bjork Björk: Dull Flame of Desire remixes from Sinden & Modeselektor

Icelandic treasure, Björk—always relevant, always amazing—has always gained strength partly from knowing how to pick collaborators & partners. From husband & aberrant artist Matthew Barney to diverse creative partners like Thom Yorke, Tricky, Chris Cunningham, Lars von Trier & Spümcø just to name a small handful.

Working with only the best, Björk & London label One Little Indian have enlisted Berlin’s Modeselektor & Londoner, Sinden to remix her latest single, ‘Dull Flame of Desire’ (b/w ‘Innocence’). This is fresh from the padded mailer. You heard it here first:

Sebastien Tellier: ‘Sexuality’ sold exclusively at American Apparel

sebastientellier Sebastien Tellier: Sexuality sold exclusively at American Apparel

Parisian electro-popstar Sébastien Tellier is sexually charged. We’ve been amp’d up for the stateside release of Tellier’s third studio album, ‘Sexuality’, for months now. You’ll remember that the record is produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk fame. Well now we have it, Record Makers have given us something special for our eager hands…

Beginning this week, Sébastien Tellier’s new album, ‘Sexuality’, is available for pre-order exclusively at all American Apparel locations throughout North America. This is the first music release to be carried by the clothing store chain. ‘Sexuality’s first single, ‘Sexual Sportswear’ no doubt influenced American Apparel to secure Tellier for this exclusive deal, because, hey, sexual sportswear is AA’s business model. Additionally, American Apparel has created two limited garments, the Sexuali-Tee and Sexuali-Tank to celebrate the pairs’ tryst.

Enjoy this ‘Sexual Sportswear’ remix from Parisian producer, Donovan from the ‘Sexual Sportswear’ single.

Many of you probably heard the controversy surrounding the second ‘Sexuality’ single, ‘Divine’. It was selected to represent France at the yearly Eurovision Song Contest. ‘Divine’, which lyrics are in English, ’caused a stir as critics said it did not properly represent French music. The song was slightly altered to appease critics, but perhaps Tellier was doomed at that point, and after the May 24th performance—’Divine’ placed near the bottom (18th of 25 competitors). I see it as their mistake, as ‘Divine’ is absolute win. Enjoy this remix from Melb.’s Midnight Juggernauts, that we promised once upon a time:

MP3: Sébastien Tellier - Divine (Midnight Juggarnauts Remix)

Moar! A pair of menacing remixes from Englishman, Night Faculties serving up a hittin’ bootleg and Frenchman, Danger serving up an official EP release.

And, because Teiller is so good; moar again! Here’s another new remix of new track, ‘Kilometer’, from Berlin’s Jack Tennis.

MP3: Sébastien Tellier - Kilometer (Jack Tennis Remix)

Following Tellier’s Knitting Factory Hollywood performance on the 26th, he will be performing at the American Apparel Factory in Downtown L.A., for the 2nd annual Factory Flea Market. $5 to shop, dance and moonbounce. zomg.

The Black Ghosts: ‘Repetition Kills You (feat. Damon Albarn)’ video & remixes from Laidback Luke, Diplo & Emperor Machine

The Black Ghosts - Repetition Kills You (Dir. Sarah Hay)

Monday! It’s time for a spankin’ new video premier from London’s The Black Ghosts, in the continuing video series brought to you by The Black Ghosts and IAMSOUND records, curated by CULT-GEIST and presented jointly on Missingtoof and Big Stereo.

Today brings the video for what will be the first “official” single from the album (although the video above will not be the “official” video), ‘Repetition Kills You’, featuring the supremely talented singer (& all around rockstar), Damon Albarn of British alt-pop band, Blur & cartoon-crossover phenomenon, Gorillaz. The video is directed by Parisian music journalist & director, Sarah Hay. The video pays simultaneously homage to famous French New Wave director Jean Luc Goddard’s Bande à part film and and the classic video game Pac-Man, obviously playing off the influence of Parisian artist Invader.

Previous videos are all archived on IAMSOUND’s page on Imeem.

Please enjoy a small staple of ‘Repetition Kills You’ remixes from Netherlands’ houser, Laidback Luke, Floridian club-king Diplo and British electronica machine, Emperor Machine.

