Trash Fashion - Mommy & Daddy (Jet Storm’s Ear Cleaner Mix)

Trash Fashion - Mommy & Daddy

Trash Fashion is at it again. Jet Storm of Trash Fashion did a remix of their ‘Mommy & Daddy’ track and it’s so ruff, so smooth. Remember the Rhythm Dr. version we tossed up here a while back? Well, once this new one gets into it, it’s like that version on 3 Red Bull and vodkas and 6 bumps of coke. Thank Trash Fashion for having the insight to combine hardcore punk vocals and day-glo raver aesthetics and make it palatable for the pointy-shoe’d scenester lot.

MP3: Trash Fashion - Mommy & Daddy (Jet Storm’s Ear Cleaner Mix)

The video you see above is the the original track, which is hype to begin with. Directed by YouthClub!.

If you want to be down with Trash Fashion you don’t want to wear plastic bags for a t-shirts and wash your hair with old newspapers and banana peels—nah! You want to holler at TF on MySpace or hit up the official Trash-Fashion.com to purchase the new ‘Mommy & Daddy EP’ and see their slew of European tour dates.

Perhaps you could be Trash Fashion-ish in some Jeremy Scott (or Jeremy for Ksubi), some Alex + Chloe and some glittery high-tops, interestingly more expensive than trash, by a lot.

P.S. It’s Thursday, and we told you what that means, the new Bangers & Cash track is out on Spank Rock’s MySpace. It’s called ‘B.O.O.T.A.Y.’ and features Santogold and Betty Black (rapping!). Need we say more?

Sohodolls: “Ribbed Music for the Numb Generation” / Crystal Castles remix

London’s Sohodolls are hot like fire! They’ve been on UK scene for a few years, but now they’re ready to go big and make an impression on the world with their upcoming debut album, ‘Ribbed Music for the Numb Generation’. The album will be released this September 10th, imprinted on Filthy Pretty Records, with production and mix-down by Robert Harder (producer of Whitey, Babyshambles and Ali Love, among others) and Steve Lyon (co-producer for Depeche Mode and The Cure, among others).

The fox with the tape-y nipple that you see above is Maya von Doll—writer and singer of Sohodolls. The tracks below span from 2005 to now, but some of the best songs are a slow burn before the inferno! I’m the kind of simp that falls in love with strippers, so the Sohodolls single, ‘Stripper’ is my jammy.

Icing on the cake would be a Crystal Castles remix. And fancy that, there is one! ‘Trash the Rental’ just got trashier.

New Young Pony Club: “Ice Cream” remixes from Tiga, Herve, Van She & The Hooks

NYPC New Young Pony Club: Ice Cream remixes from Tiga, Herve, Van She & The Hooks

New Young Pony Club has always been deserving of the hype. And now we’d like to congratulate them for being shortlisted as a one of the 12 best albums of the past year, and thus, a contender for the #1 pick for the prestigious Nationwide Mercury Prize (wuz that? Wikipedia helps). Also nominated are several acts that we’ve featured here including, Klaxons (archive), Bat For Lashes (Archive), Maps (archive) and Amy Winehouse (archive). Also nominated are previous Mercury Prize winners, Arctic Monkeys and Dizzee Rascal for their recent efforts.

This puts NYPC in some great company! Their debut album, ‘Fantastic Playroom’ (Buy it!) was a long time coming. Their break-through single ‘Ice Cream’ was featured in a major advertisement campaign for Intel, as well as countless mixtape, radio and club playlists all over the world.

Great songs become remix juggernauts. Interesting that ‘Ice Cream’ was originally released in 2004 on UK label Tirk Records before finding it’s next home on Aussie label, Modular. ‘Ice Cream’ is a great song and is absolutely a juggernaut. The is still getting it’s remix fix and just received some new remix jobs from, most recently by Tiga and, previously, Hervé, Van She and The Hooks, among others.

Pick up the singles and you’ll realize there are so many remixes of ‘Ice Cream’! Now seriously, Pick them up from Amazon and HMV. Strictly for the hardcore, NYPC has a merch site with shirts and mugs and junk. We gots one, we hardcore!

If nothing else, visit NYPC on MySpace and say congratulations or check their official site, WeArePony.com

Now, another recent remix of their most popular, ‘It’s a Rave Dave’ by NY duo Denny Le Nimh and Bryan Cox:

Lastly, let’s round things out with our favorite remix from the O.G. sold-out single—That JE2 remix that we were “raving” on about in the Michael Hooker Mini Mix Part 6 post from earlier this year. And it stands worth mentioning that JE2 is Michael Hooker (and Elcias). Without further adieu:

Shy Child - “Noise Won’t Stop” album featuring Spank Rock & Phones

shychild Shy Child - Noise Wont Stop album featuring Spank Rock & Phones

Shy Child is an electronic music group from NYC that flows in the same vein as Klaxons, Hot Chip, and Soulwax; All of which Shy Child have supported on tours.

