Party alert for all you NYCer’s out there. This Thursday it’s going down at Death By Audio! Canadian party bringers VNDLSM & Tyler Fedchuk (1/2 Alive) bring a ruckus to town, accompanied by Brooklyn bangers Stab Wounds. If I was in the are I would for sure be in attendance.
Surely you’ve heard all these jams, but hear them again!
This shindig is presented by YOUTH, VIDEODISCO & our friend Chazology of the late great Charlesrequina.com. But a little bird told me that Chazology will be back in full effect soon with a brand new invention. Go and celebrate good beats and the forth-coming re-birth of Chaz.
They had a good run, but the cartoonish quartet is no more.
Damon Albarn has confirmed that Gorillaz will release no more studio albums.
The Blur singer said that the only project left for the cartoon band will be a film featuring a score composition, that has previously been linked to filmmaker and ‘Monty Python’ mastermind Terry Gilliam.
Speaking to BBC Radio 2, Albarn said: “We’re trying to make a film next, starting in September hopefully. It will be a film score. There won’t be another pop record.
We will remember them fondly & await any new project which may be given birth to after the fallout. Gorillaz collaborated with Del The Funk Homosapien, Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto, John Lenon’s son Sean Lennon, Damon Albarn of Blur, members of Tom Tom Club, Dan The Automator & Danger Mouse to name a few.
A quick search on blogsearch & the hype machine shows that either blogoshperians are not liking Dead Disco or they are just not hip to the game. It has to be the latter because it would be hard to refuse the goodness that is Dead Disco. These beauties from the UK create a brand of indie/electro/rock that is hip & fun & always dance able. Very reminiscent of blondie. The group is produced by James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco so you know the bass lines are throbbing & are sure to keep dancefloor heads bobbing.
The ‘Automatic’ single sold out in the UK within days of it’s release. Currently there are 3 left on Amazon, go get ‘em. Or you can download all of their tracks from iTunes. Stream more songs by Dead Disco on myspace.
If you don’t got it, you’re trippin’. Simian Mobile Disco, Fox n’ Wolf, Klaxons, Dead Disco, Valentinos, Freeform Five, Gossip, Boys Noize & Digitalism… It’s a veritable who’s who in the indie/disco/dance punk scene.
None of the Kitsune comps have let you down thus far. Neither will this one.
Bay area’s Kid606 runs Tigerbeat6 & has been doing a bang up job. With artists like Quintron & Miss Pussycat, Drop The Lime, Cex, Numbers, Eats Tapes & Soft Pink truth, you know Tigerbeat6 will be around to crash your party & sleep on your couch for a while.
Impeccable DJ sets by New York City’s own Syrup Girls & Drop The Lime. DTL & SG’s definitely do not skimp on the exclusive tracks, remixes & white labels in these mixes. They cover all the subjects, electro-house to grime to booty-bass. It’s like a cheat sheet for your next DJ set.
Sorry, you guys are gonna have to buy the CD for the tracklist!
Metronomy is the musical moniker of Joseph Mount who is a producer from Brighton. Lately he’s been the man responsible for some really excellent big name remixes like The Gorillaz ‘El Manana’ remix posted on The Yellow Stereo & Dead Disco’s ‘The Treatment’ remix posted over at Good Weather For Airstikes. Here’s a couple of fun tracks of his own. They don’t really sound like his remix work but they are good nonetheless.
