Guns’n'Bombs: ‘Disco Night @ The Big Horse’ mix / Acid Girls, Ghostface Killah, The Cult & Junior Senior remixes

L.A.’s Guns’N'Bombs are wise old record collectors. You probably know they crank out the finest gentleman’s techno, but did you know that they do the disco? The folks at Echo Park Records gave us this mix last week and it’s been the rotation for summer ever since.

Out of the retro mode here’s some more good stuff in the form of a remix of Guns’N'Bombs Kitsune debut, ‘Nothing is Getting Us Anywhere’ from more of L.A.’s best, Acid Girls.

MP3: Guns’N'Bombs - Nothing is Getting Us Anywhere (Acid Girls Remix)

Can’t neglect these Guns’N'Bombs remixes, an eclectic array of mixes for my hip-hop uncle (I wish), Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah, iconic goth-rock band, The Cult and poppy Junior Senior (of which the ‘Bombs Turbotito was a member). All recommended:

Guns’n'Bombs: TransMusicales 2008 Mix (again!)

Ok, so I posted this a couple days ago with a truncated mp3. Sorriez everybody! Please make sure you download again to get it legit!

Los Angeles based Guns’n'Bombs are a win. Signed to French label en vogue, Kitsune. They are first-rate producers, arena-worthy DJs and the self-proclaimed “Lords of Blogtown” (rightfully so!).

Fresh off their US tour supporting German electro/techno maestros Digitalism, G’n'B have laced us up with this recent live recording from a few months back, in December, at Rennes, France’s premier 3-day indie music festival, TransMusicales. The mix is raw-fresh with a little old school Chicago house (Armando), little tecktonik (Dirty South), little indie dance rock (Muscles)… A little of this, a little of that—all banger.

Tracklist:

  1. The Teenagers - Homecoming (Guns’n'Bombs 1996 XTC Rmx)
  2. Monologic - Maximum
  3. Quarter - Mason (The Subs Remix)
  4. Radioclit - Mature Macho Machine (Solid Groove & Sinden Remix)

Gossip - ‘Yr Mangeld Heart’ remixes from Guns’N'Bombs, Tiga & Si McEvoy / ‘Listen Up!’ Punks Jump Up remix

The Gossip post redux! Last month we got excited and posted a high-quality track (with the player move) a little too early and had to pull it down (see post). Well, now it’s all smoothed over and this track deserves one more go around. It’s L.A.’s Guns’N'Bombs take on ‘Yr Mangled Heart’, released on Back Yard Recordings:

MP3: The Gossip - Yr Mangled Heart (Guns’N'Bombs Trashbags Remix)

How awesome is that? Gossip’s vocalist Beth Ditto is a soulful rocker who just happens to lend herself perfectly to dance music too. So well in fact, that we can’t stop there—here’s another pair of licks off the ‘Yr Mangled Heart’ singles that comes from electro kingpin and Montreal native Tiga and Guildford, UK houser Si McEvoy. Wait for the break, y’all:

MP3: The Gossip - Yr Mangled Heart (Tiga’s Congobreak)

MP3: The Gossip - Yr Mangled Heart (Si McEvoy Trash Fash Remix)

Also, last year’s ‘Listen Up! single. Produced some heated remixes from MSTRKRFT, The Black Ghosts, and this funky burner from crass London electro heads Punks Jump Up:

Gossip - Yr Mangeld Heart (Guns N Bombs Trashbags remix)

Gossip’s Standing In The Way of Control (Soulwax Nite version) came out over a year ago but track still get dropped regularly in DJ’s sets across the nation. It was believed that that remix was the remix to end all remixes. However, Johnny Love & Turbotito of LA based Guns N Bombs have put the forks in another Gossip remix that gives SITWOC some stiff competition.

Yr Mangled Heart‘ is just as soulful as any other Gossip song and with Beth Ditto belting out the high’s on top of the pulsing bassline; it’s damn near perfection.

If you’ve got an ex, leave this on their answering machine and make them all melancholy and nostalgic for your relationship. And if they call you back, immediately hang up. Player shit.

Gossip is currently touring New Zealand then Australia. The next scheduled show is Saturday in Auckland. You can purchase most of Gossip’s discography here. We’ve got more Gossip in our archives than an eighth grade locker room. And we’ve got more Guns N Bombs than the US Navy.

Guns’N'Bombs: Mixtape #3

I haven’t slept in 24 hours, and this Monday is gonna suck! But it’s okay, because I have Kitsune playboys Guns’N'Bombs new Mixtape #3 on repeat! Fuck a sleep! Guns’N'Bombs Mixtape #3 is the most bananas-est, balls-to-the-walls mix we’ve heard in a minute. My ear wax is boiling, dunny! This shit is hot!

The mix was recorded for L.A. radio station Indie 103.1’s Saturday night electro show Neon Noise. Fluokids got the master recording and spread the word—Now we’re running with it, because, well, Guns’N'Bombs are some the very best L.A. has to offer and we’d be ashamed not be pushing these goods. As Guns’N'Bombs’ Johnny “Guns” Love and Turbo Tito‘, long-standing slogan goes, “All bangers. No mash.” This is Techno and House done proper. Take yr mash and shove it.

