steveaoki Steve Aoki: Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles out today! Exclusives from Pase Rock, Uffie, Todd Fink of The Faint, Mickey Avalon & more

Steve Aoki (a.k.a Kid Millionaire)—the founder of Dim Mak Records and co-founder of Hollywood’s premier indie/dance weekly, Cinespace (Tuesdays)—is known the world over as a int’l party rocker and so-called celebrity DJ. Today, Steve Aoki droped his debut mix album, ‘Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles’ on Thrive Records.

And what did I tell you? Aoki starts his record off with Refused’s hardcore punk classic ‘New Noise’ and from there on it, it’s three thick layers deep of partytime. Layer one: take a club hit: Justice’s ‘Waters of Nazereth’. Layer two: find the most balls-out remix from one of the biggest names in dance music, Erol Alkan. Layer three: (now here’s the tricky part) enlist your hip and talented friends, say, Spank Rock affiliate Pase Rock to put a special verse in the mix.

Now do that over and over again. You’ve got a pretty unique and phenomenal mix. Here are some layered excerpts pulled from the mix:

MP3: Steve Aoki - Justice - Waters of Nazereth (Erol Alkans Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr Re-Edit) (with Pase Rock guest drop)

MP3: Steve Aoki - Goose - Bring It On (with Todd Fink of The Faint guest drop)

MP3: Steve Aoki - KIM - Wet N Wild (with Mickey Avalon guest drop)

MP3: Steve Aoki - Scanners - Low Life (LA Riots Remix) (with Uffie guest drop)

Blow Up SF and Frisco Disco Strike Again

After Steve Aoki and Uffie, we didn’t think BLOW UP could get more epic but Jeffrey Paradise (a.k.a. Jefrodisiac) and Richie Panic took 11 to 12 alongside The Glass (NY) and Pink Skull (PA). Then they did it again the next night at Frisco Disco alongside Gina Turner (LA) and Hatchmatik (Montreal). Photographer Lady Meleksah and videographer Peter Noble were there to capture us getting down.

The next BLOW UP (Dec 21) will feature electro-rapper Gold Chains and Missingtoof DJs.

BLOW UP SF with Steve Aoki, Uffie, Justice & DJ AM …WTF?

Oct. 19th Blow Up. Video by Peter Noble

Our Blow Up parties take SF off the damn chains. Blow Up, Frisco Disco, and Robot Rock parties take it to 11 every time (know your Spinal Tap references?). We’ve recently had Justice, Uffie, Steve Aoki and are set to bring in The Glass and Pink Skull next time around on the 16th. Your hosts Frisco Disco Crew, Jeffrey Paradise (a.k.a. Jefrodisiac) & Richie Panic come to hit San Francisco upside the head. All of it’s captured by photographer Lady Meleksah and videographer Peter Noble.

Moving Units: “Hexes for Exes” album out October 9th

movingunits Moving Units: Hexes for Exes album out October 9th

Moving Units were one one of the best things to happen to indie rock when they emerged in 2003. More than a few of us have had their first album, ‘Dangerous Dreams’ in heavy rotation ever since and have been waiting and wishing for a return to (highly-danceable) form. Well, on October 9th we are all given deliverance with the release of the Moving Units sophomore LP, ‘Hexes for Exes’.

The devoted can now pre-order the new album at Moving Units online store. Also available for y’all to snag is a special package including an exclusive T-shirt designed by Christian Joy (famed for her outrageous get-ups for Yeah Yeah Yeah’s front woman and fashionista Karen O).

Get excited! Here’s a pair of classics from ‘Dangerous Dreams’ (there are so many):

MP3: Moving Units - Emancipation

MP3: Moving Units - Anyone

Now soak in these new ones (including a balls-2-the-wall remix by Felix Cartal we borrowed from big bad BigStereo):

MP3: Moving Units - Crash ‘N’ Burn Victims

MP3: Moving Units - Crash ‘N’ Burn Victims (Felix Cartal Remix)

MP3: Moving Units - The Kids From Orange County

Now, what have Moving Units been up to these years between album A and album B? We aside from touring with Blur and doing grips of shows and becoming all famous, lead singer Blake Miller has been DJing gigs around his L.A. residence and from coast to coast, as well as producing remixes under his side project, Weird Science with partner in production Steve Aoki. The duo have produced some solid remixes including notable work for Bloc Party, Rooney, and Peaches. However, my favorite is definitely this gem for the talented, Under the Influence of Giants.

MP3: Under the Influence of Giants - Mama’s Room (Weird Science Mix)

Got it? Get at Moving Units on MySpace and help them be ironic by buying more albums (a.k.a. move units). Most bands don’t deserve your money, this one does.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? x Trash Fashion x Cool Kids x Them Jeans x Kid Millionaire

Cinespace_4-0-07 Does It Offend You, Yeah? x Trash Fashion x Cool Kids x Them Jeans x Kid Millionaire

I’m excited for this. The homie Them Jeans, who we’ve already featured in this post, throws this weekly club in Hollywood and it’s always the heat—and that’s exactly why I’ve been there more Tuesdays over the last 3 years than I’ve not been there. You should go too if you’re able, like tonight. You can’t argue with the line up, and if you get there early there’s free booze it’s a breeze to get in. If you can’t make it, Trash Fashion is doing more Cali dates in San Diego and San Francisco before their return to their UK home. Dates and info for all these artists can be found in the links at the bottom.

And truth be told, I’m very obsessed with Does It Offend You, Yeah? (Good Weather for Airstrikes can bring you up to speed with their artist profile). Their essential “We Are Rockstars” has been a dance party requirement for months and months on end and we’re still not sick of it. Not even slightly.