Shy Child’s newest full length record (their third), ‘Wall of Noise’, released on Wall of Sound, is their most polished yet. My two favorite tracks off the record, I just discovered, have additional production credits going to Paul Epworth a.k.a. Phones. Phones is one of the best things to happen to electronic music, so I ain’t mad at that! The tracks are their first single, ‘Drop the Phone’ and ‘Astronaut’. The title of the single makes even more sense now!

MP3: Shy Child - Drop The Phone

MP3: Shy Child - Astronaut

Shy Child also features some of our favorite peoples, the Spank Rock crew, on the track, ‘Kick Drum’.

MP3: Shy Child - Kick Drum (feat. Spank Rock)

Visit Shy Child on MySpace to stream tracks and check out where they stop on their European tour happening right now! MySpace is the resource, but they also have a sparse official site. You can get their albums and EPs through Amazon; their new record is quality and recommended.

UK is one big rave: The Neon Plastix

2007_04_18_Neon_Plastix UK is one big rave: The Neon Plastix

The phrase, “the next big thing” gets thrown around a lot, and I might do more than my fair share of throwing. But wait! Really! The Neon Plastix just might be the next big thing in UK (Doncaster) indie/dance music. Their new songs keep pace right along with the Klaxons and they dish out that day-glo-y new rave sound. But, at moments they remind me more of L.A. dance-rockers Moving Units. No matter how I try to pigeon-hole it, I love it.

I can’t stop listening. Enjoy the new ones:

MP3:  The Neon Plastix - Gentlemans Gold

MP3:  The Neon Plastix - 18-30s

MP3:  The Neon Plastix - Untitled

Note the MP3s above are transcodes from 128kbps .M4A files using switch (software). TNP gave us .M4A files but our WordPress (how we be bloggin’) audio player doesn’t support it and neither do I.

Here’s a new remix The Neon Plastix did (their first one) for Late of the Pier:

MP3:  Late of the Pier - Space and the Woods (The Neon Plastix Remix)

And lastly, for good measure, here’s the b-side, “On Fire” from last year’s The Neon Plastix single titled, “Alive”, just in case you missed it the first time around on the Green Pea-ness blog:

Does It Offend You, Yeah? x Trash Fashion x Cool Kids x Them Jeans x Kid Millionaire

Cinespace_4-0-07 Does It Offend You, Yeah? x Trash Fashion x Cool Kids x Them Jeans x Kid Millionaire

I’m excited for this. The homie Them Jeans, who we’ve already featured in this post, throws this weekly club in Hollywood and it’s always the heat—and that’s exactly why I’ve been there more Tuesdays over the last 3 years than I’ve not been there. You should go too if you’re able, like tonight. You can’t argue with the line up, and if you get there early there’s free booze it’s a breeze to get in. If you can’t make it, Trash Fashion is doing more Cali dates in San Diego and San Francisco before their return to their UK home. Dates and info for all these artists can be found in the links at the bottom.

And truth be told, I’m very obsessed with Does It Offend You, Yeah? (Good Weather for Airstrikes can bring you up to speed with their artist profile). Their essential “We Are Rockstars” has been a dance party requirement for months and months on end and we’re still not sick of it. Not even slightly.

New Rave Vs Nintendo Core

powerglove New Rave Vs Nintendo Core

This year New Rave is all the rage amongst show going teens. But a few years back there was a similar musical movement called ‘Nintendo Core’. There are obvious differences between New Rave & Nintendo Core, but there are similarities as well. Most notably the indie/rock based roots. Both are dance-able by certain standards. Both usually have songs about fantastical subject matter & inspire neon clad youngsters to gyrate wildly. But why didn’t the earlier genre catch on as much as it’s younger sibling?

Possibly because Nintendo Core wasn’t an NME backed genre but more likely because Nintendo Core songs weren’t exactly club friendly like it’s New Rave counterparts are.

HORSE The Band were the ones credited with creating the ‘Nintendo Core’ genre. Their first CD entitled R. Borlax was released in 2003. ‘Scissors on his fucking head’ is the chorus to the song ‘Cutsman’ which is undoubtedly about one of the bosses on Megaman 2.

MP3:  Horse The Band - Cutsman

MP3:  Horse The Band - Bunnies

An Albatross is another notable band that was labeled ‘Nintendo core’ around that time. A tad more dancey than Horse The Band but still a lot harder for some to digest than say, Klaxons

MP3:  An Albatross - The Revolutionary Politics Of Dance

HORSE The Band put out an album in 2005 entitled ‘The Mechanical Hand’ which is available here.

An Albatross has released a 7″ split with XBXRX & three full length albums which are availble here. An Albatross is currently touring in Europe. Check their myspace page for details.
