Jim Starck: ‘Gunman’ EP / Thieves Like Us ‘Drugs in My Body (Jim Starck Remix)

jimstarck Jim Starck: Gunman EP / Thieves Like Us Drugs in My Body (Jim Starck Remix)

Jim Starck is the Phillippe Starck of fucking dance music. What’s that mean? It means Jim Starck is a craftsman of sleek and fashionable EDM tunes. (But it doesn’t mean I think they’re related).

Jim Starck and his Electroluxe Family helping to usher in Quatre Records as a new favorite French techno/electro label. If you’ve been paying attention, we got excited when Quatre brought us, fellow Electrolux Fam., D*L*i*d’s remix of Kris Kross‘ classic, ‘Jump’ (get it here). But we were hooked from the first Fam. cut ‘Rock That Shit’ (which also had a hittin’ Vicarious Bliss remix you can grab right here).

Jim Starck’s ‘Gunman’ EP was released last week, and we caught the blast like a double barrel of buckshot.

And this one is for all the ladies in my neighborhood. Jim Starck bought the present—and the card—but I’m adding my name to it, with love.

Lastly, let’s bring this one back to life. It briefly appeared in our big ol’ Thieves Like Us ‘Drugs in My Body’ remix post (here), but we pulled it down so it might still have a go in the official remix contest by Kitsune. Now Rochelle has won the thing, but that doesn’t make this mix any less of a favorite.

Thieves Like Us - ‘Drugs in My Body’ remixes from Electroluxe Family’s Jim Starck, Sir Graves, Clique Talk & Popes on Dope

thieveslikeus Thieves Like Us - Drugs in My Body remixes from Electroluxe Familys Jim Starck, Sir Graves, Clique Talk & Popes on Dope

Now Kitsune and Thieves Like Us are just wrapping up their ‘Drugs In My Body’ remix contest advertised here (actually, the contest ends today, so hurry up if it’s news to you!). Every bedroom producer and their second-cousin has a remix or a remix-in-progress, and now they’re coming out of the woodwork!

Thieves Like Us hail from Sweden and the US, met in Berlin and now reside in Manhattan. They make sweet indie-pop and sprinkle it with references to stuff like drugs that give it another layer of flavor—one that might make you see double.

We’ve been championing France’s Electroluxe Family this month, since that just perfect Kris Kross remix we put up last week, and now Jim Stark of the Electroluxe Fam. threw this remix at us to whet our appetite for his upcoming ‘Gunman’ EP.

Another super hot club version comes courtesy of L.A.’s own Sir Graves. L.A.’s finest Mike B of Mike B vs. Dickie G hipped me to this and he certifies it gets dance floors moving. Dude would know, trust.

Those remixes are apples and the following are oranges. Where those are for the club, these are for moody brooding on the mellow tip. One remix from Clique Talk (who BiBaBiDi turned us on to) and another from Popes on Dope (a.k.a. the guys behind Certified Banger and Eclectic Hermit)

Lastly, the B-side to the original 2006 release of ‘Drugs in My Body’ is ‘Fass’. Absolute feel good music:

Kris Kross - ‘Jump’ remixed by D*L*i*d of Electroluxe Family / Electroluxe Family - ‘Rock That Shit’ with Vicarious Bliss Remix

kriskross Kris Kross - Jump remixed by D*L*i*d of Electroluxe Family / Electroluxe Family - Rock That Shit with Vicarious Bliss Remix

Oh man, D*L*i*d sure knows how to get on our good side! Not only is he putting out wicked electro tracks with the Electroluxe Family on French label Quatre Records, but homeboy just did a little remix of Kris Kross‘ 1992 hit, ‘Jump’ that retains everything great about the original but adds just enough crunchy electro blips and beats. I love that it’s not overly done. J.U.M.P. for joy! Missingtoof will always have a soft-spot for those precocious little bastards! Kris Kross 4 ever. Another Bad Creation can suck an egg. Inside-out? What the hell is that?

And for any of you DJs that wanna get clever, here’s the O.G. instrumental with hooks:

Now we gave you a little info on the Electroluxe Family a few months back when we put up their superb ‘Rock that Shit’ track, as remixed by Ed Banger heads Vicarious Bliss. If you forgot, get rememberin’! Also, let’s add the original ’cause it was hot to begin with:

Electrolux Family - Rock That Shit (Vicarious Bliss remix)

rockout Electrolux Family - Rock That Shit (Vicarious Bliss remix)

Electrolux Family is a group of Frenchies who are purveyors of nothing but electro bangers. They recently released an EP titled “Rock That Shit”. The title track of the same name was remixed to hell & back by none other than Vicarious Bliss. Peep the niceness. This is dying to be in your next mix, or you are dying if you don’t use this in yours.

Aside from delivering dope ditties, they got a kick ass graphic designer on their team & we love shit like that. Bum rush the m-space to stream more material. ‘Zapping’ is no slouch of a track once it gets going.
