Phillidelphia rave-band Pink Skull drop their first full-length, ‘Zeppelin 3′ today, fools! This comes hot on the heels of ‘toof favorite, the ‘Drugs Will Keep Us Together’ single, that we shared earlier this year. ”Zeppelin 3′ is pressed on Free News Projects wax and the first single is ‘Gonzo’s Cointreau’—a track that is discovered to be a journey through frequencies. It’s ear-drum contorting electronic experimentation is counterpointed with more conventional drum kits breaks for a concoction that’s rather unique. Gonzo is onto something in this organic, synthetic dance track:
Philadelphia’s two-man crew Pink Skull, perhaps best known for their most amazing remix of fellow Philly act Spank Rock with the so-nasty so-good rap from Amanda Blank, has triumphantly returned with ‘Drugs Will Keep Us Together’, their first release since ’06’s LP ‘Blast Yr Akk’ (although they stay busy with remixes, including the recent one for L.A.’s best HEALTH that we featured last month). ‘Drugs Will Keep Us Together’ is one tech house banger fresh from the hardware and required listening for every hardknock with an internet connection. Pink Skull delivers not only the grinding frequencies and fierce basslines, but melodic hand-in-the-air synth rifts on top. Is this modern day psychedelica? Go pop some allergy medication, crank that Pink Skull and cuddle with your man ’cause drugs (and dance music) will keep y’all together.
The upcoming single, released on Brooklyn label/collective The Savant Guard will also feature remixes by NYC electronic producer 33Hz (with a little help from Ming of Ming+FS fame, if understand correctly) and another British techno/house Trevor Loveys, aka 1/2 of Speakerjunk. This product ain’t free here, but you can sample the full-length goods at Pink Skull’s page on The Savant Guard.
Dropping March 24th, the new single will be available on all the typical online avenues: Beatport, iTunes, Amazon, etc. via top notch distributor IODA. And for the 12″ fiends, your favorite record shops should have you covered, pressed up on Music Response UK vinyl.
And before you go, remind yourself how amazing this aforementioned Philly classic is:
L.A. noise rockers HEALTH have a massive remix project that’s set off on their HEALTH // DISCO MySpace page. The rockers have enlisted reams of exciting electronic music producers to have a whack at their 2007 Lovepump United self-titled debut.
More of these party pictures (and some insane afterparty pictures) available at Frisco Disco Fever. This past weekends Frisco Disco had Glass Candy (Portland) heating up the house, expect pics from that shindig soonly. The next BLOW UP (Dec 21) will feature electro-rapper Gold Chains and Missingtoof DJs.
Architecture in Helsinki, one of the most interesting bands to come out of Australia (or anywhere for that matter), have released their new single, ‘Heart it Races’ in the US today and it’s got a brilliant collection of diverse remixes by A-Trak, DJ/Rupture (one of our favorite Tigerbeat6 peoples), and YACHT, as well as a cover of ‘Heart it Races’ preformed by Soft Tigers. ‘Heart it Races’ is the first single from the forthcoming album, ‘Places Like This’ which is slated for release later this summer.
Here’s another mix by Pink Skull which didn’t make the US CD single, but is good none the less. Who can forget Pink Skull and their F’ing amazing remix of Spank Rock’s ‘Bump’ that put the F’ing amazing Amanda Blank verse on front street (get it from our archives).
You can get the new single from Amazon on the cheap. And while you’re at it, fill in the rest of the gaps in your Architecture in Helsinki catalog via Amazon, like you should! We only like gaps in smiles, not record collections!
While we’re on topic, here’s some more AIH amazingness. They remixed Bonde do Role on their recently released, ‘Office Boy’ single (Buy it!)
Check out Architecture in Helsinki on MySpace to get more info—especially about their current US tour with dates all over starting as soon as this week!
Friday I had the pleasure of seeing Guns N Bombs perform at Lights Down Low. I talked to Johnny & Filip a bit and enjoyed their awesome set. I recorded a bootleg of the set but the bass proved to be intense for my shitty mic. I did however get an okay sounding video clip of GNB performing ‘Nothing is Getting Us Anywhere. The clip is a tad dark, but what do you expect the club is called ‘Lights Down Low’.
As an added bonus I also met Julian S Process of Pink Skull who are responsible for a for a number of amazing remixes out there right now, including the SpankRock ‘Bump’ remix I posted in December. Julian djayed that night also & not only does he have superb musical taste & djaying ability but he is an awesome person as well.

If you slept on Pink Skull’s remix of Spankrock’s ‘Bump’ here it is again. Get it!
Be sure to visit Pink Skull’s myspace for some new tracks to stream. And add them while you’re there.
I’d also like to thank The Rich Girls Are Weeping, Disco Dust, Partyends & goagrejor for the linking Missingtoof last week. Visit their blogs as they always have fresh new music for that ass. If any of you others link us, let us know & because sometimes we don’t always catch them right off the bat. Thanks!
AND we’ve received A LOT of emails this past couple of weeks from artists & djs which we want to post but we’re in the middle of revamping the site. We’re switching over to the new Blogger system & making some minor tweaks to the design. Hopefully it will be easier on the eyes & easier to navigate the site.
The only problem is Bloggers new system uses strict validation before it will even let you upload a new design. Can’t even have any unclosed breaks. Customizing bloggers new widget system is also a bitch. But hopefully I’ll be all done with that by midweek & can get back to posting music.
Did Jaleel White (a.k.a. Steve Urkel) & Dave Coulier from Fullhouse give up making mediocre family television & combine forces to make some pretty awesome b-more, dancey/rap/rock fusion?
No.
It’s just Spank Rock.
But you gotta admit, those fools kinda look like them other fools.
Here’s a remix of the single ‘Bump’ from their 2006 ‘Yoyoyoyo’ album. They completely omit Jaleel– I mean, Naeem’s verse & let Amanda Blank woman-handle this track.
