Teenagersintokyo - Very Vampire, Robocat (The Knifemachine remix)

Australia’s Teenagersintokyo captured the indienet’s attention when they released their single ‘Ended It Tonight’ December of last year. The coven has briefly ventured out from their crypt and released their self titled debut EP containing five songs filled with evil imagery.

From start to finish the disc ranges from dark and scary on ‘Very Vampyr’ to the mysterious and airy ‘Death Rides A Horse’. At times I can’t help but be reminded of Siouxsie & The Banshees and I couldn’t be more in awe.

The The Knifemachine has produced a dastardly remix of Robocat which could easily be the soundtrack to your worst nightmare.

Their debut self-titled EP is now available in stores nationwide in Australia. They also have handmade t’s up for sale, one of which boasts a gigantic tooth. You know were gonna have to get us a few of those. Email merch@teenagersintokyo.com for more info.

If you happen to be one of the lucky devils living or traveling in Australia this New Years Eve, Teenagersintokyo are playing with Van She, Lost Valentinos, Bagraiders, The Knifemachine & more. If that lineup isn’t a sign of the apocalypse, I don’t know what is.

Buy Teenagersintokyo’s EP and add them on myspace or you will undoubtedly die in your sleep.

Buy Now (Sebastian Ingrosso & Steve Angello): ‘For Sale’ remixes by Felix da Housecat, Henrik B & Plec / ‘Body Crash’ Flufftronix Edit

For a minute, Buy Now was my secret weapon. Swedish house heavyweights Sebastian Ingrosso & Steve Angello, collectively know as Buy Now are masters of their niché. Their ‘For Sale’ is the perfect blend of progression, synth and the all-important cowbell. Well now let’s open up the arsenal and get all NRA with it! For a track first surfacing in 2005, this one sounds like it was made tomorrow. Secret weapon declassified:

MP3: Buy Now - For Sale

But that’s not all—2007 saw a couple heavyweight remixes by Chicago houser Felix da Housecat and a collaboration between Swede housers Henrik B & Plec (who also does metal—undoubtedly the one who threw down the heavy guitars)

MP3: Buy Now - For Sale (Felix Da Housecat Remix)

MP3: Buy Now - For Sale (Henrik B and Plec Remix)

In 2006, Buy Now put out a “bookend-style” track called ‘Sold’. Which is better: ‘For Sale’ or ‘Sold’. I dunno, you tell us!

MP3: Buy Now - Sold (Original Mix Edit)

Ok, coolness tracks right? But maybe you’re wondering “why now?” Well, Buy Now are back with a new track, ‘Body Crash’ slated for an early ‘08 release. And just today, our boy Flufftronix took the as-yet-unreleased Buy Now single and beefed up the drums. It’s charmingly bootleg to the core—produced from a radio rip (un-released! duh!). But, do you know what? The levels sound pretty damned good; I guess when you’re a Low-Bee board Ol’ Head, you can do that kind of wacky audio alchemy:

MP3: Buy Now - Body Crash (Flufftronix Bootleg Edit)

I won’t post ‘Body Crash’ original until a legit version shows itself—however—I will point you in the direction of the zShare link to hear the rip from Pete Tong’s Radio 1 program.

Want some records? Juno’s got a grip on these fellas.

Maral Salmassi / Remixes by Trashtalk, Zero Cash & Ben Mono

Maral Salmassi is one fine specimen. Hailing from Cologne, Germany, and dropping wax on Television Rocks, this DJ/Producer/Rapper makes electro-gone-rap that we can get into. She’s a little crass, but that’s just the way we like ‘em. Yo DJs, play this one at yr club. Drunks love to be told to rub their butt on stuff! It’s a banger remix by Berlin-based producer Trashtalk:

MP3: Maral Salmassi - Back Up Your Ass (Trashtalk Remix)

Maral Salmassi’s newest single is ‘Natural Fun’, more of the same style. But that style is so stylish we don’t mind—not even slightly. Not one, but two remixes to hit you up side the head. Two loving slaps from Germany: These versions come from Cologne’s Zero Cash and Munich’s Ben Mono. The Ben Mono remix ain’t nothing new if you troll the blogospehere—but that Zero Cash mix is prime & fresh (Ben Mono remix? OMG that’s, like, so 6 weeks ago!).

MP3: Maral Salmassi - Natural Fun (Zero Cash Remix)

MP3: Maral Salmassi - Natural Fun (Ben Mono Remix)

And before you think Maral Salmassi is all remix-smoke-&-mirrors, here’s a pair to set you right. Plain as day.

MP3: The Teenagers - Starlett Johansson (Les Petits Pilous Remix)

MP3: The Teenagers - Homecoming (Yuksek & Brodinski Remix)

Also, a new CFCF remix that’s hot as shit, but we can’t share it because of teh labelz don’t wants it.

But, don’t fret too much. Here’s some other commissioned Teenz remixes we’ve impatiently been sitting on for a long time due to more label shenanigans. Now The Teenz gave us a thumbs up, so please enjoy! One remix for one of our very favorite Aussies, Van She and another for recently mentioned electro-indie L.A. hipsters Shiny Toy Guns:

Gossip - Yr Mangeld Heart (Guns N Bombs Trashbags remix)

Gossip’s Standing In The Way of Control (Soulwax Nite version) came out over a year ago but track still get dropped regularly in DJ’s sets across the nation. It was believed that that remix was the remix to end all remixes. However, Johnny Love & Turbotito of LA based Guns N Bombs have put the forks in another Gossip remix that gives SITWOC some stiff competition.

