Europe’s Billion Dollar DJs have been keeping pretty busy, recently remixing electro rock cuties Robots In Disguise, as well as cranking out other awesome remixes for the likes of Brazilian dance punkers CSS and fellow UK bad girl M.I.A..
They’ve also recently collaborated with London’s Oh-Death, so keep your eyes peeled and ears open for that.
The BDDJ’s were kind enough to give Missingtoof an exclusive remix of Florida’s party rap superstars Yo Majesty- this’ll have you doing some major electro aerobics for real…Bounce-ba-bounce-ba-bounce-ba-bounce!!!
I was cruising through the Missingtoof dental records the other day and came across Finnish DJ/Producer Kimarr’s ‘Pose It Up’ series of mixtapes and found myself poppin’ and lockin’ to the old mixes which can still hold their own amongst some mixes made last week.
Then I got to thinkin’ ‘Damn, what happened to homie? Did he find some other blog to give all his lovin’ to?’ I cried into my pillow for a bit and three hours I hear a ding from the inbox and to my shock & surprise there was this brand new mash by Kimarr!
It contains some new and old and by the end, it chops up to Baltimore.
Check.
Kimarr assures us that Pose It Up Volume 4 is in the works and you know we will have that ish first on the ‘Toof. Dig into the Missingtoof guts for the previous Pose It Up mixes. Holla at Kimar though his myspace or on his official site.
Kanye West’s dj A-Trak slaps together the creamy beats of Kavinsky with the sweet vocals of MIA like an audio peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
We posted the bootleg version of this cut back in May. It was a lowly 96kbps, which is such a cocktease bitrate. Sounds good on the pc speakers but try playing that shit on a club system and risk getting disowned by your mom. A-Trak used the real deal Holyfield track on his Dirty South Dance mixtape.
Buy Dirty South Dance here. And get your Kavinsky needs fulfilled here. Add Kanye’s dj on the M-space. You guys are already friends with Kavinsky but visit his Tron looking page anyways. Also, be on the look out for the Fool’s Gold tour coming to molest your area.
Last week we posted an M.I.A. remix of ‘Boyz’ by Canadian DJ Rock Steady Drew which got an amazing response. One reader even said ‘I’m deleting all my other Boyz mixes!’ The track even made it to number 1 on the Hype Machine popular list. Dang!
So, since you guys seem to love what Drew do, here’s a whole slew remixes for you. You know how we do! (and now you see why we are bloggers & not rappers)
Rock Steady Drew keeps us fiendin’ but that should be enough to hold you guys over for a while. Don’t forget that Rock Steady Drew is Djaying the Official MIA “KALA” CD release party August 25th @ the Drake Hotel Underground in Toronto. Hit him on on his website and see if he gots any room left on his guestlist!
M.I.A., like Justice is a artist who’s not short on official/unofficial remixes. But as music lovers we gotta collect them all, like Pokemon. This remix by Canadian DJ/producer Rock Steady Drew is the most official unofficial remix of Boyz that we’ve come across. Peep the scene.
If you are in Toronto on the 25th be sure to hit up M.I.A.’s official CD release party at the Drake Hotel Underground. Rock Steady Drew will be getting his disc jockey on & there will be a live performance by Toronto’s Bonjay.
OMG, so the new M.I.A. record, ‘Kala’ will hit stores on August 21st and is available for pre-order now. It’s produced by Switch and makes dancey people lose their god damned minds.
I caught up with M.I.A. tonight for her first of two sold out L.A. dates. You can catch her tomorrow if you jostle a ticket on eBay or Craigslist (like I did tonight). After L.A. she moves on to Chicago, then Baltimore. There’s still dozens of dates around the world and you can see if she stops at your city on M.I.A.’s MySpace.
After connecting with Diplo on what came to be her first albums, ‘Piracy Funds Terrorism’ and ‘Arular’, she enlisted the other half of Hollertronix, Low Budget to be her ‘Kala’ tour DJ. M.I.A. is a smart cookie when it comes to choosing colaborators.
And interestingly, anyone buys her new CD single for ‘Boyz’, gets enhanced content including audio of ‘Boyz’ broken down into parts for D.I.Y. remixes. So get to it and send ‘em here (buy on Amazon)! Remixers and would-be remixers should check out our VST archive for some goodies.
First out of the gate with a really great ‘Boyz’ remix was German producer Kimono Cops who set the bar high:
But, my favorite new M.I.A. remix (of a 2005 track) right now comes from one of our favorite peoples, DJ LuvTek of Los Angeles, whom you might remember from his brilliantly mixed, ‘Do It at the Disco Mixtape‘ which we posted recently. Coincidentally, I checked out his weekly club, Genre for the first time tonight after the M.I.A. show and the shit was proper! Thurr were teenagers making out, gays giving each other hand jobs, stylish dudes, cute girls, drunk brawls and, of course, loud party music for loud party people. What more could you ask for? Seeing a dude get a glock 9mm put to his head while waking to your car afterward? Nope! Saw that too! Genre’s got it all! See wuz up every Monday night at Cinespace in Hollywood; Strictly for the 18+ set.
The tangent was for dramatic effect! Now, without mo’ adieu, hear the LuvTek remix of ‘URAQT’:
Risk One of the Bum Squad DJz is a top-shelf party-cracker with a turntablist background. Currently, homeboy is holding Seattle down on X104 FM with ‘The Leak’ program and doing grips of residencies.
Risk One hit us with his edits of M.I.A.’s ‘Bucky Done Gone’ and The Cool Kids‘ ‘Black Mags’ and that shit slayed me down!:
You can sample and purchase Risk One tracks on CrooklynClan.net and grab free mixes from his MySpace (I’m really feeling the Electro/Balle Funk mix called ‘Noc Noc Demo’. No tracklisting, so you’ll just have to trust me that you’ll love it. Download it direct, here).
If you ain’t heard Kavinsky is touring this summer with SebastiAn & Daft Punk. I’ve got my ticket locked away in the safe (a.k.a. under the bed). If you don’t have yours yet, in gods name why not?!
