murderer’ & ‘Rage’.

To whet or appetites (for destruction), Diplo and English dubstep collaborator JAYOU, have given us a dubstep rendition of B1, ‘Murderer’ with that Barrington Levy vibe.

Cop Hollertronix 10 & other ‘tronix still in print through the usual avenues: Turntable Lab, Beatport, iTunes and Bluecollardistro which packs wax, now shipping.

I’d like to note that, in collaborative efforts, it’s always hard to determine who exerted more influence. While it is likely you are familiar with Diplo, you are likely unfamiliar with JAYOU, but I’d like to say, this kid can hold his own weight, stacking up heavy tracks over the past year, including these, which weigh the most:

Yazoo: ‘Situation (Cory Enemy & Skreach Remix)’ + Hollertronix & Housemaniac mixes

yazoo Yazoo: Situation (Cory Enemy & Skreach Remix) + Hollertronix & Housemaniac mixes

Yazoo (or just ‘Yaz’ to us Yanks) was a British new wave group born in 1982 and laid to rest in ‘83—short lived, with only to albums, but with a lasting legacy. Built from equal parts of former Depeche Mode songwriter, Vince Clarke on keys and English singer Alison Moyet doing vocals, this group left their mark on many a band as well as young remixers, the L.A. to ATL transplants, Cory Nitta a.k.a. Cory Enemy of Pink Enemy and Skreach, who have taken the B-side, ‘Situation’ (a popular track in its own right), from Yaz’s ‘82 single, ‘Only You’, have cut it up for the clubbbb. It’s a little bit electro with with a dubstep break in the middle. Is this a new trend? Following the After Midnight tune posted earlier this week which also had the electro/dubstep/electro switch up. If that’s the trend, I sure ain’t mad at it!

MP3: Yaz – Situation (Cory Enemy & Skreach RMX)
[ 11mb | 320kbps cbr | 4:38 | BPM: 128 ]

Yazoo has remained current over the last three decades with remixes from a slew of producers and mash-up DJs. In addition to a notable remix from Hercules Love Affair last year, Yazoo found themselves on the 2006 Hollertronix (a.k.a. Diplo & Low Bee) release #6 with a ‘Don’t Go’ Bmore cut redubbed ‘Don’t Go Snitchin”. Also, the track above is gunning for my favorite mix of ‘Situation’, knocking this heavy house remix from a mysterious UK white label bootleg record, dubbed ‘Housemaniac 2008 Remix’ from #1:

Turntable Lab L.A. celebrates their 1st year

It’s been one year since Turntable Lab set up shop in L.A. and to celebrate, they’re throwing their biggest party yet—so big, in fact, it’s two parties stretched across tonight and tomorrow.

On the bill tonight we have Hollertronix (i.e. Diplo and Low Bee) and Blaqstarr at the 700 capacity EX_PLX in Echo Park (L.A.). This is likely to sell out quick, trust!

Here’s a jammy from Hollertronix’ first EP in 2004. This shit set that whole shit off:

MP3: Hollertronix – David Banner vs Lil Flip vs Eurythmics – We Bout Our Money vs Sweet Dreams

This vinyl EP has been re-released in slightly altered form (dubbed #1.5 EP) and is available now from Turntable Lab.

Oh yea, if you didn’t know by now. All the Mad Decent (label related to Diplo and Hollertronix) podcasts are available for stream (and download) from Diplo’s .mac account. However, it looks like the account has hit its bandwidth limit for the moment, so you’ll definitely want to bookmark it, check back often and get e’ything when it’s live again.

We’ll still hook you up tho! Last March, DJ Blaqqstar (preforming in L.A. tonight) dropped a mix for Mad Decent Radio Worldwide and it’s hot fire. Dude must DJ with oven-mitts on:

Yes! And on Saturday, Electro legend Egyptian Lover will be doing his stuff extra smooth for the ladies to shake it. One of the few people from L.A. doing Electro Dance Music in the 1980’s, our city’s got mad love for Lover. If you’re not up on this man, look to Wikipedia and throw this 1984 classic in heavy rotation:

Diplo – Dont Go Snitchin’

holler6 Diplo Dont Go Snitchin

Hollertronix released their latest disc last December, #6. You know the drill by now. Diplo & Lowbudget mashin’ hard down Remix boulevard in a beat up car. These two beat junkies are veritable mash up maestros blending two, three, twenty songs into audio orgasms.

Tracks:
1. Scotty B & King Tut – The Almighty Simon Joint
2. Diplo – Don’t Go Snitchin
3. DJ Tameil – Trans Newark Express
4. Say Wut – Bueller Theme
5. Diplo – The Scrappy Chief

All the tracks are heaters but my fave is Diplo’s version of Yaz’s ‘Dont Go’.

Diplo – Don’t Go Snitchin’

This is a vinyl rip to whet your whistle. My needles are older than my mom so it might sound decent on your pc speakers but if you wanna throw this in your set you’ll have to drop some duckits for the real deal. I got my copy for 7 bones at On The Corner Music. If you’re not in the area Turntable Lab has your back.

Hollertronix on the innerneck.
