Will N.Y.’s Moby ever not be relevant? His acute sense for great pop, masterful techno, skillful songwriting, and his willingness to take risks is what keeps the man moving forward, this, eighteen years after his initial release ‘Mobility’. Mute will release Moby’s eighth studio album, ‘Last Night’ this March 31st, following the recently released first single ‘Alice’ and the just-released second single ‘Disco Lies’.
The grading curve is very high on ‘Last Night’, and picking singles must have been quite the task with such a solid record. ‘Alice’ is set apart with vocals from UK reggae artist Aynzli Jones and rappers S.O.Simple & Smokey of Nigerian rap group 419 Squad—the results approach a classic trip hop sound. While the ‘Alice’ single gets additional remix work, most notably by our hero, NY’s versitle EDM kingpin and Trouble&Bass‘r, Drop The Lime (a.k.a. Curses!).
After a week of downtime guess who’s back in the internet house?! That’s right, we’ve pretty much squared away all the server nonsense and we’re back in full effect. If you tried to email us last night between 8-10 and the mail bounced back it’s because we were re-configuring the mail server. Send it again!
But other than that, you’d better make some room on those ipod’s cuz we’ve got a lot of catching up to do. To quote the always relevant Fugees ‘Ready Or Not Here We Come’.
‘Ready or Not’ is off The Fugees 1996 ‘The Score’. If your copy of the CD got lost, stolen or spent too much time on the floor of your backseat you can pick up a fresh copy here. Visit Luca a.k.a. Drop Lime Lime on his M-space to partake in some more drum n bass’d up work.
I know you fools have been saying you’re ready, but really, are you? Can you ever really fully prepare yourself for the madness that is about to take place at the Mezzanine this Friday?! I think not! That’s right, Paris Terror Club comes to town for the biggest Robot Rock to date!
Behold the line up to end all line ups! Trouble & Bass prodigal son Curses! a.k.a. Drop The Lime, Institubes ambassadors Surkin, Para One, & Orgasmic, Walter Meego & the Bay Area’s favorite dance rockers, VHS or Beta.
I know you’re drooling right now just reading this post, trying to plan out what you’re gonna wear. But here, let me tantalize you some more with a few of the jams that will definitely have your ears ringing well into next week.
HEALTH has been kicking L.A.’s underground scene in the balls for more than little while now. In the latter half of July we told you about a rumor that Curses! (a.k.a. Drop The Lime) was remixing the Los Angeles noise-making quartet and today it has been confirmed! Listen to the prophesied track in all it’s glory.
HEALTH are soon to embark on a 40 day US tour, be sure to watch out for them when they come to wreck shop on your town. Here are some more HEALTH goodies which we couldn’t help but post, including the now blogfamous CFCF remix of Triceratops which give me nightmares, but in a good way.
Lovepump Unlimited released a HEALTH/Crystal Castles 7 inch split which you can get here. Older HEALTH releases can be found at http://www.dntrecords.com/. More noisy tracks on HEALTH’s myspace.
Yeah we just posted some Drop The Lime the other day & we’re posting some mo’. But we just gotsta. We’ve had the ‘Let’s Lasertag Sometime’ compilation from Tigerbeat6 for some time now, we even wrote a post on it.
But you know how you buy a shitload of cd’s and once and you give them all a few listens, then they get lost among the masses. Well, that happened with this CD. From the tracklist I knew it was gonna be an awesome comp & it is, but I was cleaning up the apartment the other day & found CD again & threw it in the stereo & I’m hooked. So this weeks Mad Repeaterz track is DTL’s Butterscotch.
Bass heavy champion and Trouble & Bass curator Drop The Lime has been messing up your parents car stereo speakers for a few years now. Recently he’s been headlining many a party including Modulars party in NYC. Aside from producing his own heavy hitting tracks he’s real savvy with the remixes as well. Listen to him manhandle these 80’s classics like they didn’t have dinner on the table when he got home from his job at the factory.
Them Jeans & Antimc also did a remix of Europe’s Final Countdown. Grab that here. I’m waiting for someone to bust out a Mr. Mister remix. What’s up y’all?
EDIT: Institubes’ label manager asked us to take down ‘Hungry 4 Love’ because they are releasing it next month. Until then, visit Curses! myspace to stream more tracks!
If you don’t got it, you’re trippin’. Simian Mobile Disco, Fox n’ Wolf, Klaxons, Dead Disco, Valentinos, Freeform Five, Gossip, Boys Noize & Digitalism… It’s a veritable who’s who in the indie/disco/dance punk scene.
None of the Kitsune comps have let you down thus far. Neither will this one.
Bay area’s Kid606 runs Tigerbeat6 & has been doing a bang up job. With artists like Quintron & Miss Pussycat, Drop The Lime, Cex, Numbers, Eats Tapes & Soft Pink truth, you know Tigerbeat6 will be around to crash your party & sleep on your couch for a while.
Impeccable DJ sets by New York City’s own Syrup Girls & Drop The Lime. DTL & SG’s definitely do not skimp on the exclusive tracks, remixes & white labels in these mixes. They cover all the subjects, electro-house to grime to booty-bass. It’s like a cheat sheet for your next DJ set.
Sorry, you guys are gonna have to buy the CD for the tracklist!