Little Boots: ‘Stuck on Repeat’ produced by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip / Dead Disco remixes from Raufast

littleboots Little Boots: Stuck on Repeat produced by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip / Dead Disco remixes from Raufast

Lend your ears to Little Boots, of Blackpool, London, who’s one solitary track is very impressive and, dare I say, an early contender for song of the year? The must have song right now? We think so! The song is ‘Stuck on Repeat’, produced by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, with vocals by one Victoria Hesketh, or Little Boots, formerly one-third of hip electro-pop indie rockers Dead Disco:

MP3: Little Boots - Stuck on Repeat

Little Boots reached out to us at the same time our friends at Big Stereo blogged the original mix, that’s been receiving gushing responses. But, Missingtoof, we held back, because the files that reached us were an unacceptable 96kbps, but now—no less than one dozen emails & forwarded contacts later—we are happy to have Little Boots, as it should be heard, in glorious 320kpbs audio. If you downloaded it before somewhere else, download it again. 96kbps is a scourge on blogtown.

Here’s another Dub mix that’s similar to the original, but just different enough for y’all to notice. Take yr pick:

MP3: Little Boots - Stuck on Repeat (Dub)

The Little Boots project may prompt questions about the state of Dead Disco. Are they no more? Are they disbanded? It’s hard to say, after Little Boots departure and a departure from 679 Recordings, Dead Disco may be down, but not necessary out. Last year’s Dead Disco hit ‘You’re Out’, with its Frankmusik remix, was one of our favorite tracks—you can download it over here. Also enjoy these other remixes from Dead Disco’s 2007 ep ‘You’re Out’ (with Victoria included). Remixes courtesy of Londoner Rufaust:

Little Boots’ ‘Stuck on Repeat’ will be released on white label wax in approximately four weeks. Sit tight at the edge of the chair. A full LP is to follow, produced by Greg Kurstin of L.A. indie rock outfit The Bird & the Bee and jazzy alt. rocker outfit Geggy Tah. Good things are coming.

Sebastien Tellier ‘Sexuality’ album produced by Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo: ‘Kilometer’, ‘Pomme’ & ‘Sexual Sportswear’ with SebastiAn remix

sebastientellier Sebastien Tellier Sexuality album produced by Daft Punks Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo: Kilometer, Pomme & Sexual Sportswear with SebastiAn remix

Sébastien Tellier, that French craftsman of sound, has created what amounts to one of the year’s first outstanding albums. With his third long player album, ‘Sexuality’, Tellier makes sensual and airy electronica with hints of French pop and a heavy dose of traditional singer/songwriter crooning. It’s Classic Tellier, and the first we’ve heard from the maestro since the Steak film score we touched on last year. More notches in the ever fuller discography of Sébastien Tellier, get fully acquainted at Discogs.

Oh, and is it worth mentioning that the ‘Sexuality’ LP is produced by the man behind the mask, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, better known as 1/2 of Daft Punk? Yes? Thought so.

Enjoy these choice cuts among an album of choice cuts. The advance album has been in my playlist almost daily for over a month now:

The album ‘Sexuality’ will be released this upcoming Monday, February 25th, on the premier label of French band AIR, Record Makers. Seriously worth your duckets, even at high stakes import prices—all that Amazon currently offers.

But before you go, for shits and giggles, and ’cause we all stay gully, here’s a mash-up from one of the few folks who’s mash-ups we always dig—The Hood Internet—fitting that #1 stunna by the name, Birdman, into some snug ‘Sexual Sportswear’:

Unsigned Hype: Ka So Re ‘Dramatically Keep You’ & ‘Greetings’

kasore Unsigned Hype: Ka So Re Dramatically Keep You & GreetingsIllustration credit: Jaakko P.