Chromeo: “Tenderoni” video & remixes / “Fancy Footwork” remixes

Chromeo - Tenderoni

Chromeo is the duo of fantastically talented best-friends Dave 1 & P-Thugg. They are frequently referenced for their only-half-way-kidding self-description of being, “the only successful Arab and Jewish collaboration since the beginning of time!” Dave is the Jew and Pee is the Arab, but I don’t care about no things but the music!

Chromeo is back in 2007 with their critically-acclaimed sophomore album, ‘Fancy Footwork’. An album that follows “Electrofunk” trend established with their debut album, 2004’s ‘She’s in Control’.

The video above is their first official video from ‘Fancy Footwork’. Directed by Jérémie Rozan & Martial Schmeltz with the Surface To Air agency in Paris, ‘Tenderoni’ is fun and fresh. Surface to Air is also responsible for all the recent Chromeo artwork for the singles and album, not to mention a little video called ‘Never Be Alone‘ by Justice vs Simian.

Take the tune from the video with you. You love it! Or, maybe you’ll like the MSTRKRFT or Sinden remix instead?

MP3: Chromeo - Tenderoni

MP3: Chromeo - Tenderoni (MSTRKRFT Remix)

MP3: Chromeo - Tenderoni (Sinden Remix)

The track ‘Tenderoni’ has remixes and is catching up, but, still not nearly as many as their dance-party pleaser, ‘Fancy Footwork’, which got re-works by Guns’N'Bombs, Surkin, d.i.m. and more. There are many different ways to get yr footwerk fancy:

MP3: Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Guns’N'Bombs Remix)

MP3: Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Surkin Rogue Teens Remix)

MP3: Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (d.i.m. Remix)

And for good measure (cuz we we were long overdue on a Chromeo post!), a Bloc Party remix of ‘Needy Girl’, the single from ‘She’s in Control’. I adore this remix!

MP3: Chromeo - Needy Girl (Bloc Party Remix)

Now everything Chromeo does is brilliant and we highly recommend the albums, ‘Fancy Footwork’ and ‘She’s in Control’ from Amazon. Additional sources to buy (and sample) are found on Chromeo’s MySpace or their official site.

Ohhh! And don’t forget Chromeo plays Hollywood tonight at Cinespace, and again on Thursday at the EchoPlex in Echo Park with a San Diego date inbetween. Then they’re off to Europe! Check the MySpace for tour dates and locations.

SLEAZEMORE - Dyslexic Disco Vol. 2

(RCHRD OH?! of Bigstereo.net posted this yesterday, but I gotta get up on this too!)

San Francisco’s golden child, my friend & one of my favorite dj’s, SLEAZEMORE drops a new mix for all your grimey asses. The Florida native relocated to San Francisco a little over a year ago & quickly became a staple in the disco/dance scene which is hard to do in a city like SF which is literally littered with hungry, talented & established djs. He’s performed along side the Presets, Phones, Matthew Dear, Junior Sanchez, & Paparazzi (to name a few) & will be throwing a dope set to warm everyone up for the Ed Banger tour on March 24th at the Mezzanine.

Tracklist

Sleazemore - “Dyslexic Disco Vol. 2″ (via Ravegression)

Sleazmore has his own event called Lights Down Low which is every 2nd & Fourth Friday of the month at Club 222. Light Down Low is notorious for bringing out hard hitting acts like Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Acid Girls, Julian S Process of Pinkskull, Blake Miller & Guns ‘N’ Bombs who are playing with Sleazemore @ Club Loaded this friday. Get on the team.

MAD REPEATERZ: Guns ‘N’ Bombs - Nothing Is Getting Us Anywhere (Acid Girls remix)

DANCE SONG OF THE YEAR!

This another installment of Mad Repeaterz. I didn’t think I’d be doing another one so soon after the Para One - Midnight Swim (Surkin Remix) but, this song landed in my lap & totally gave the other one the boot.

Two of my fave artists right now, both of whom I’ve seen perform live in the past month (big ups to Sleazemore for bringing out the heat) are finally together on one track. The Acid Girls remixed Guns n Bombs‘ (who, if you’ve been paying attention, we can’t get enough of) hit single ‘Nothing is Getting Us Anywhere’ (Kitsune). & If you’ve heard the Acid Girls’ remix work before for you know that shit is top notch.

MP3: Guns ‘N’ Bombs - Nothing Is getting Us Anywhere (Acid Girls remix) [recommended]

Bonus!!

MP3: Acid Girls - Bump, Pump & Spank to Switch On Justice (Spank Rock, Switch, Justice & Technotronic)

Acid Girls & Guns ‘n’ Bombs both reside in Southern California and play nothing but the best gentleman’s techno. If you have a chance check them out. Word on the streets is a mini west coast tour is in the works. Do yourself a favor & keep your eyes peeled.
