Modular’s sweethearts New Yong Pony Club and the boy wonder from down under, Muscles come to the Mezzanine tonight to treat us to an amazing show. Jefrodisiac and Richie Panic will be behind the decks kicking out the jams as usual. Both groups had songs about Ice Cream which quickly became dance party staples. NYPC’s song you might recognize from the Intel Core 2 Duo commercials from earlier this year.
This puts NYPC in some great company! Their debut album, ‘Fantastic Playroom’ (Buy it!) was a long time coming. Their break-through single ‘Ice Cream’ was featured in a major advertisement campaign for Intel, as well as countless mixtape, radio and club playlists all over the world.
Great songs become remix juggernauts. Interesting that ‘Ice Cream’ was originally released in 2004 on UK label Tirk Records before finding it’s next home on Aussie label, Modular. ‘Ice Cream’ is a great song and is absolutely a juggernaut. The is still getting it’s remix fix and just received some new remix jobs from, most recently by Tiga and, previously, Hervé, Van She and The Hooks, among others.
Pick up the singles and you’ll realize there are so many remixes of ‘Ice Cream’! Now seriously, Pick them up from Amazon and HMV. Strictly for the hardcore, NYPC has a merch site with shirts and mugs and junk. We gots one, we hardcore!
Norwegian dance rockers Datarock are playing in L.A. tonight (at the Troubadour) and that’s the perfect excuse to share this ‘re-make’ that Metal on Metal sent us last month of the Datarock tune, ‘I Used to Dance with My Daddy’. I’ve played it dozens of times and knew I had to post it sooner or later. Then again, the source material is down right amazing on it’s own. You can stream Datarock’s entire album, as well as purchase digital downloads, on their MySpace. If you’re like me and want hard copies, the self-titled album will be for sale June 16th, and you can pre-order via Amazon (they have the Fa-Fa-Fa Remixes collection too). Do it! It’s one of the finest Indie/Electro-Rock records to come out lately.
After Tonight’s L.A. show Datarock is off for a tour through Europe; The dates are on their MySpace, so go!
Also worth hype is remixer/remaker Metal on Metal. These Lithuanian producers are on the come up right now, and have recently made the jump from bedroom producer to professional producer. Now with official remixes for Tim Deluxe, released on Skint Records and a New Young Pony Club, ‘Ice Cream’ remake which will be released July 2nd through Modular Records. Give it a preview below—it’s butt quality (96kbps) so get at your Modular Peoples soon for a legit copy:
Their original track ‘No Front Teeth’ sounds like a great Missingtoof theme song, eh? It’s got a nice remix by Nightmoves but give the original a listen:
New Young Pony Club’s ‘The Bomb’ is a faster, more up-tempo track in the dance rock vein, as opposed to their hipster hit Ice Cream. Remix work from Phones (He can do NO WRONG!), The Teenagers, and Kaos.
I’m feeling all the remixes- Phones brings the screech and the thump, kinda like Digitalism or Surkin. The Teenagers keep it quite minimal but very solid- synthy overtones over bass, drumset beats, and cowbell. The Kaos remix keeps it close to the original, at the same time reminding me of Radio 4 or Moving Units.
If you live in San Francisco you know the Mezzanine is consistently providing entertaining musical acts & alcoholic beverages for you to spend you paycheck on. Here’s a peek at the new calendar, plan your life & checkbook accordingly.

Muti talented Rob Crowe of Pinback, Thingy & Heavy Vegetable fame is set to bathe the Mezzanine in indie rock deliciousness. He will be backed my members of Pinback & Heavy Vegetable. This performance is to promote his newest solo release titled “Living Well” which was released January 23rd. It’s available on amazon.
I lost Chris’ New Young Pony Club CD, but, I found my fucking shirt.
But, like most other things in life I am not going to take responsibility for this mishap. No, it’s gotta be something in the cosmos or something. Or, god hates Chris. I don’t know. But if anyone expects me to be held accountable for this missing item, they are dumb & not my friend.
Fuck that noise, I’ll blame this shit on Chris. He must be a bad person & have super negative karmic energy surrounding him & his CD which is why that shit is lost.
I mean hell, I don’t have bad karma. I found my shirt. It probably got lost in the first place from hanging out with that shady character Chris.
p.s. Chris, if you are reading this, your CD got lost because you are a bad man. Quit IM-ing me. Here’s an mp3 to hold you over until god decides to give your CD back.
