Kid Sister - Damn Girl (Royal Rumble Remixes)

Besides being a no-holds-barred WWF Rowdy Roddy Piper vs Ultimate Warrior vs Hacksaw Jim Dougan slugfest, Royal Rumble is a raucous three-man gang of laptop DJs and producers from Los Angeles who are well posed to win that fashionable gold title belt, so to speak.

Here’s a pair of remixes Royal Rumble did with Kid Sister’s ‘Damn Girl’ that was commissioned by bigger bro(s) Flosstradamus. These really put the Too $hort sample on front street and we ain’t mad at it.

MP3: Kid Sister - Damn Girl (Royal Rumble Hall of Fame Remix)

MP3: Kid Sister - Damn Girl (Royal Rumble Hall of Fame Extended Remix)

Royal Rumble has been one of the busier acts in the local electro/indie/hipster scene. But their calendar is looking sparse today, perhaps for the bigger and better things, like more production and bigger shows, like Dim Mak Records annual throwdown, Neighborhood Festival on Sept. 29th in Downtown L.A. …The Rumble will be there and they’re bringing so much laptop heat your nuts will go sterile (not really, homie, just a play on words).

Neighborhood Festival features other Missingtoof favorites The Faint, Crystal Castles, Kid Sister, Flosstradamus, Santogold, Spank Rock, Mickey Avalon and a grip of other notable names. Good eh? Tickets on sale, ya’herd?

I’ll leave you with the O.G. of ‘Damn Girl’ because it’s club classic.

Ursula 1000 vs Beat Gate - Around The World (Naughty Little Boy edit)

ESL alum and long time Missingtoof favorite, Ursula 1000 sent over this hilarious re-edit of Daft Punk’s ‘Around The World’ which features a sample of US Senator Larry Craig calling then President Bill Clinton a “a bad boy, a naughty boy”. If you’ve been watching the news you’ll have noticed that ‘honorable’ senator Larry Craig has recently been arrested for lewd conduct in a mens room (more on that). Ha.

Not only is this track good for comedic relief, it’s also good for all that ‘naughty’ dancing that you kids are into these days.

And because we love you and love Ursula 1000 here’s one of our all time faves by this super producer.

MP3:  Ursula 1000 - Les Techniques De L’Amour

Les Techniques Des L’Amour is off Ursula 1000’s 2002 release ‘Kinda Kinky’ which featured artwork by famous artist Shag. You can pick up most of Ursula 1000’s releases including his latest ‘Here Comes Tomorrow’ here. Visit the official website and the official MySpace for more fresh cuts and info.

Thunderheist

Twenty-somethings Isis and Grahmzilla of Thunderheist just wanna party. And want to make you party and this is extremely evident in the bass heavy, heart pounding beats they produce. They take hip hop beats beyond just head bobbing. this shit is down right headbangin’!

Rapper Isis initially hooked up with producer Grahmzilla to create beats for her own solo album but the collaboration quickly took a direction of it’s own and turned into the manifestation that we all know and love today.

But both members are no stranger to the music scene. Isis has been in the rap game for years, performing next to greats like Bahamadia. Grahmzilla has been DJing for years, competing in DMC comps and opening for folks like Herbaliser & Kid Koala.

MP3:  Thunderheist - Jerrrkit

MP3:  Thunderheist - Horny

MP3:  Thunderheist - Suenos Dulces

The duo doesn’t even have an official release and the only CD they have is the self-released EP they’ve been selling at shows, yet and still their fanbase is huge. They’ve recently finished touring Scandinavia. Not bad for a 6 month endeavor, right. Everyday it is becoming ever so apparent that Thunderheist is here to stay and we sure ain’t mad at that!

Thunderheist has an upcoming 12 inch on Bigfoot Records (Smalltown DJs), be on the look out for that. Until then keep a close watch on their myspace for tour dates and new booty shaking beats.

Frankmusik

Frankmusik is a 21 year old producer, songwriter from Thornton Heath South East London. He has lived there all his life and one day decided that it was high time that he made some sexy synth pop music. With a combination of retro synths, commodore 64 samples, fast chunky drum riffs and tried and tested lyrics, Frankmusik has started to get the ball rolling in 2007. Earlier this year he released his first EP titled ‘Frankisum’.

Here’s a track from the EP:

MP3:  Frankmusik - Made Her Smile

Frankmusik was kind enough to send us this newish track. We hope that means a proper full length is on the way.

MP3:  Frankmusik - Waste Of Time

The kid is an amazing remixer as well which he demonstrates for us on Dead Disco’s ‘You’re Out’.

MP3:  Dead Disco - You’re Out (Frankmusik remix)

Disco Dust was one of the frist blogs we’d seen posting Frankmusik and they even did an interview with him. If you like what you hear go pick up the whole ep on itunes or emusic. Check the myspizzle for dates and tracks & pics.

New Wave Tuesday: The B-52’s

The B-52’s formed in Athens Georgia 1976 after a drunken night at a Chinese restaurant. The name comes from the bouffant wigs that are a part of the band’s distinctive look, and not the airplane of the same name contrary to popular belief. Their quirky take on the emerging new wave and unusual guitar tunings set them apart from the pack.

The band gained popularity pretty much from it’s inception, but couldn’t break into the US top 40 charts until their 1989 release ‘Cosmic Thing’ which contained the infamous track ‘Love Shack’ which landed at number 3 on the billboard charts. A few months later in early 1990 ‘Roam’ which was also on ‘Cosmic Thing’ reached number 3 on the US charts as well.

Though the band had been around for more than a decade, 1989 - 1990 was manys first introduction to the band, which is a shame because their earlier material didn’t get much radio play in the U.S. Although Australia had been big supports of the band pretty much from the beginning. Here’s a few of my favorite cuts from the B-52’s.

MP3:  The B-52’s - Give Me Back My Man

MP3:  The B-52’s - Legal Tender

MP3:  The B-52’s - Private Idaho

MP3:  The B-52’s - Summer Of Love

MP3:  The B-52’s - 52 Girls
Listen to the intro on this then listen to DJ Shadows ‘Six Days’ (Soulwax remix)

Electroclash artists Chicks on Speed recognize the importance of B-52’s and in 2000 the released a collection of B-52’s covers on an album titled Chix-52. Their rendition of ‘Give Me Back My Man’ is excellent.

MP3:  Chicks On Speed - Give Me Back My Man

The B-52’s released a collection of hits from the past on a cd titled ‘Time Capsule: Songs For A Future Generation’ in 1998. That can be picked up here. If you hit up your local record store you can usually find used 12 inches for a few bucks. I saw ‘Party Mix’ and Whammy at the On The Corner Music on my last visit, all you non-locals hit up ebay.