Yr Mangled Heart‘ is just as soulful as any other Gossip song and with Beth Ditto belting out the high’s on top of the pulsing bassline; it’s damn near perfection.

If you’ve got an ex, leave this on their answering machine and make them all melancholy and nostalgic for your relationship. And if they call you back, immediately hang up. Player shit.

MP3:  Gossip - Yr Mangled Heart (Guns N Bombs Trashbags remix)
Removed by request

Gossip is currently touring New Zealand then Australia. The next scheduled show is Saturday in Auckland. You can purchase most of Gossip’s discography here. We’ve got more Gossip in our archives than an eighth grade locker room. And we’ve got more Guns N Bombs than the US Navy.

BODYHEAT: Boom Bip, San Serac, Codebreaker, James F Freidman (12/7/07) [SF]

This Friday, December 7th come enjoy a Special Edition of BODYHEAT at the Elbo Room with Boom Bip (LA/Lex), San Serac (Boston/Output), Codbreaker (Milwaukee/Disco Destruction) with Special Guest James Fucking Friedman (Throne of Blood/XLR8R)!!!

We’ve been fans of Boom Bip’s unique blend of IDM/hip hop-esque beats for years. They even did an album with Anticon’s Dose which was a must have for backpack indie rap fansboys like myself. But it appears Boom Bip has been bitten the electro bug and have been producing some dope shit for the club.

MP3:  Boom Bip - Snook Adis

And I can’t post about Boom Bip without including my favorite remix by them of indie darling Her Space Holiday. It’s an oldie, but always a goodie.

MP3:  Her Space Holiday - The Luxury Of Loneliness (Boom Bip Remix)

The one man party that is San Serac has been wowing party go-ers everywhere with his ‘Sexy Synth’ sound since his ‘Professional’ album dropped last year.

MP3:  San Serac - Fairlight [96 kbps]

Milwaukee duo Codbreaker has been funking up and down the west, gaining fans everywhere they go. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Hot Chip, Datarock, Chromeo, The Silverspun Pickups, Har Mar Superstar, The Electric Six & more.

MP3:  Codebreaker - Exiled (Miami Horror remix)

James Fucking Friedman is a DJ who hails from Brooklyn NY and represents Throne of Blood & MAS-Forever, who as you know, is BFF’s with The Rapture

JFK (Jesse F. Keeler) of MSTRKRFT/Death From Above 1979 remixes Bloc Party & Mr. Miyagi

The Canadian duo MSTRKRFT gave the electro world a shock with their last album ‘The Looks‘ which was filled to the brim with hits. Fans have been fiending for something new from their camp ever since. Word on the e-street is that the pair is in currently in the studio working on their follow up album. We eagerly await.

Fortunately MSTRKRFT’s JFK has been blessed the blogoshpere’s ears with two dancefloor ready remixes; one of UK based indie rockers Bloc Party and another of Swedish electro knockers Mr. Miyagi.

MP3:  Bloc Party - Flux (JFK remix)

MP3:  Mr. Miyagi - Pick Your Poison (JFK Remix)

If you don’t have MSTRKRFT’s full length ‘The Looks’ don’t admit it, just go get yourself a copy here and pretend you got it the day it came out.

Bloc Party is on myspace of course. Mr. Miyagi is currently touring Sweden, check them out if you are able. If you can’t make it be sure to download their Super Mega Laser Mix.

Old Rap Wednesdays: RIP Pimp C of UGK (Under Ground Kingz)

Pimp C, or Chad Butler—one half of the classic Texas rap duo UGK, died at the age of 33 in his Mondrian Hotel room in Hollywood this morning. Just three days after what was to be his final show with Too $hort at the House of Blues. The pair were also at work on an album together.

Pimp C and his long standing partner and friend Bun B formed UGK made their first major noise with ‘Something Good’, on Jive Records (back when it was still a legitimate rap label).

MP3: UGK - Something Good (1992)

UGK has been a staple of Hip Hop since, but with Pimp C’s untimely death this morning, UGK has ostensibly come to its end. But looking back to better days, my favorite UGK track is the ‘93 single ‘Pocket Full of Stones’, which is heard on the Menace II Society soundtrack. Pimp C was the producer of many UGK tracks including ‘Pocket Full of Stones’, and produced several additional remixes, including this very appropriate one that, tonight, sounds like a eulogy:

MP3: UGK - Pocket Full of Stones (1993)

MP3: UGK - Pocket Full of Stones (Pimp C Remix) (1993)

Pimp C is most known for his appearances on Jay-Z’s 2000 single ‘Big Pimpin” and Three 6 Mafia’s 2000 single ‘Sippin’ On Da Syrup’ (aka ‘Sizzurp’). But, Pimp C has collaborated with many artists, most interestingly, UGK collaborated with UK Grime’s highest superstar Dizzee Rascal on his most recent ‘Maths + English’ album. UGK sounds at home on the track:

MP3: Dizzee Rascal - Where’s Da G’s (feat. Bun B & Pimp C) (2007)

I grew up a hip hop head and on a steam of UGK on cassette tapes. Free Pimp C… Pimp C is now free.

If you’re a Hip Hop fan, get your library right with the ‘Best of’ UGK album that came out a while back. It’s solid and it’s on Amazon.

Visit Pimp C’s MySpace page and leave your messages of support.
