Happy Monday (if there is such a thing). Hope everyones weekend was fulfilling. But now it’s back to the hellish reality we call ‘day jobs’. I don’t know about you but Mondays are hard for me to swallow. Here’s a whole slew of dream poppy, shoegazey, twee-ish, girl rock for you to hopefully take the Monday edge off.

Undeniably Indie.

I listen to indie, I swear. However If you were to click on our ‘Indie’ tags you’d most likely see the same items as if you were to click the ‘electro’ tag. These days it seems the indie and electro genres go hand in hand like hipsters & 80 dollar haircuts. But originally the electro term was used to describe such acts such as Afrika Bambaataa, Soul Sonic Force, Mantronix & such.

And in the beginning the indie label was reserved for independent acts that were decidedly more rock based. However, a few hip hop acts such a Anticon, who at the time were putting out their own albums decided that since they were independent, they too could be deemed as ‘indie’.

Now the electro genre which includes the sub genres ‘electroclash’, electropop’, & ‘electrohouse’ covers Arpanet to Viva La Fete. And somewhere along the line a lot of indie bands became a lot more dancey. This begins to leave us with a nation of confused music store workers & a ton gray areas.

It’s important to remember that genres are just loose guidelines and I guess it all comes down to a matter of opinion. With that said, here’s some bands that are undeniably indie (IMO):
