A family that plays together stays together. Unit 3 with Venus was the 1980’s, sans-polyester version of The Partridge Family. Father Henree Herd on keys, mother Patty Bondage on bass & nine year old daughter Venus singing lead vocals. Oh yeah, cant forget Uncle Jay on drums. Their songs deal entirely with things a nine year old thinks about, which is evident in the song titles such as ‘Boys’ & ‘Scott Baio’.
MP3: Unit 3 With Venus - Pajama Party
No clue where Unit 3 and Venus are now, & I have never seen a full length release of theirs, unsure if one exists. Just tracks on compilations. One of which ‘Obscurity Files’, you can get from amazon. Also, they’ve appeared on a few Rodney on the KROQ comps put out by Poshboy records which you can sometimes find digging in the crates.

I saw them open for Nina Hagen at Fenders Ballroom in about 1985.
Hi, it is Venus from unit 3. I am 34 years old now…a long way from 8
I am a teacher in the LA area and no longer sing. That was just 7 years of my life. My dad still plays regularly in a blues band in the LA area. Thanks for posting my songs and pictures of me and my family. It is nice to know people still remember us. To reply what warner said…that night i yelled at the crowd because they were yelling for nina hagen while i was performing. i told them to shut up and they would have to wait!!! i was sassy. We never did release anything full length. Thanks again,
Venus
wow! THE Venus! cant believe you ran across this! Of course people still remember you guys! I had to hunt down the copies of the vinyl that i have so that means people still have them in their possesion & arent letting them go! Also, I’ve put Unit 3 with Venus songs on many a mixtape to pen pals and such & they loved you guys! Wanted to get their hands on more!
Thanks for taking the time to write to us!
I just finished listening to Rodney On The Roq compilation and felt compelled to find out about this band who’s lead singer is obviously a little girl. Little did I realize that I would find the writing of said little girl in the form of a now 34 year-old school teacher! Thank you so much, Venus. I’ve heard that song ‘Boys’ many times over the years and now I know who you are.
Venus, I used to watch you and your group on New Wave Theatre, and I’ve never forgotten you or your songs. Thanks for putting out such interesting music! (oddly enough, I’m training to become a teacher myself…a college theatre teacher.)
Ooh! Another oldie but goodie from Unit 3 with Venus for those still looking for these gems!
Unit 3 with Venus - Dream Monsters
Thanx SO much Venus! I have been a fan since I was in my mid-teens! I must say I turned 40 on my last b-day! (D’oh!) I had the vinyl (Rodney’s comps) for years, but unfortunately lost my entire record collection (a wooden crate full!) when I moved from Orange County to Florida in 1992. I’ve since returned to California (Northern CA) and am absolutely THRILLED to find all I have today. I used to talk with Rodney on the telephone occassionally, while he was doing his show on KROQ, and I often asked him: “What ever happened to Venus?!?!”
Great to hear you are teaching; The most important vocation on earth! You Rock Venus! And thanx to the webmaster for your e-mail to me today, and for such a quick response - yer awesome! (Now if I could only get a copy of that footage from New Wave Theatre!!!
Cheers!

Wow! I can’t believe it. I have wondered for years what has happened to Venus. All sorts of scenarios ran through my head. It is great to know you are alive and well. A teacher, no less. How awesome!! Still remember seeing you with Stevie(Mad Society) walking around at a gig hand in hand…it was so cute! Seeing Unit 3 was always fun. Thank you.
venus …..I saw you perform at a special “pajama party” night at the club oddysey in la back in the 80’s
me and my friend lauren still love your songs to this very day!!
Ya’know I’ve wondered several times over the years listening to my ROTRs comps, whatever happened to that kid and her family. Did they/she wind up in the joint or early graves? Sounds like everything thing worked out well. Good job Venus, keep up the good work!
