We were ranting and raving about how amazing the electro of French brothers, Spitzer, are just two months ago, and now the big boys have noticed! Spitzer have upcoming remix releases for Swedish disco-house-y indie-popper Sally Shipiro and this—a remix for Aussie pop-icon Kylie Minogue, for her ‘In My Arms’ single released next month, cut from the recently released album, ‘X’.
The Canadian duo MSTRKRFT gave the electro world a shock with their last album ‘The Looks‘ which was filled to the brim with hits. Fans have been fiending for something new from their camp ever since. Word on the e-street is that the pair is in currently in the studio working on their follow up album. We eagerly await.
Fortunately MSTRKRFT’s JFK has been blessed the blogoshpere’s ears with two dancefloor ready remixes; one of UK based indie rockers Bloc Party and another of Swedish electro knockers Mr. Miyagi.
If you don’t have MSTRKRFT’s full length ‘The Looks’ don’t admit it, just go get yourself a copy here and pretend you got it the day it came out.
Bloc Party is on myspace of course. Mr. Miyagi is currently touring Sweden, check them out if you are able. If you can’t make it be sure to download their Super Mega Laser Mix.
Know who’s the fucking man? FELIX CARTAL, all caps, is the fucking man.
Cartal is a child of France but his affinity for his second home, Canada is strong. In his newest work, Felix Cartal pays homage to the city where he lived and partied and was undoubtedly inspired. The track is ‘Vancouver’, which bookends his previous track, ‘Montreal Dreams’.
By Sea, Land, and Air, (and Dance Music) We Prosper (Vancover’s new and improved motto).
Our friends at Trash Menagerie have an interview with Felix Cartal where you can pick up ‘Montreal Dreams’ at 96kbps. If you’re thirsty for more info, there’s an earlier interview at Floukids.
Felix’s catalog between his 2006 debut and now is small but immense. The most recent favorite here at Missingtoof, is the B-side to Moving Units recent ‘Crash ‘N’ Burn Victims’ single on So Sweet Records, which we put up a while back.
So what other remixes has Felix laced? Try on MSTRKRFT, Dragonette, and a surprising very (very) favorite remix of Ashlee Simpson. Now, as Felix notes in the aforementioned interview, he does have a thing for female pop vocals, so his Britney Spears remix was an apt follow up.
What to do when you love them all and can’t decide? All or nothing, baby.
Oh man, that’s fresh. Let’s go overkill and pile on the Felix Cartal. Dude should be all caps at all times. This is large. From oldest to newest, let’s indulge further:
Which reminds me, how sick is Scotland’s Hostage? Felix Cartal, in his globetrotting, has recently settled in Scotland and clicked up with his electro-fied kindred spirit. A remix is a beautiful thing.
Party alert for all you NYCer’s out there. This Thursday it’s going down at Death By Audio! Canadian party bringers VNDLSM & Tyler Fedchuk (1/2 Alive) bring a ruckus to town, accompanied by Brooklyn bangers Stab Wounds. If I was in the are I would for sure be in attendance.
Surely you’ve heard all these jams, but hear them again!
This shindig is presented by YOUTH, VIDEODISCO & our friend Chazology of the late great Charlesrequina.com. But a little bird told me that Chazology will be back in full effect soon with a brand new invention. Go and celebrate good beats and the forth-coming re-birth of Chaz.
Chromeo is the duo of fantastically talented best-friends Dave 1 & P-Thugg. They are frequently referenced for their only-half-way-kidding self-description of being, “the only successful Arab and Jewish collaboration since the beginning of time!” Dave is the Jew and Pee is the Arab, but I don’t care about no things but the music!
Chromeo is back in 2007 with their critically-acclaimed sophomore album, ‘Fancy Footwork’. An album that follows “Electrofunk” trend established with their debut album, 2004’s ‘She’s in Control’.
