A quick search on blogsearch & the hype machine shows that either blogoshperians are not liking Dead Disco or they are just not hip to the game. It has to be the latter because it would be hard to refuse the goodness that is Dead Disco. These beauties from the UK create a brand of indie/electro/rock that is hip & fun & always dance able. Very reminiscent of blondie. The group is produced by James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco so you know the bass lines are throbbing & are sure to keep dancefloor heads bobbing.
The ‘Automatic’ single sold out in the UK within days of it’s release. Currently there are 3 left on Amazon, go get ‘em. Or you can download all of their tracks from iTunes. Stream more songs by Dead Disco on myspace.
Antimc of Palms Out Sound & Jason Stewart a.k.a. Them Jeans dropped this epic remix of Europe’s The Final Countdown in December. We grabbed it then, but it got lost amongst the slew of other stuff that was coming down the pipeline at that time. However, thanks to the shuffle feature on iTunes we were reminded of it’s existence. And what a hard hitting existence it is. I’ve had this bad boy on repeat since it’s rediscovery. You will too.
Your favorite tongue-in-cheek indie rockers Modest Mouse have a new album due out mid March. The album is tragically titled ‘We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank’. This will be Modest Mouse’s first album since the addition of former Smith’s member Johnny Marr’s edition to the line up.
‘Dashboard’ is the number 2 track from the forthcoming cd.
Missing Toof reader Rich & Skinny sent us this track by mash up aficionado Robert Ferreira a.k.a. Hidden Shapes (I told you we read mail). This track is pure mashed bliss. Justin Timberlake & The Gossip go so well together. Way better than him & Cameron Diaz ever did! :O
Check out the track, sing it in the shower & play it at your next gig.
We’re back with another edition of New Wave Tuesday & we’re also back on the ‘French Wave’ tip. This time we offer up this delectable piece of no-wave/new wave goodness titled Disco Rough by Mathematiques Modernes. Disco Rough was released as a single in 1980.
You can still find the 12 inch on gemm in very good condition for $8.00. Or, as Dr. Droy reminded us last week, this track was also released on the compilation ‘So Young But So Cold (Underground French Music 1977 - 1983)‘ on Tigersushi. The comp is an unfiltered look into the cultish no-wave/new wave movement which was taking place at that time.
(RCHRD OH?! of Bigstereo.net posted this yesterday, but I gotta get up on this too!)
San Francisco’s golden child, my friend & one of my favorite dj’s, SLEAZEMORE drops a new mix for all your grimey asses. The Florida native relocated to San Francisco a little over a year ago & quickly became a staple in the disco/dance scene which is hard to do in a city like SF which is literally littered with hungry, talented & established djs. He’s performed along side the Presets, Phones, Matthew Dear, Junior Sanchez, & Paparazzi (to name a few) & will be throwing a dope set to warm everyone up for the Ed Banger tour on March 24th at the Mezzanine.

Get on the team.
Got this remix in the inbox today & have been listening to it on repeat since. A fun little remix utilizing French-American electro-rap sensation Uffie’s ‘Ready to Uff’ & classic rave anthem, Alice Deejay’s ‘Better off Alone’.
Sorry for the lack of creativity on the accompanying image.
But, I’m at work!

Bay Area ‘post-punk laptop’ rapper MC Lars lets all ya’ll fools know that white kids ain’t hyphy. Peep this hilarious track which is more fun if you dwell in or around the bay. The best line has to be ‘San Jose rappers say they don’t wanna hear angry emo raps by Eydea & Atmosphere’, because it’s so true.