Ka So Re is the new production project of our favorite Finnish DJ, Kimarr, of ‘Pose It Up’ mixtape fame. Since arriving in our playlist last week, these tracks have really grown on us. It’s modest electro with modern hard hitting baselines and roots digging directly into classic ’80s electro stylings (OMG vocoders! Let’s boogaloo! Now!). The production is crisp for the bedroom, the dive bar, and the big room with the sound activated lazers. Say “Greetings” to Ka So Re:

Pink Skull: ‘Drugs Will Keep Us Together’ (new single with remixes by 33Hz and Trevor Loveys)

pinkskull Pink Skull: Drugs Will Keep Us Together (new single with remixes by 33Hz and Trevor Loveys)

Philadelphia’s two-man crew Pink Skull, perhaps best known for their most amazing remix of fellow Philly act Spank Rock with the so-nasty so-good rap from Amanda Blank, has triumphantly returned with ‘Drugs Will Keep Us Together’, their first release since ’06’s LP ‘Blast Yr Akk’ (although they stay busy with remixes, including the recent one for L.A.’s best HEALTH that we featured last month). ‘Drugs Will Keep Us Together’ is one tech house banger fresh from the hardware and required listening for every hardknock with an internet connection. Pink Skull delivers not only the grinding frequencies and fierce basslines, but melodic hand-in-the-air synth rifts on top. Is this modern day psychedelica? Go pop some allergy medication, crank that Pink Skull and cuddle with your man ’cause drugs (and dance music) will keep y’all together.

MP3: Pink Skull - Drugs Will Keep Us Together

The upcoming single, released on Brooklyn label/collective The Savant Guard will also feature remixes by NYC electronic producer 33Hz (with a little help from Ming of Ming+FS fame, if understand correctly) and another British techno/house Trevor Loveys, aka 1/2 of Speakerjunk. This product ain’t free here, but you can sample the full-length goods at Pink Skull’s page on The Savant Guard.

Dropping March 24th, the new single will be available on all the typical online avenues: Beatport, iTunes, Amazon, etc. via top notch distributor IODA. And for the 12″ fiends, your favorite record shops should have you covered, pressed up on Music Response UK vinyl.

And before you go, remind yourself how amazing this aforementioned Philly classic is:

Hot Chip: ‘Ready for the Floor’ with remixes by Diplo, Soulwax, Jesse Rose & Marian Pramberger / Hot Chip’s remix of Amy Winehouse’s ‘Rehab’

hotchip Hot Chip: Ready for the Floor with remixes by Diplo, Soulwax, Jesse Rose & Marian Pramberger / Hot Chips remix of Amy Winehouses Rehab

British indietronica boys Hot Chip new record, ‘Made in the Dark’ dropped last week and, oh man, it’s the jam. Released on Astralwerks (they can do no wrong!), ‘Made in the Dark’ takes us through the the dark and the light—providing soft and thoughtful hymns that leave our ears dilated and inexpectant for the next blazing and glorious indie/dance groove. In other terms, the new record is a exciting and joyful music journey.

Anyone recall, ‘Shake a Fist’ that we hosted briefly last year? That track holds down track 2 among thirteen. Still fantastic, but let’s have another, a beautiful indie pop song titled, ‘Ready for the Floor’, with it’s official remixes by Floridian Hollertronix homeboy Diplo, the undeniably supreme Ghentlemen Soulwax and German houser Jesse Rose. Additionally a fine bootleg electro remix from one Marian Pramberger out of Austria.

And for good measure—because we’re still not sick of this remix, and ’cause our missingtoof girl got a buncha Grammys last week—we’re bringing back Hot Chip’s remix of ‘Rehab’. So heat.

Jeremy - Pipemix / Remix of Busy P’s ‘Chop Suey’

jeremy Jeremy - Pipemix / Remix of Busy Ps Chop Suey

Jeremy is from Sydney. He is 18 years old and loves to DJ. He is not to be confused with the Norwegian indie/folk band of the same name.

Jeremy is without a gimicky namesake, and we find that refreshing (with the aforementioned band, “Jeremy” it is a gimmick because no one in the band has that name).

A good mix is a good mix, no matter what you call yourself—be it what’s on your passport or DJ MegaAwesomeDJ. And Jeremy’s mix sounds good.

Jeremy’s ‘Pipemix’ is thrown down in Ableton Live for extra freshness. The mix has a underlying idea of a musical journey grounded in electro. The ‘Pipemix’ borrows a familiar sample from ‘Super Mario Bros.’—that of Mario descending down the pipe after a completed level. Jeremy “added those as a signifier for when the sound is going to change dramatically, similar to going into a pipe in Mario and coming out in a different world with different music.”

A mix with a theory? This ol’ college boy ain’t mad at it.

More than anything, the tracklist is everything I want to hear right now and nothing that I don’t.