The video above is their first official video from ‘Fancy Footwork’. Directed by Jérémie Rozan & Martial Schmeltz with the Surface To Air agency in Paris, ‘Tenderoni’ is fun and fresh. Surface to Air is also responsible for all the recent Chromeo artwork for the singles and album, not to mention a little video called ‘Never Be Alone‘ by Justice vs Simian.
Take the tune from the video with you. You love it! Or, maybe you’ll like the MSTRKRFT or Sinden remix instead?
The track ‘Tenderoni’ has remixes and is catching up, but, still not nearly as many as their dance-party pleaser, ‘Fancy Footwork’, which got re-works by Guns’N'Bombs, Surkin, d.i.m. and more. There are many different ways to get yr footwerk fancy:
And for good measure (cuz we we were long overdue on a Chromeo post!), a Bloc Party remix of ‘Needy Girl’, the single from ‘She’s in Control’. I adore this remix!
Now everything Chromeo does is brilliant and we highly recommend the albums, ‘Fancy Footwork’ and ‘She’s in Control’ from Amazon. Additional sources to buy (and sample) are found on Chromeo’s MySpace or their official site.
Igor “Iggor” Cavalera, famed ex-drummer (and founding member) of Brazillian Death Metal band Sepultura and his wife/producer Laima Leyton are Mixhell.
Iggor left Sepultura in June of 2006 and took on another life as a Electronic Music DJ and producer. So, can one of the best drummers in the world bang out a electro beat on an MPC? Fuck yes! Get a load of these Mixhell produced MSTRKRFT remixes (96kbps):
Mixhell has been getting around in Europe, opening for the some of the most important names in electronic music, like Daft Punk, Soulwax and Simian Mobile Disco.
We’d first heard of Mixhell from our boys at Stochholm Beat Connection, who have been giving Mixhell a hell of a push and getting some love in return. Here is the stolen goods (oh, what a gulity pleasure!); Enjoy Mixhell’s ‘Electro Banger Ghetto Thrash’ mix.

The Sick Lipstick was a lo-fi, no-fi, noise rock band from Canada. The act was started by Lindsay Gillard & Mark McLean after the demise of their previous band Black Cat#13 which featured Jesse Keeler (pre Death From Above 1979 & MSTRKRFT). The original lineup was baby voiced Lindsay on vocals & Mark on everything else. Later they were joined by Dennis Amos. They released a handful of vinyl only releases on Three One G, Sound Virus, Deleted Art & 5RC but still gathered a pretty large following due to the popularity of Black Cat#13.
I saw them on their tour with An Albatross & xbxrx back in the day & even though An Albatross (who was headlining) didn’t show due to van troubles no one in the crowd was upset because TSL put on a hell of a performance. Too bad the band bit the dust after their 1st and only full length in 2003.
The Sick Lipstick - Thigh Master, I’m Yr Master (Download)
from ‘Sting Sting Sting’
The Sick Lipstick - Sermon From Between His Legs (Download)
from self-titled EP
The Sick Lipstick - Teenage Robots (Download)

Last I checked Lindsay was in a project called Fox The Boombox & making WolfBags. Mark was doing his own project called Marlax & was Dennis in the Creeping Nobodies. You can pick up Sick Lipstick’s ‘Sting Sting Sting’ on cd from amazon.
Finally, it’s Friday. This week fkn’ drrrragged. But, soon… Soon it will be 5 p.m. & for 56 hours I will be free. Free from the shackles of this 9 to 5, free from this cube, free from wrinkle-free twill khaki’s.
Free to do whatever it is my little heart desires. And usually on weekends, my heart desires beer. And beats.
So, it’s time to get drunk. I mean fall down knock out a tooth-punch your friend-spit on you mom, drunk. What better soundtrack to accompany this kind of debauchery than the Canadian Electro/Disco duo, MSTRKRFT.
They have some awesome vids on the Youtube, but none of the vids are too SFW so YT won’t let me embed them. If you’re not at work, or really confident that your work loves you watch the videos:
