Liverpudlian synthpopers Ladytron have a glorious return to form with their brand new track, ‘Black Cat’, the opener of the yet-to-be released fourth studio album, ‘Velocifero’ (full tracklisting on Wikipedia). The new record is produced by Ladytron with assistance from Ed Banger’s Vicaraous Bliss, Jim Abbiss of Arctic Monkeys production fame, and Alessandro Cortini (currently of seminal Industrial band Nine Inch Nails). The single ‘Black Cat’ carries a gothic synthpop sweetness with morose-toned Bulgarian verses from ‘tron’s Mira Aroyo.
The full-length ‘Velocifero’ has a street date of June 3rd and will be released on Nettwerk, the groups’ first for the label (Nettwerk was one of the first labels to abolish DRM and incredibly, paid legal defense for a teen downloader sued by the RIAA).
Ladytron always sounds better in bunches, so enjoy these—some we’ve posted before, some you’re likely to have heard before—all should be heard again. …These are remix collaborations with London new wavers Playgroup & Chicaco house heavyweight Felix Da Housecat, as well as Nine Inch Nails and Vicarious Bliss:
Will N.Y.’s Moby ever not be relevant? His acute sense for great pop, masterful techno, skillful songwriting, and his willingness to take risks is what keeps the man moving forward, this, eighteen years after his initial release ‘Mobility’. Mute will release Moby’s eighth studio album, ‘Last Night’ this March 31st, following the recently released first single ‘Alice’ and the just-released second single ‘Disco Lies’.
The grading curve is very high on ‘Last Night’, and picking singles must have been quite the task with such a solid record. ‘Alice’ is set apart with vocals from UK reggae artist Aynzli Jones and rappers S.O.Simple & Smokey of Nigerian rap group 419 Squad—the results approach a classic trip hop sound. While the ‘Alice’ single gets additional remix work, most notably by our hero, NY’s versitle EDM kingpin and Trouble&Bass‘r, Drop The Lime (a.k.a. Curses!).
Our love for trippy Londoner songstress Martina Topley Bird runs deep (we told you so), as does our lust for Aussie techno-shoegazers Van She, that’s why I was ecstatic when I heard the sexy pair went half on a music baby (and don’t forget Danger Mouse did the original production for one hot Ménage à trois)! The tune came on my radio last this last Friday, part of The Crystal Method’s exceptionally good radio program “Community Service Radio” for Indie 103.1 (they stream it online, yo!). I immediately set out get that track(!), but sadly, it was beyond my reach. …Until now. Low and behold what’s just found its way to the ‘toofbox:
We likes it! The full ‘Poison’ single drops on May 5th with an additional remix by British electro-rockers The Officers. Martina’s full length ‘The Blue God’ following up shortly after on May 12th, both released on London’s Independiente.
Hamburg, Germany’s Fukkk Offf, comes with menacing electro house, befitting for such a person effectively called “fuck off”. And much like the girls at the club who tell me those same words, I hear Fukkk Offf and it just makes me want more and more. Punish your ears with these delightful headbangers. First up, a brand new heater from Television Rocks artist and Cologne party-chick Maral Salmassi, of which you should already be acquainted from this not-too-distant post where we featured the original ‘Fire Gem’.
Thank you sir may I have another? Last year Fukkk Offf broke on the scene with two singles, ‘I’m A Freak’ for NY’s Coco Machete Records (for whom he also remixed D’ Secret SVC) and ‘The Bottom’ for Skjöldmusic (formerly Hammarskjöld).
Philly representer, Nate Day, comes correct on his new “Everywhere LA is 30 Minutes” mix. Nate Day recently moved to LA and the title is a keen observation of life in a new place. Given this truth, the runtime of this mix is just perfect for the ride. It’s my current soundtrack for dancing in traffic. Get yr swerve on. It’s eclectic. It’s hectic. It’s dope.

Hey you, yea you… We’re piggybacking off the last post featuring Paparazzi’s remix of Kill The Noise, with this, Paparazzi co-conspirator and ALT-to-LA transplant, Le Castle Vania’s take on KTN’s ‘Hey You’. Le Castle Vania gives some hard electro frequencies and atmospheric bridges for the big room riiiiinse out.
And here’s some more stuff we seriously slept on sharing, Le Castle Vania’s collaboration with Blake Miller of dance-rock stronghold Moving Units, collectively knows as Lies in Disguise. The duo hit on something great with their first remix for London electro kids, PARTYSHANK, on ‘Penis VS Vagina’ late last year and again, recently, with their remix of masked Frenchman The Toxic Avenger’s electro-thrasher ‘Poker Face’.
A staple of the L.A. club scene, DJ Paparazzi is DJ, producer, arranger and club promoter.
Until yesterday, the last we’ve heard from the man was his ‘Yummy Knockout’ edit of Gwen Stefani’s ‘Yummy’ which smashes it up against Cirez D’s (a.k.a. Eric Prydz) ‘Knockout’. We threw that little jam on this here blog not once but twice.
But this is today, and Paparazzi has shared with us his newest remixes—putting his twist on two of our the best things out there: Rochester NY’s finest club wrecker Kill The Noise and the ice creamy, dreamy, LA to NY electro punks Hearts Revolution. Epic win.
Paparazzi is resident DJ and ringleader at club DANCE at one of LA’s Arena in Los Angeles. It’s a lax 18+ to dance, 21+ to drink. Admittedly, the soundsystem is one of L.A.’s very best. If your curious peep the club’s MySpace or the official site, DanceAtArena.com for mo’ info & club photos.
Let me wrap this up with Paparazzi edit of the late great country & western hero Johnny Cash’s ‘Get Rhythm’ from 2006. Get yr toes tappin’ to teh rhythemzzz.
URB Magazine and TS1 kick-off the annual Winter Music Conference week with the exclusive performance of electro-godfather DJ Hell, Tommie Sunshine, Jesse Rose, LA Riots, Treasure Fingers and James F!@#$%^ Friedman and the Miami debut of BLOW UP DJZ!
For 15 years, URB Magazine deliveres the authentic voice to music simmering below the surface. TS1 helmed by Sean Patrick is like a roaming art exhibit housed inside of a bar bringing true LA (not Hollywood) culture to Miami.
Dance party time! Santa Barbara’s DJ Magneto and Montreal QB’s DJ Mayday come with a hodgepodge of club jams, flawlessly moving from house to Bmore, to electro, to hip hop, to jungle, to dubstep, to electro to friggin’ Peter Gabriel & Phil Collins. Trust me on this one—the stew is good.
You’ll notice guest intro from Portland’s Spinnaface (dude’s got a spinner…for his face!), and some hype party raps and drops from L.A.’s Whiskey Pete (whom you should remember from the Villains ‘Vol. 1′ Mix which we unleashed on the world last year) alongside MC Dino (arguably one of the America’s best jungle MCs crosses over to the neonside).

Like you, we have girlfriends, ex-girlfriends, stalkees, stalkers, parents, teachers, taxes, bosses, bills and probation officers that sometimes eat up way more time than we would like. Which leads to our sometimes incommunicado status. We apologize. Real life sucks. The internet is way better.
Now that that’s out of the way, in our absence we got a lot done. We sponsored a few showcases at SXSW, djayed a few gigs around town including one with The Rapture, we got interviewed in BPM, Kittens f.k.a. ‘Bumpsdick’ made a new Missingtoof logo (which you can see in the image above) and our boy Basura laid down this brand new Official Missingtoof Mix in hopes that y’all will forgive us for being mad M.I.A.
Without further ado we present The March Toof Mix.
