Minipli 550 – U Preach The Teaches Of Peaches

minipli 550 Minipli 550 U Preach The Teaches Of Peaches

Minipli 550 was a German electro group from uh, Germany. I first heard about them soon after Peaches’ debut album ‘Teaches of Peaches’ took over my little corner of the universe in 2000. Minipli, similar to Peaches in sound had a song called ‘U Preach the Teaches Of Peaches’ which called out Merrill Nisker for her overtly sexual lyrics & flesh flashing live performances.

Minipli 550 agreed they were fans of Peaches but had a problem with her claiming to be a feminist yet portraying women in a way they deemed offensive. The song was good enough for me to hold on to for 6 years.

I can’t read German, but from what I could gather Minipli 550 broke the fuck up, but have reincarnated as Minipli 225, I assume switching one or two of the old members with some newbies.

Bunny Rabbit- Lovers and Crypts

bunnyrabbit Bunny Rabbit Lovers and Crypts

Upon listening to the opening track, ‘Saddle Up’, one can blindly dismiss Bunny Rabbit as being a Peaches wannabe. But give this album a patient listening ear, and NYC’s Bunny Rabbit proves that she’s a force to be reckoned with. Her voice reminds me at times of Amil (Jay-Z collaborator) and at others, Kelli Ali (Former Sneaker Pimps singer a.k.a. Kelli Dayton). The beats are all produced by Black Cracker (who also produces and collaborates with CocoRosie) and are reason enough to give ‘Lovers and Crypts’ a thorough listen.

It’s still Tuesday & it’s still Wavey: Gina X Performance.

gina x Its still Tuesday & its still Wavey: Gina X Performance.

I DJ at an 80’s club sometimes. The opening slot. When only the bartenders, the regulars, true eighties heads & people who don’t want to pay the cover are there. Most people hate the opening slot, but I like it. I have the pleasure of spinning some of the more obscure (ahem, better) stuff from back in the day, without someone requesting Depeche Mode or Morrissey every 5 minutes.

Gina X Performance is one of those artists that fall into the obscure category. If someone would’ve have told me that this album was made this year, I’d have no reason to doubt it. GXP are considered more disco/electro, but the track ‘Be a Boy’ is bathed in new wavey-ness. Artists probably influenced by Gina X include Miss Kittin, Revl9n & Peaches.

Here’s three tracks from their 1979 ‘Nice Mover’ album.
Gina X Performance – Nice Mover
Gina X Perfomance – Be A Boy
Gina X Performance – No G.D.M.

The whole album from the first track to the final is gold. Gigolo Records re-released No G.D.M. on 12 inch. You can go pick that up here Its still Tuesday & its still Wavey: Gina X Performance..
