(thee) Mike B & The Hundreds: ‘Drive-By Bangers Volume 2′ mix with Graveleaf & Whooliganz

mikeb (thee) Mike B & The Hundreds: Drive By Bangers Volume 2 mix with Graveleaf & Whooliganz

(thee) Mike B, one of L.A.’s hardest working DJs, recently threw down hella old Southern Cali rap jams on behalf of streetwear fam, The Hundreds. (thee) Mike B gets in the essential L.A. favorites like Ice-T, Dr. Dre and The Pharcyde, but even chops it up with underground favorites like Carson’s Ras Kass, Pamona’s Above the Law and even—most surprisingly—Beverly Hills super-thugs, The Whooliganz. Yeah boyee!

The Hundreds are huge, and Mike B is brilliant so you know they got vocal drops by Texas’ most prolific Bun B, of UGK and even Ice-T calling Mike B the best evar. That’s motherfucking street cred, ya’herd?

Wowee! Now, our Missingtoof archives are (still) down as of today, but perhaps you downloaded some Graveleaf from this post a while back. Graveleaf is the production outfit of Mike B and partner Omar Doom. Welp, a while back L.A. favorites Royal Rumble gave Graveleaf’s track ‘The Crusade’ their remix treatment. Check it:

Just ’cause, here’s some more anecdotal info on The Whooliganz. They are, teenage rapper Mudfoot, who would grow up to be hip-hop production genius The Alchemist and rapper Mad Skillz (but not the one from VA) who always has been, Scott Caan, son of actor James Caan, and who has since left the hip-hop business to join the family business, acting. Damn, little Alchemist got a awesome flow! Watch the little dudes, ‘Put Ya Handz Up’ video on YouTube. I dusted off my CD single for you. The original is straight Soul Assassain-ation by DJ Lethal. Bonus ‘93 era remix from QDIII, son of, Michael Jackson producer, Quincy Jones:

The featured mix above is the third Mike B has made for The Hundreds, the previous classic electro mix, 2007’s ‘Steady Dippin” is available on Mike B’s great blog over at Mike B vs. Dickie G. 2006 saw the release of the original ‘Drive-By Bangers’—all hip-hop—and also available on Mike B’s blog.

Royal Rumble – ‘Stand & Deliver (Adam & the Ants cover)’ + Minimal Mix

Always on some ol’ next shit, L.A.’s Royal Rumble come off with a properly executed cover of iconic Post-Punk and New Wave band, Adam & the Ants’s ‘Stand and Deliver’. The Rumble’s RussInABox handles the vocals.

MP3: Royal Rumble – Stand and Deliver (Adam and the Ants cover)

This cover is just one in a series of sixty (that’s right, 60!) new cover songs, served up free as part of Buffet Libre’s ‘Rewind 2′ project. Buffet Libre put the tracks up free last week and we’ve marinated in Buffet downloads ever since—Does this sound appetizing?: Dragonette covering ZZ Top. Frankmusik covering The Police, and Cryptonites remixing Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Those are just a tiny sample of the delectable tunes served up, right now, for free, at Buffet Libre. Go hungry. Dig in.

Royal Rumble also laced us up with something different—a mix in the minimal techno vein, although not in it’s purest form. Perhaps it’s faux minimal or “MnmLOL” as Royal Rumble have coined it.

Tracklist:

  1. Guy Gerber & Chaim – MySpace
  2. In Flagranti – Firmly Planted Memories
  3. Guido Schneider & Andre Galluzzi – Albertina
  4. Oliver Koletzki – Da Bleibt Er Ganz Cool
  5. Guy J – Under Pressure
  6. Oliver Huntemann – Real Love feat. Michael Skelton
  7. Andre Crom – Bodenturnen Dub
  8. Acid Girls – Palms (Joe and Will Ask? Remix)
  9. Stimming – Funkworm

Royal Rumble remixes Big Moves’ ‘Never Lose Sight’

royalrumble Royal Rumble remixes Big Moves Never Lose Sight

Beverly Hills toughest streetgang, Royal Rumble grows a little more mature with their newest remix for L.A.’s indie-come-disco band, Big Moves. Big Moves get a big treatment of disco-house drum-sequences and breakdowns. Good source material makes for solid reinterpretations, so, of course, the victory is shared. Big Moves’ lyrics are turned into infections chants, backed by organic hand-claps and synth-heavy techno basslines. Even with all that and a bag of Chips Ahoy!, track retains its original and intended indie-disco-house charm.

Supreeme: ‘Who We Are (Royal Rumble Remix)’

royalrumble Supreeme: Who We Are (Royal Rumble Remix)

Get excited! More from the Los Angeles dwelling, six-armed party monster known as, Royal Rumble. The Royal Rumble gang goes head up against another three-man team, ATL’s rapper clique, Supreeme. The results are so heeat—perhaps they wear backpacks, but it didn’t weigh them down a bit, as the ascended to the Warner Brothers Records ranks (wait, are major labels relevant anymore?). The remix grabs a sample from pioneering krautrock band Can’s 1974 track ‘Mother Upduff’. The end product is decidedly electro, but the raw materials are spanning genres.

Soulwax – ‘Miserable Girl’ Royal Rumble edit / Original mix

soulwaxroyalrumble Soulwax Miserable Girl Royal Rumble edit / Original mix

At this point you should be no stranger to L.A.’s Royal Rumble gang—the three-man no-holds-barred tag-team party posse.

I was having dinner with Dan Rumble, of RR fame, the other night when he told me he had the goods—a DJ friendly edit of Soulwax’s ‘Miserable Girl’ that takes the hypest elements of ‘Miserable girl’ and prolongs that feeling of electro-euphoria.

Kid Sister – Damn Girl (Royal Rumble Remixes)

royalrumble Kid Sister Damn Girl (Royal Rumble Remixes)

Besides being a no-holds-barred WWF Rowdy Roddy Piper vs Ultimate Warrior vs Hacksaw Jim Dougan slugfest, Royal Rumble is a raucous three-man gang of laptop DJs and producers from Los Angeles who are well posed to win that fashionable gold title belt, so to speak.

Here’s a pair of remixes Royal Rumble did with Kid Sister’s ‘Damn Girl’ that was commissioned by bigger bro(s) Flosstradamus. These really put the Too $hort sample on front street and we ain’t mad at it.

MP3: Kid Sister – Damn Girl (Royal Rumble Hall of Fame Extended Remix)

Royal Rumble has been one of the busier acts in the local electro/indie/hipster scene. But their calendar is looking sparse today, perhaps for the bigger and better things, like more production and bigger shows, like Dim Mak Records annual throwdown, Neighborhood Festival on Sept. 29th in Downtown L.A. …The Rumble will be there and they’re bringing so much laptop heat your nuts will go sterile (not really, homie, just a play on words).

Neighborhood Festival features other Missingtoof favorites The Faint, Crystal Castles, Kid Sister, Flosstradamus, Santogold, Spank Rock, Mickey Avalon and a grip of other notable names. Good eh? Tickets on sale, ya’herd?

I’ll leave you with the O.G. of ‘Damn Girl’ because it’s club classic.
