Welcome to the gifted class, True Pseudo, the new class clown with the oxymoronic name.

The True Pseudo crew consists of Infiltrata, Flinch & SERG—each established and still quite active solo drum & bass DJ/producers going B2B2B for some electro’d up original bangers.

Klaxons – As Above, So Below (Justice remix) REVISITED

klax Klaxons As Above, So Below (Justice remix) REVISITED

We posted the undeniably good Justice remix of Klaxons ‘As Above, So Below’ last week, but remember I said it reminded me of Michael McDonald for some reason. Well, it finally dawned on me that Justice must’ve have been listening to a lot of the Doobie Brothers at the time of making the remix. Listen to the Justice remix and then The Doobies 1978 hit ‘What A Fool Believes’ and you decide.

Klaxons – As Above, So Below (Justice remix)

klaxons Klaxons As Above, So Below (Justice remix)

Too good to be true? Probably but, it has happened; UK indie rockers Klaxons have been remixed by Parisian electro producers Justice and the result is this swoon worthy track which would be criminal not to post. Listening to it I can’t help think of Michael McDonald and the old sound is proof that we still have much to learn from decades past.

Under the covers 2

under the covers Under the covers 2

Had a fantastic weekend, how about y’all? We caught the Crystal Castles show at the Mezzanine this Saturday and, damn. They sound even more amazing live than their studio recordings. The Toxic Avenger, Frankie Chan, Lemonade & Richard Oh?! and Miss Toats held down the rest of the evening superbly.

The good times came to a screeching halt when the alarm clock went off this morning. I rolled out of bed, grabbed the first pair of slacks I could find on the floor and stumbled in to the office today. I am currently sitting at my desk crying on the inside. The voicemail light is flashing and my outlook inbox is full of unread items which I’m desperately trying to avoid. God, I wish I was still at home under the covers. Here’s some covers of a different kind that I wish we could all cuddle together underneath, but responsibility calls.

Ed Banger Hollywood house party re-cap

edbanger Ed Banger Hollywood house party re cap

Sooo, there was a little secret Ed Banger party in West Hollywood tonight at the infamous Viper Room, courtesy of Scion and Vice. In addition to Busy P, Kavinsky and SebastiAn, Justice decided to make an unannounced appearance, which is always nice. Thanks to Busy P for flying the boys in between their gig in Japan and their gig in Finland! With so much of the Ed Banger roster in the house they made it a fun rotation—DJing their signature sound with their tried and true CDJ setup.

Our boy C-Town also DJ’d the opening slot—just after conducting interviews with the Ed Banger gang. The transcription of that meeting is sure to show up in his little monthly rag called, Anthem Magazine. Just like his recent cover-story interview with Daft Punk that’s on news stands now in the current issue (with a Daft Punk photography spread shot by Hedi Slimane, which is breathtaking).

This right here is a music blog so let’s have some music! We love Edward Banger. We’re so friendly we call ‘em Ed. You like remixes, let’s do this! Tracks from Revl9n, Klaxons, Justin Timberlake & DJ Hell.

New Rave Vs Nintendo Core

powerglove New Rave Vs Nintendo Core

This year New Rave is all the rage amongst show going teens. But a few years back there was a similar musical movement called ‘Nintendo Core’. There are obvious differences between New Rave & Nintendo Core, but there are similarities as well. Most notably the indie/rock based roots. Both are dance-able by certain standards. Both usually have songs about fantastical subject matter & inspire neon clad youngsters to gyrate wildly. But why didn’t the earlier genre catch on as much as it’s younger sibling?

Possibly because Nintendo Core wasn’t an NME backed genre but more likely because Nintendo Core songs weren’t exactly club friendly like it’s New Rave counterparts are.

HORSE The Band were the ones credited with creating the ‘Nintendo Core’ genre. Their first CD entitled R. Borlax was released in 2003. ‘Scissors on his fucking head’ is the chorus to the song ‘Cutsman’ which is undoubtedly about one of the bosses on Megaman 2.

An Albatross is another notable band that was labeled ‘Nintendo core’ around that time. A tad more dancey than Horse The Band but still a lot harder for some to digest than say, Klaxons

An Albatross has released a 7″ split with XBXRX & three full length albums which are availble here. An Albatross is currently touring in Europe. Check their myspace page for details.

I know these Klaxons tracks have been posted before, but I listen to these on the daily. I have to share these with anyone who might’ve missed them before. The first is a Crystal Castles remix & the second is Third Eye Mafia’s rework which gets very early Prodigy-ish towards the end.
